==External links==
What about external links like:

* Specific Database Replication Technologies
** [http://www.slony.info/ Slony-I - A replication system for PostgreSQL]
** [http://www.mysql.com/search/?q=database+replication&charset= MySQL Database Replication Links]
{{unsigned|Kurtseifried}}

:I would prefer as few external links as possible. [[WP:NOT|Wikipedia is not a link directory]]. External links sections often get out of hand, especially when one provides such an obvious space for advertising. -- [[User:Intgr|intgr]] 08:28, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

==Active/active replication POV/advert==
I have tagged the "Active/active replication" section with {{tl|advert}}, since it currently claims that WANdisco has exclusively invented non-master/slave replication, and seems to imply that theirs is the only possible/existing approach, and that it has no drawbacks. However, no reliable sources supporting its uniqueness are presented, and I fail to take this for granted. Claiming that it's a "new mathematical theory" further trips my buzzword meter.

This is coupled with the fact that there's also a [[Wandisco]] article with these same claims, which was tagged advert for a second, but subsequently had the tag removed by an anonymous user ([http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wandisco&diff=93771283&oldid=93423435 diff]).

Some factual information about their implementation is certainly needed to make this entry encyclopedic. Reflecting the advantages/disadvantages would be a start. I posted a comment to a talk page and forgot to sign it. I also was not logged in. So should I: 1) Post again from that IP address attributing the comment to my account; 2) Let it be; or 3) Something else? Thanks. --[[User:Silvaran|Silvaran]] 01:25, 22 June 2006 (UTC) (<-- Hah! I remembered.)

== Unecessary list? ==
(I have asked about this before, but didn't get a clear answer)
Is there any Wikipedia policy which would clear up the issue of the article [[Drina]], specifically whether it is okay to list all of the towns a river passes through, and whether it counts as notable? [[User:Mo-Al|Mo-Al]] 18:37, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

:In my opinion, the article seems to be substantial enough to remain as it is: the listing is a little on the tedious side, perhaps, but is a useful reference to anyone wishing to know which towns do pass through it. The only guide I can offer you at the moment is [[Thames]] and [[Seine]]. == My Wiki article "reads like an advertisement" ==

I just submitted an article ([[Murphy Rebel]] Aircraft) for the Wikipedia. I tried to keep it as straight forward and factual as I could - but the page has a "header in a block" that says "this article reads like an advertisement"
I have followed many pages trying to find how to reword it so that it is "acceptable" to Wiki - but at the end of the day (2 AM in the morning actually) I can't see how to "de-advertise" a factual article about a kit built aircraft ?!?

I didn't want to write a wafly article that went on & on about personal junk - just a straight forward / useful information one

ALSO (and please be aware , that I am NO computer junkie ) I cannot figure out HOW to "Tag" my photo (to go with the article) - so that it will be accepted to appear WITH the article :o(
Again- I followed many link pages - but nothing makes sense to me ... (and this IS my first ever attempt to contribute an article too)

I found my photot on the "untagged photos " page (VH-REB at Ayers Rock airport) - but I just can't figure out HOW to "tag" it

Thanks

::Hi Rick. My suggestion is to let Wikipedia process your article a bit. Looking it over, I think the problem is less that it reads like an ad as that it needs "wikification." I'll change the template (now you'll see a different box); let's see what getting some other eyes on it will accomplish. Don't worry too much about it. <b><span style="color: #f33">&middot;[[User talk:Rodii|<span style="color: #669">&nbsp;rodii&nbsp;</span>]]&middot;</span></b> 22:59, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

:I agree, I don't think the article necessarily reads like an advertisement. It's just a standard new short article - thanks for contributing! == Jim Fitzpatrick Roller Derby ==

Hi, I was wondering why some external links were deleted from the site? I think one may have seemed redundant, but not all of them.
One was a book publisher, one was a Japanese site (Roller Game with video and photos)and one was an American Roller Derby site (ARDL Bay City Bombers also with video, mention and photos)two were Yahoo! Groups sites: Ann Calvello and Joan Weston. Going to those sites also verifies the info is correct and not made up.

