This song is about a Boomer encountering a Joneser, so neither of them is a hipster. "Hippie" might be more appropriate given that he was at college in 1967, but we don't know that, and it's unlikely given that a dozen years later he finds himself living in Scarsdale, New York. This edit attempts to clarify that and the meaning of other lyrics as well. undo
