Greetings,
I don't know how your mediation page works, so I will simply start writing and give you what information I have. Firstly, I am the copyright owner of John Steinbeck's works and control those literary properties for domestic use. Nancy Steinbeck receives income from a few of those properties as the ex-wife of John Steinbeck's late son, John IV, but has sadly refused to work with the family and is presently under a court order not to interfere with the delivery of content to the world under any circumstances and is presently in criminal contempt for having delivered false information about the Steinbeck family. By her entries on John Steinbeck IV's Wikipedia page, she has interfered with John IV's daughter's Right of Publicity under California law, Civil Code 3344.1. She is clearly angry that she has been caught. But she has continued to enter false information and that information has been corrected whenever possible. The legal department at Wikipedia in Florida has a copy of the judgement and the law trumps a cabal.

On the other hand, we work diligently to try to maintain the integrity of the pages that appear anywhere, not just on Wikipedia. Of course anyone is welcome to put up pertinent information about John Steinbeck. We welcome the interest and the history by such creative individuals. Of course that means anyone not bound by a court order. But we are also careful to work to maintain the integrity of such sites. Interestingly enough, whoever is so upset about the removal of some musicans has failed to do enough research to even acknowledge that there is a 15,000 sq. ft. museum dedicated to John Steinbeck and his works. The musicians that this person keeps replacing on the 'East Of Eden" page are infringing upon certain copyrights, trademarks and right of publicity laws. If Bruce Springsteen and Dave Brubeck know enough to contact the estate to license music rights then these other "barely known musicians" need to do the same. Our attorneys are contacting those musicians now, to open a dialogue.

In the meantime, we are delighted that people want to work on the pages and create Wikipedia information for the research public. All we ask is that the information be correct, legal and pertinent to the page. By the way, Ron Howard has dropped out of the directing job to do another project, the IMDB page will likely not be updated until we hire a new director for the film. I can't tell you who we are in talks with, but I can tell you that the better source for that update is Variety's "The Vault".

When I make changes to these pages, they are for specific reasons. I frankly don't have time to keep up with everything that anyone writes about John Steinbeck and his works. I stumbled upon these pages while we were monitering Nancy Steinbeck's infringements. Please respect our wishes and keep the pages clean. Thank you.

Should you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to contact Brad Patrick, the CEO of Wikipedia.

Greetings, I don't know how your mediation page works, so I will simply start writing and give you what information I have. Where is the issue taking place?
Most discussion has taken place on Catbird222's talk page in regards to the East of Eden article. Some comments are on the Talk:East of Eden page.
Who's involved?
Catbird222 and bikeable
What's going on?
The East of Eden page has recently had some content deleted under questionable pretense, notably this edit and this edit. Catbird222 claims to own the copyright to East of Eden, and uses this as justification for removing songs inspired by the book from the "Popular culture" section of the article, citing "licensing issues".
Additionally, Catbird222 says that Ron Howard has removed himself from the upcoming East of Eden movie, but continually refuses to provide evidence of this, suggesting instead that I call Howard's agent.
What would you like to change about that?
  • Retain the cultural references to East of Eden in the article (the Babyshambles song, the Meg & Dia song, and the Anna Nalick song), as they do not violate any East of Eden copyright, and even so would be acceptable under fair use laws.
  • The Ron Howard issue may be true (we have yet to see), but a valid reference must be provided.
  • Feel free to contact Catbird222.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
No need for that. I will be providing a link on Catbird222's talk page to this case page.

Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

Catbird222 constantly vandalizes the John Steinbeck IV site and Nancy Steinbeck site by removing external links and categories, and has recently accused the parties of fraud in a slanderous and libelous manner on the Nancy Steinbeck site. Bikeable questioned the accusation of fraud and reverted to the earlier version, but Cattbird222 immediately changed Bikeable's rv back to her original, spurious post. This person has established a pattern of Internet stalking and tells untruths about the lives of Nancy Steinbeck and John Steinbeck IV. Catbird222 has also twice removed the name of Nancy Steinbeck's daughter, Megan Steinbeck, from the Lew Hunter site. Mr. Hunter now monitors his site to assure that Megan is included in the list of his students. While it may not be possible to address this matter in the present mediation, we would like the mediators to know about this unscrupulous, irresponsible, and vicious behavior.

I can take this case, give me half an hour - an hour to read up on the discussion so far. --Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 07:21, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought this case appears to be close given the discussion comment, although there is no moderator comment which makes me wonder...
I thought I should add that I have just reverted more edits to East of Eden by Catbird222. I left a warning on his talk page, and reminded him about this open mediation. NipokNek 08:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