I try to read the info thinking someone was vandalizing the site, but then read into it. Please let me know if any or all the info can be readded.
Thanks,
Jim {{unsigned|64.121.32.42}}
*Information that is used to write the article should be in a "references" section rather than the external links. However, I doubt Yahoo groups are considered [[WP:RS|reliable sources]]. Remember that Wikipedia isn't about linking as much sites as possible. The external links should offer more detailed information about the subject that couldn't be included in the article and generally video/picture sites aren't the type of links usually looked for. Perhaps [[WP:EL|Wikipedia:External links]] will provide you with the info you need? - [[User:MacGyverMagic|Mgm]]|[[User talk:MacGyverMagic|(talk)]] 07:24, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
*I removed the non-links from the "External links" section. In other words, the only things I removed were those that weren't actual links. I wouldn't even have looked twice if they had been links to an external site, but they weren't. Personally, I agree with Mgm that Yahoo groups aren't really reliable sources but if they had been linked I wouldn't have removed them. I hope that answers your question. I work for a school system that has recently blocked access to Wikipedia because many of our students were misusing your site and deliberatly making incorrect and inappropriate edits of the articles on your website. I was told that you have an alternate site with your content, but without the ability to edit the content. Is this true? If so, what is the site?

== upload help ==

Can someone please upload this image file for me:

[[User:82.131.184.53|82.131.184.53]] 12:37, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

p.s. I asked this question at the reference desk but only got rude and unhelpful replies.

:Here's another rude and unhelpful reply. That image has no place on Wikipedia, and you need to watch out for [[WP:POINT|disrupting Wikipedia to make a point]]. As you no doubt know, the issue of 9/11 conspiracies is causing a big ruckus right now, and I don't think anyone should be helping someone who can't be bothered to identify himself to stir the shit even more. If it's so important for you to upload that image, get an account, log in, and do it yourself. Then I think your next move would be to put it on people's talk pages and get banned. <b><span style="color: #f33">&middot;[[User talk:Rodii|<span style="color: #669">&nbsp;rodii&nbsp;</span>]]&middot;</span></b> 15:17, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:: Why would I put an image on someone '''else''' 's talk page? What is "stirring up shit", etc. Is this reply in good faith? I'd only put the image one my own (IP's) talk page, signing it. You can already see my contributions, etc, and I sign my posts. I don't see why I should be excluded from discussing with people, and I certainly don't wish to vandalize anyone's talk page. :( I read "disrupting wikipedia to make a point", but I think you might think I intend to vandalize, but this is not the case. Could you please help me by uploading the picture I linked? Thank you. [[User:82.131.184.53|82.131.184.53]] 15:54, 23 June 2006 (UTC).

:::So when you say you'd like to be able to inline it on talk pages, plural, does that mean you have more than one? And you're really that concenred about getting it on to the talk page of an anonymous IP address, even though you've never edited either the user or talk page in any way? That IP address is persistent enough for you to want to add the image to ''that'' talk page, but you're unwilling to get an actual account? And how should your upload helpers know how to tag it, and why should they bear the responsibility for copyright issues instead of you? And are we supposed to believe that you can't create an account because you '''need help thinking of a username'''? I see lots of questions at the refdesk that you never gave saisfactory answers to. Sorry, the whole thing smells bad to me. But it doesn't matter, I see no reason to help you upload such a useless image to Wikipedia. Get an account, and you can do it yourself. <b><span style="color: #f33">&middot;[[User talk:Rodii|<span style="color: #669">&nbsp;rodii&nbsp;</span>]]&middot;</span></b> 16:47, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I wonder if this person understands the concept of an open source encyclopedia - even the basics, what is your responsibility, what's not. Getting a user account, basic ettiquette (that how you spell it?) and simple polity. Is this Willy on Wheels in disguise, just wasting our time instead of moving pages (for a change)? I wonder, if I were an admin, I might consider banning you for simply being annoying - and rude and unhelpful, just like me. Alright, here's a username, you just need to email me, and I'll give you it. I'll tell you, it will work - if it doesn't, its not wikipedia's fault. Click on my signiature, then "email this user" at the right hand side. [[User:Martianlostinspace|martianlostinspace]] 20:41, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

