FC Magaroeli is a Georgian football club from Chiatura, which competes in Liga 3, the third tier of Georgian football system.

The team has twice participated in the top division.

History

Formed in 1936, Chiatura won the Georgian championship in 1975, and also clinched the domestic Cup title in 1978 and 1979. The club spent four seasons in the Soviet Second league.[1]

In 1992/93 season the club finished as runners-up in Pirveli Liga, which paved the way for the Umaglesi Liga in 1993/94. Magaroeli participated in the top flight also in 1997/98.

In 2007/08 they won the second division with a 23-point margin.[2]

Until 2016 the club competed in Liga 2 where they mostly were involved in relegation battles. After finishing sixth in the regular 2016 season, Magaroeli lost a relegation tie against Meshakhte Tkibuli.

The next year they won the regular season of Liga 3, although failed to move up after a poor performance in the promotion tournament.[3]

In 2018, Chiatura finished in the 12th place of the twenty-team league and along with all other bottom-half clubs were relegated to the newly formed Liga 4.

The next year Georgian top scorer 34 year-old Jaba Dvali joined Chiatura.[4]

In 2020 the club finished in the second place. Even though this result fell short of the promotion, some changes of the league format announced in January 2021 by GFF awarded Magaroeli a slot in Liga 3 for the upcoming season.
