Hazel Keech, born 28 February 1987 in London, England as Hazel Dawn Keech (Template:Lang-hi),[1] is an Indian film actress and model. She has appeared in the popular Tamil film, Billa as well as a Suzuki advert.[2] Hazel Keech's notable performances includes her dancing in the Frankfinn Music remix item number, Kahin Pe Nigahaen, got her noticed.[3]
Early life and career
Hazel Keech was born in Essex, north-east London, England in 1987 to an English father and an Indian mother from Mauritius.[4][5] She attended Beal High School in Redbridge for her secondary education.[6]
Hazel first started performing from the age of three. During her early years, she enrolled in both stage schools and Indian dance academies where she learnt various forms of dance, both Indian classical and western contemporary, along with acting and singing.[7] Working professionally from the age of 13, she performed in school musicals as well as amateur plays and continued with the arts through High School. Hazel became involved in television, film and stage very quickly. She was part of the Harry Potter film series, playing an extra role as the friend of protagonist Harry Potter in the second, third and fourth installments,[8] while she also danced in the popular British programme "Miss Marple" following which she was seen in a BBC documentary show "Call The Shots" where they watched her working in Hindi films.[9] She joined the team of the Bollywood musical Bombay Dreams for their London promotional tour in 2002 and sang in the choir of the west-end musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat the following year.[10]
At 18, while holidaying in Mumbai, she received work offers and decided to stay back and pursue a modelling and acting career in India. It was at this time that the agency Hazel signed with decided to change her name to Rose Dawn.[11] Hazel then appeared in the popular music video "Kahin Pe Nigahen" as well as many popular TV commercials. [12] Hazel's first break in films came in 2007 while under the name Rose Dawn, in the Tamil film Billa a remake of the classic film Don, where she performed an item number, originally played by Helen, in the song "Sei Ethavathu". These two big song and dance numbers made Hazel a household name. [13] It was after the popularity of Billa that Hazel parted ways with her modeling agency and decided to drop the name 'Rose Dawn' and go by her real name 'Hazel Keech' which caused some confusion in the press, film and advertising world. In 2009 Hazel rejoined the theater and performed in various plays while continuing with well known TV commercials such as Vivel by ITC, & Sprite 'University of Freshology' .In 2011, she played the antagonist narrator in the Hindi film Bodyguard produced by Atul Agnihotri and directed by Siddique opposite Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Hazel's performance in the film propelled her into the limelight of Bollywood where she has received critical acclaim for her performance following nominations for 2012 Indian Cinema awards functions.