== Importing photographs into an article ==

Hello, all. I'm a budding contributor to Wikipedia. Please can you tell me, in idiots' language (i.e., keep it laughably simple) how I can import photographs (they are copyright-cleared) into an article. Please could you answer these questions SPECIFICALLY and in order:
* Is there a Wikipedia link that will give me procedure on importing?
* What governs the size of the picture you're importing? (how do you control the size)
* When Wikipedia prints photographs from a private source, do they become Wiki's copyright or does the source retain copyright?
* How may we credit the photographer?
* How do you obtain copyright permissions for copyrighted photographs?
I thank you. [[User:FClef|FClef]] 13:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:''* Is there a Wikipedia link that will give me procedure on importing? ''
::In the toolbox on the left-hand side of the page, click on Upload file.
:''* What governs the size of the picture you're importing? (how do you control the size)''
:: The size of images on pages is determined ''per page''. Upload the file with its original resolution (don't shrink it). You can scale the image down on the article you wish to insert it in.
:''* When Wikipedia uses photographs from a private source, do they become Wiki's copyright or does the source retain copyright?''
::The source/owner retains all copyrights (unless it's public domain) and licences the media for use on Wikipedia (and related projects).
:''* How may we credit the photographer?''
::When you click on Upload file, just put the details of the author/owner in the Summary field as well as the licenses used.
:''* How do you obtain copyright permissions for copyrighted photographs?''
::Due to the fact that Wikipedia is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License, and that articles are freely copied, Wikipedia does not allow the use of copyrighted images unless they meet the fair use rationale.

== Delete or Revert ==

I am relatively new to Wikipedia.

I found this article: [[Gubi_Sandhu]]

I cannot see how this belongs on Wikipedia. I am not sure if this is vandalism or bad writing.

It appears to me that an earlier version was better, and more wiki-like.

Could someone clear things up?

== Writing an article ==

I followed the instructions on writing an article.I completed the edit/summary.
The article was entitled [[Zbark]]. The reason for this is that it is a term used in Wikipedia when you search for Flat Fee.
Here is the article:
'''Zbark''': An entirely new Real Estate Brokerage business model that replaces the outdated listing commissions of the 20th Century. The model helps consumers that are buying and/or selling real estate. It puts the consumer in control of the buying/selling process rather than a real estate agent and/or broker. It is a fee based system rather than a commission system.

Here is where the term Zbark is quoted in Wikipedia:
Real Estate

A way that homeowners can list their property on a local MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and www.Realtor.com for one fee. This is a radical departure from the listing commission that is usually associated with a homeowner selling their property. The homeowner may or may not choose to pay a Buyer's Agent (a real estate agent) whom brings the homeowner a contract. Most Flat Fee Brokers feel that it helps to sell the property faster if the homeowner agrees to compensate the Buyer's Agent. Federal and State Law state all Real Estate commissions are negotiable. The name Zbark is a synonym for Flat Fee with regards to Real Estate. It is defined as: An entirely new Real Estate Brokerage business model that replaces the outdated listing fees of the 20th Century. The model helps consumers that are buying and/or selling real estate. It puts the consumer in control of the buying/selling process rather than a real estate agent and/or broker. It is a fee based system rather that a commission system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Michael Thomas

== wikilinks in bold format? ==

Hi, should wikilinks of characters' or people be in bold? For example, should a wikilink for Mr. George Jones be in bold? I read the Manual of Style, but I didn't find anything relating to fictional characters. An annonymous user bolded the names at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings_of_the_Pride_Lands]

If you need any more info or another example, let me know and I'll try to help.

:No. In fact, bold should be used very sparingly outside headings and the bolded subject of the article in the lead paragraph. <b><span style="color: #f33">&middot;[[User talk:Rodii|<span style="color: #669">&nbsp;rodii&nbsp;</span>]]&middot;</span></b> 02:37, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
In fact, headers are bolded automatically if you use the header format. So you should rarely bold anything. Actually, another common use of bold is in table row or column headers. == [[WP:WEB]] and [[Alexa Internet|Alexa rank]] ==

Hi, I was working through some of the [[WP:AFD|articles for deletion]] and was looking at some of the articles promoting web sites. They often evidently fail [[WP:WEB]] but sometimes in the vote, alexa traffic rankings are used as implications of notability. If a website cannot be differentiated by WP:WEB or other means, what kind of traffic ranking would we consider notable? Do we have to take into account the whole "Alexa toolbar users only" thing? [[User:Anand Karia|Anand]] 22:36, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
:WP:WEB is only a guideline. People are free to use it as a guideline to establish notability, but can use whatever criteria they choose if they feel its notable enough for some other reason. They have to be prepared to defend their reason, and a high traffic rank is usually a pretty easily defendable thing. If it shows in the top 100,000 websites (Which is what Alexa will show in graphs) you're probably not going to get an article that easily deleted unless there are other problems with it (OR, blatant advertisting, etc) at which point many people will call for clean-up rather than delete. --[[User:Crossmr|Crossmr]] 02:12, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
*If you know of another way to reliably measure the amount of unqique visitors to a site, you're welcome to use that too. Alexa ranks may not be accurate when they are about sites not often visited by non-Alexa users, but with ranks over 2 or 3 million, it's usually pretty clear it hasn't got much visitors no matter how you measure it. - [[User:MacGyverMagic|Mgm]]|[[User talk:MacGyverMagic|(talk)]] 07:14, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

