A small number of settlers arrived in the area in 1876 and it became a town around 1908 after farmer Jedediah Adair was followed by a more significant population. Initially known as Adairville, after Adair, the town later became Houston and Winder, before attaining its final name after <a href="/wiki/John_A._Widtsoe" title="John A. Widtsoe">John A. Widtsoe</a>, the president of and an agricultural scientist at the <a href="/wiki/University_of_Utah" title="University of Utah">University of Utah</a>. The population declined significantly from 1920 following droughts, and the town emptied in 1936. Most buildings were demolished shortly afterwards. The smooth-billed ani is a mid-sized species, larger on average than the <a href="/wiki/Groove-billed_ani" title="Groove-billed ani">groove-billed ani</a> but smaller than the <a href="/wiki/Greater_ani" title="Greater ani">greater ani</a>. It measures approximately 35 centimetres (14 inches) in overall length. Males weigh around 115 grams (4.1 ounces), while females are lighter at around 95 grams (3.4 ounces). Adults are mainly glossy black, with a long tail, deep ridged black bill and a brown iris. Grand Prismatic Spring was noted by geologists working in the <a href="/wiki/Hayden_Geological_Survey_of_1871" title="Hayden Geological Survey of 1871">Hayden Geological Survey of 1871</a>, and named by them for its striking coloration. Its colors match most of those seen in the <a href="/wiki/Rainbow" title="Rainbow">rainbow</a> dispersion of white light by an optical <a href="/wiki/Prism_(optics)" title="Prism (optics)">prism</a>: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The bright, vivid colors in the spring are the result of <a href="/wiki/Microbial_mat" title="Microbial mat">microbial mats</a> around the edges of the mineral-rich water. The mats produce colors ranging from green to red; the amount of color in the microbial mats depends on the ratio of <a href="/wiki/Chlorophyll" title="Chlorophyll">chlorophyll</a> to <a href="/wiki/Carotenoid" title="Carotenoid">carotenoids</a> and on the temperature gradient in the runoff. In the summer, the mats tend to be orange and red, whereas in the winter the mats are usually dark green. The deep blue color of the water in the center of the pool results from the <a href="/wiki/Color_of_water" title="Color of water">intrinsic blue color of water</a>. The effect is strongest in the center of the spring, because of its sterility and depth. It has a deep and compressed body with a small mouth that is equipped with small bristle-like teeth. The background colour of adults is brownish blue with each scale having a blue margin creating the impression that it is predominantly blue. There is an uneven, yellow bar close to the centre of the flanks with dark blue, vertically elongated spots towards the head. The species is occasionally collected for the aquarium trade and has also been recorded on sale as food in fish markets. It is most commonly found among dry stony areas, especially around dry creek lines, although it is also sometimes encountered in grass and shrublands. The cinnamon quail-thrush has a body length of 20 centimetres (7.9&#160;in) and a mass of up to 50 grams (1.8&#160;oz) when fully grown. Male birds are characterised by a white eyebrow, black face and a broad white streak down the sides of a black throat. The upperparts of their body are plain cinnamon-rufous with buff-white patches on the upper breast and a broad black band below. The outer tail feathers are black with white tips. The female has similar features but duller with a buff-white throat and eyebrow.
