Britney Spears' fifth studio album is still being recorded and is set to be released in late summer or fall 2007.[10] Spears herself confirmed on her official site, that she's working hard to release the new album sometime later this year.[11]
An anonymous insider has accused Jive records of not knowing how to market the album, claiming that Spears has "lost her core fan base of teen girls" because of widely reported incidents in her personal life, and asserting that Jive has not yet picked a producer for the album. Jive has countered by issuing a statement saying that it "is not worried about marketing the album", and that in fact it is "looking forward to the release" in the second half of 2007, stating that it does not comment on its artists' personal lives.[10]
MTV has confirmed that rapper T-Pain has been asked to produce a few songs for the new album[9] and that Sean Garrett has finished three tracks.[4] Jonathan Rotem, a well-known R&B producer, is working in the studio with Spears.[1][2] His record label's official site mentioned that he is working on a few songs for Spears' new album, two of which are entitled Everybody and Who Can She Trust.[citation needed] Also Sean Garrett is currently working on the album.[12] Rolling Stone has confirmed that Britney is also working with Nate Hills on her upcoming new album.[citation needed]
Britney has twice been to the Palms Casino recording studio in Las Vegas to work with producer Dr. Luke on the album: Once in November 2006 to mix some tracks and once in February 2007 to record some further tracks.[7][8]
In November 2006, Pharrell Williams announced to People Magazine that he is producing tracks in New York with Britney.[5] Access Hollywood has reported that Britney is in the studio with Scott Storch.[citation needed] Kara DioGuardi has confirmed on her official website, that she's currently working with Britney.[13] Producer Patrick J. Que Smith has confirmed that he just finished two tracks with Britney for her new album in the studio. [14]
In December 2006, Sean Garrett talked about Britney's upcoming album saying that it would be "incredible". He defined the seven tracks that they've done as "exciting, aggressive, and fun". He added that they were "definitely getting back to the basics and trying to make the world dance and sing to her beat".[12]
Spears' manager, Larry Rudolph, estimated in an interview with USA Today that the first single would be put out near the end of summer 2007 and the album would be released in the fall; he also added that half of the album is completed.[15]
On January a video circulated of Britney listening to two new demos from her album in her car. Currently the video is viewable at x17online.com.[16]
In February 2007, producer Ne-Yo said that Britney's record company had told him right from the start that "we don't need no songs about Kevin". He stated that the songs that he is writing will be "songs about all the controversy, then, you know, aside from all that, they'll be just regular quality songs. Songs about love, songs about hate, songs about whatever."[6]
In March 2007, on MuchMusic, Akon expressed interest in working with Britney on her new album.[citation needed]
Also in March, highly-praised music producer Timbaland, who produced huge hits for Nelly Furtado, Spears' ex Justin Timberlake, The Pussycat Dolls, and Omarion in 2006, stated that he wanted to work with Spears on her album once she was out of rehab. He also mentioned that when he asked Timberlake, whom he has cited as his "best friend", if he was okay with the idea, he approved and even said he would work with Britney as well, as long as she was "serious".[17]
In April, Sean Garrett told PEOPLE magazine, "I'm working with Britney. It's really coming together right now. I know she'll do exceptionally well now that she's out of rehab. Her new album is like Toxic times 10. It's going to be a lot of fun and it's really exciting. We did a lot of great work before her break. Britney is a superstar. She definitely knows how to handle herself, but it's tough sometimes. The pressure sometimes gets to you, but I think she has done such a great job keeping her composure under the circumstances."[18]