== Japanese names ==

--[[User:Summonmaster13|Summonmaster13]] 01:00 25 June 2006 (UTC)
:The easiest way is if you can find it online, just copy and paste it. Otherwise, you'll need to use an [[IME]]. For Windows, you can download it someplace on the microsoft site, just search for Japanese IME. You'll also need asian character support installed. Look in control panel -> regional settings. That's just to see them at all, if you can see them, you have that part. If you're using Mac, OSX comes with built in support for writing Japanese I believe, you'd have to search the help to find out how to use it. Once IME is installed, it's a bit nonintuitive - you have to set it to writing in japanese, and there's a few settings, that I've never been able to read as I can't read Japanese, so I just click them til it works. When typing, every syllable you write will then convert into kana. If you want kanji, hit space while the right part is underlined (which it does as you type). -[[User:Goldom|Goldom]] [[User_talk:Goldom|‽‽‽]] [[Special:Contributions/Goldom|⁂]] 01:29, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
::If you are unsure about what Japanese characters to use, you can ask at [[Wikipedia:Japan-related topics notice board]] as well. To create a new category just include <code><nowiki>[[category:new category]]</nowiki></code> on a page you want in the new category. This will show up as a red category link, and then you can click this and add at least <code><nowiki>[[category:parent of new category]]</nowiki></code> to the category (to link it in to the category structure). There are a LOT of categories, so you might want to look around and make sure the category you're creating doesn't already exist. To be more precise, in the published decision at (note the following citation format I use, which may help you with your question; I am a practicing attorney in New York, and this is how the published decision I am referring to would be cited in legal papers) <u>Penguin Books U.S.A., Inc. v. Thanks [[User:Mahahahaneapneap|Mahahahaneapneap]] 11:50, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

:Your file is just an SVG wrapper with a link to the original PNG image. If you think about it, that makes sense--there's no way Inkscape could look at the PNG bitmap and figure out how to redraw it in the vector format SVG uses. So you didn't really redo the Muse logo as SVG, you just created an SVG file that consists mainly of a pointer to the original image. I recently created an article, but it was labled as a copywright infringement, because I copied it from another website. I don't get what's wrong with that. Doesn't Wikipedia use the GFDL liscense?
:GFDL means all information in wikipedia are published using GFDL only. However, information from other sources are licensed according to their copyright policy. I have a nice big welcome message from an Admin on my User:Talk page. I'd like to move it to a subpage of my User:Talk but I want to do it the right way, including the edit history of the welcome message?

Can you please tell us why this article was removed, and/or restore it?
In addition to being the founder of our organization, Zak Martin is a leading New Age figure, author and antiwar activist. Please advise.

I've had a look and it seems that a different editor disagreed with it being there. You have two (well three) options - (1) edit it back in, (2) discuss it on the talk page for that entry or (3) ask the user who removed it on their userpage the reasons behind their removal. I would recommend (2) & (3) first. The editor who removed your entry was Zora http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Zora and gave the reason "(Those are embroidered decorative tapes, not bric-a-brac)". You can see this for yourself by clicking on the button labeled "history" on the actual entrypage.

Currently, material in the various "devil" articles (especially [[satan]] and [[devil]]) is not categorized coherently. For example, there's a long etymology of "devil" on the "satan" page, and that should appear (only) on the "devil" page.

I've proposed a restructure on the [[talk:satan]] page, but I get the feeling that moving big chunks of text around is something that I should do only with some sort of go-ahead.

A couple of weeks ago someone (not me) wrote an article on Valleyschwag.com, a new site that, for $14.95/month, sends out Silicon Valley swag (t-shirts, stickers, etc). Someone on the discussion page asked for relevance and I replied. I was on vacation, and now that I'm back, it seems the page has disappeared - the search box brings up no results. Gentlemen,

Greetings of peace!
I am on the process of constructing my website about jewelry. I need data to fill-in my website and I was informed that I can make use of your unlimited articles. I wish to know if I would be allowed without any charge to copy articles such as diamonds, rings, etc. and post them on my website for the purpose of providing information to my prospect clients and customers who are searching relevant information about my product.
Thank you and please keep me posted on this regard. More power!

