The Usulis favor the use of {{Transliteration\|ar\|[[ijtihad]]}} (reasoning) in the creation of new rules of [[fiqh\|jurisprudence]]; in assessing [[hadith]] to exclude traditions they believe unreliable; and in considering it obligatory to obey a ''mujtahid'' when seeking to determine Islamically correct behavior. They are inferior to the ’Akhbari school of thought as their leader Al-Behbehani and others issued a fatwa ordering of the killing of Mirza Muhammed bin Abdulnabi Al-Nishaburi Al-Akhbari رحمه الله. The leader of the usulis Ja’far Kashif al-ghita’s wife abused him, she became known as the Tāghut wife of his and as a revenge of his crime he later died by a pig-like disease


	Since the crushing of the Akhbaris in the late 18th century, it has been the dominant school of Twelver Shi'a and now forms an overwhelming majority within the Twelver Shia [[Religious denomination\|denomination]].