:Absolutely. Although there's a catch - please see [[Wikipedia:Copyrights]] (the catch is you have to let anyone else make unlimited use of "your" articles as well and acknowledge the authors of the original Wikipedia articles). == SVG logos ==
Can someone tell me, with certainty, whether or not logos in SVG is against fairuse? [[User:9cds]] has said it is against fairuse, and speedy deleted several images I uploaded (which were fairuse, unless SVG IS against it) '''but''', nonetheless, many '''very''' obvious examples of SVG fairuse logos exist e.g.: [[Microsoft]]. I am also very sceptical of this opinion, as I find it odd that no one has made a bot to find SVG images under fairuse. Is it or isn't it against fairuse? (as long as they aren't rendered as high-resolution) - [[User:RedHotHeat|<font color="#f80000">Рэд</font>]][[User talk:RedHotHeat|<font color="#ff8a0d">хот</font>]] 14:09, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
:You're probably better off keeping fair-use logos as [[PNG]] images as these only have a limited resolution. The purpose of [[SVG]] is to produce [[vector graphics]], which can be scaled up (or down) without any loss of quality, unlike [[raster image]] formats like PNG or [[JPEG]]. It is therefore much easier to produce high quality copies of logos produced in SVG, regardless of the resolution at which you originally uploaded it. == How does one comply with the GFDL licence when the source article has been deleted? ==

Wikipedia allows content-reusers to fulfill the attribution requirements of the GFDL by linking back to the original article. What happens if the original article has been, or gets, deleted? Where does that leave the legality of the reuse, since the letter of the GFDL can no longer be complied with?

I am thinking about two situations in particular:
# A user discovers useful content via a mirror, but on checking back here finds the article has been deleted, thus the page history cannot be copied.
# A user mirrors an article and relies on a link back to Wikipedia to fulfill their GFDL obligations. Then at some point in the future the article is deleted. Now, suddenly and without their knowledge, they are no longer in compliance.
[[User:81.174.210.98|81.174.210.98]] 03:19, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

:I don't think the GFDL says anything about "you can fulfill attribution req's by linking back to the original source" - it's your responsibility to fulfill the license, WP does not do that for you. (Disclaimer: I'm not a legal person and really have no idea, but this makes sense to me)--[[User:Commander Keane|Commander Keane]] 11:58, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
::Yes, to fulfill the GFDL, one would have to link to the full source and history. He's not asking Wikipedia to do it, he wants to know how to comply if the article was deleted. I would say first make sure it's not a copyright violation. If it is, Wikipedia shouldn't have had it in the first place, so you shouldn't either. For other articles, I've no idea. - [[User:MacGyverMagic|Mgm]]|[[User talk:MacGyverMagic|(talk)]] 12:23, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

: I think the question is asking whether a site that mirrors Wikipedia is still obeying the terms of the GFDL if the article on Wikipedia is deleted. I think that's a technical issue of mirrors staying in sync with Wikipedia content, but I did a quick check of the GFDL license and it doesn't look like there's any provision saying that derivative works (e.g. Wikipedia mirrors) must stay in sync with the parent work. I think that would fall under the "Verbatim copying" paragraph of the GFDL. [http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html Here's a link to the full text of the GFDL], which may help. --[[User:Elkman|Elkman]] 19:01, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

I am pretty certain that the GFDL contains nothing saying that you have to stay in sync - FSF claim this condition makes the [[dmoz]] licence unfree. As long as the article remains on Wikipedia, one can get a transparent copy and author attributions for any version from the history, via a link. My particular concern is paragraph 4.B., which I now see only applies to modified copies, requiring that at least 5 of the original authors be credited. Since normal users can't see the page history for a deleted article, they can't comply. Could one get away with crediting "Wikipedia contributors" as per the citation style? If not, shouldn't one be able to access a list of contributors to a deleted article for this purpose? [[User:81.174.208.63|81.174.208.63]] 00:08, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

:This comes back to my original thoughts - relying on Wikipedia to fulfil your obligations. I think ideally (legally?) you should record the authors and original text at the time that you copy it. Then make the record you kept available to your users, thereby fulfilling the GFDL. --[[User:Commander Keane|Commander Keane]] 19:23, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the responses. First of all, where is this Printable Version link located? Secondly, even when obtaining this printable version (I got there using Schzmo's link), the external links still show up in the Print Preview. Maybe it is a computer setting, I'm not sure. But, the print version definitely looks nothing like it does on the explorer view.

== Fray or Friar?? ==

To whom it may concern: while doing some editing of the [[Aztec]] related articles within Wikipedia, I was puzzled by the term "Fray", which appeared as something of a title or descriptive term in front of several names. I have since learned that "Fray" is a Spanish term meaning "Friar". I am wondering therefore if we should not be using "Friar" instead of "Fray" in, for example, this article on [[Fray Juan de Torquemada]]. I would suggest "yes" since (a) this is the English Wikipedia and (b) the term "Friar" is understood by more average readers than is "Fray".

Thoughts anyone?? [[User:Madman2001|Madman]] 17:31, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

::I recently finished the translation of an article about a Spanish bishop and dealt with this same issue. To answer the meta-question of the appropriate location for this issue, I'd say we're at least close to the right place. The question is one of style rather than of fact, so I don't think the Ref Desks are where we want to go. The [[WP:MOS|Manual of Style]] also attempts to address the correct use of titles and styles; I'm not sure if there should be a title in the article name at all. == Need to remove first image which I replaced with same but different file name. ==

Hi,
Sorry to bother you, but I'm in panic station. I uploaded an image a short while ago - a screenshot of Urban Registry Search results. I then changed the file name but I now see that the same file with two different names is online (I'm very embarrassed). Please guide me on how I can remove the first one. The second, more recent one can stay. The image simply illustrates what users can expect to see when they use such a service. Appreciate your help in this matter.
Also, is it not possible to have the screenshot on the same page as the Urban Registry wiki? Please advise. Thanks in advance. --[[User:Pictowrit|Pictowrit]] 17:39, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

== Changing Skins / Print Problems ==

I hate to be repetitive, but this issue is really bugging me. This message is related to the message I left above about printing. How does one change their Wikipedia skin such that printing a page like >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virginia_counties >> results in a printed page that does NOT show all the external links (the entire path printed out). If you look at the printable version of that page, each external link is shown in its full path form (at least, that's the way it looks AND prints for ME). Some users don't seem to have this problem, and others do. what gives? thanks..

:It appears to be located in the section called '''Biran and Yenke'''. If you edit that section you will find the full size image and a 100 pixel version at the bottom of the section. [[User:Road Wizard|Road Wizard]] 21:25, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

== Ignoring Zelda ==

Is there a problem with your response?
I could use a "yes we will see to that" or a "Oh I see what you mean".
This is directed towards you who awnser this "stuff". ~~ZELDA MASTER~~

:See above. Also, please note at the top of the page it does say ''please be patient!''. If you want to contribute to the articles yourself, take a look at the [[WP:I|introduction]]. ::Doing a quick search on this page for the word "patient", I can only find it once (in your comment above). However, it does appear at the top of the Reference desks. As we don't appear to have one, should we add a "please be patient" message here? [[User:Road Wizard|Road Wizard]] 22:16, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

:Good point- I assumed the intro text was the same for both pages! I think that would be a good idea, though. Sorry just letting you KNOW!
I get your point now.
I did not know you could just not change those out every now and then.

==Templates on my user page==
I need to get the two templates on my [[User:Robertvan1|user page]] on separate lines, with the VandalProof one below the other. If someone could show me how to do this or do it I would be grateful. --[[User:Robertvan1|robertvan1]] 22:22, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

CORBA

What about open standards like FT CORBA from OMG? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.72.96.178 (talk)

What about external links like:

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurtseifried (talkcontribs)

I would prefer as few external links as possible. Wikipedia is not a link directory. External links sections often get out of hand, especially when one provides such an obvious space for advertising. -- intgr 08:28, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Active/active replication POV/advert

I have tagged the "Active/active replication" section with {{advert}}, since it currently claims that WANdisco has exclusively invented non-master/slave replication, and seems to imply that theirs is the only possible/existing approach, and that it has no drawbacks. However, no reliable sources supporting its uniqueness are presented, and I fail to take this for granted. Claiming that it's a "new mathematical theory" further trips my buzzword meter.

This is coupled with the fact that there's also a Wandisco article with these same claims, which was tagged advert for a second, but subsequently had the tag removed by an anonymous user (diff).

Some factual information about their implementation is certainly needed to make this entry encyclopedic. Reflecting the advantages/disadvantages would be a start. The obvious question arises that how they resolve conflicting updates (e.g., things that would otherwise cause lock waits or deadlocks). -- intgr 10:24, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
