== Horizontal rules==

Jiang, please do not add horizontal rules to things like the featured article candidate notice. These look quite obnoxious in most browsers and even destroy the layout sometimes. The only thing they should be used for is disambiguation of several meanings on the same page. Otherwise just indent and italicize the notice in question.[[User:Eloquence|—Eloquence]] 01:41, Mar 18, 2004 (UTC)

Please see Talk:American twenty dollar bill. You get this invitation because your name appears in Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (US vs American). Feel free to ignore if you are disinterested. - Optim 05:13, 22 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Mao Zedong / Deng Xiaoping / Zhou Enlai

I think the pronounciation guide for "Mao Zedong", "Zhou Enlai", and "Deng Xiaoping" is helpful because these names are often mispronounced by reporters and others who don't know Pinyin, Wade-Giles, IPA, or other standardized transliteration systems.

Howard Dean

On the Howard Dean page:

Take away the quote. It is not a quote. It is a rant. A quote has to contain something that means something, something that inspires others. Saying that we are going to various states and then yelling is not what should be quoted. I bet you that you wouldn't see this on the Oxford Encyclopedia.

Secondly, the links about a politician should not be about remixes from MTV. I'm sure Howard Dean would not appreciate that.

A-mei

The line "A-Mei was born a tribal princess of the Puyuma clan of aborigines in the mountains of eastern Taiwan" is too similar to a line which appears in the Time Asia article:

"A-Mei was born in the rugged mountains of eastern Taiwan, as a tribal princess of the Puyuma clan of aborigines."

Hakka Hill Song

Hakka Hill Song implies there is only one. Since there are a variety of songs, the plural is better, please revert the change to Hakka Hill Songs. Dylanwhs 16:31, 24 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Thank you so much for correcting the name of Brunei on {{WikiMedia:APEC}}. As you undoubtly know, the names of the following countries are also listed incorrectly. Would you be kind enough to correct those as well, or if you feel it would be easier you could always just change Brunei Darussalam back to just Brunei.

  • Australia - Commonwealth of Australia
  • Indonesia - Republic of Indonesia
  • South Korea - Republic of Korea
  • Philippines - Republic of the Philippines
  • Singapore - Republic of Singapore
  • Thailand - Kingdom of Thailand
  • United States - United States of America
  • Mexico - United Mexican States
  • Chile - Republic of Chile
  • Peru - Republic of Peru
  • Russia - Russian Federation
  • Vietnam - Socialist Republic of Vietnam

(I have intentionally avoided anything vaguely Chinese in this list)

As this is the english Wikipedia I have taken the liberty of using the english translation of each country's name. Just thinking, perhaps Brunei should be listed as "Sultanate of Brunei" (it's name in english). - Gaz 12:15, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)

weird redirect

Yao (ruler) '#REDIRECTYao (tempoary)'

That's the only edit of that article as of now. And it's by you from last year! ("temp"?! Out of curiosity, why did you do that? It's worse to mislead than do nothing. Well, not that many people care much about Yao or do much research on him. --Menchi 10:10, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Delete

Sorry to bother u, but i can't find the User pages for deletion. Could u delete the page User:Yacht/List of United States-related topics (empty links)? that's useless. Thanks! --Yacht (Talk)Q 13:10, Feb 28, 2004 (UTC)

Korean Workers' Party

There may be a few other people besides me who do not read Korean, and who therefore do not have Korean fonts in their computers, and who might like to know that that mysterious row of boxes after the title represents Korean script. I am therefore going to restore "in Korean: etc etc", unless you can give me a good reason why I should not. Adam 11:41, 29 Feb 2004 (UTC)

There is no consistency in the romanisation of Korean names, either at WP or elsewhere. The "academic" system is called the McCune-Reischauer system, but this appears never to be used in the western press. WP has an article called Park Chunghee, for example, which in McCune-Reischauer should be Pak Jung-hi, but also appears as Park Chung Hee, Pak Jung-Hi, Pak Jung Hi and Pak Jung Hee. I have tried to be consistent within the articles that I have edited, but that's all. Adam 12:03, 29 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hey, i'm wondering if a famous website without a specified name can be an article here, naming the article by its URL, like XXXXXX.com. but i know that would look like a spam here.--Yacht 10:09, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)

Regarding a guy who was spamming on your talk page

Now, the guy must not know netiquette, as if you go on the site, you notice porno is on it. It turns out that he leeched offof other people's images, and when they found out, they changed the images into porno. WhisperToMe 03:56, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I've hopefully fixed the problem with the colour photo on the Gough Whitlam page. In future could you talk to me before you revert photos i upload. thanks. PMA 12:12, Mar 3, 2004 (UTC)

With regard to Gorbachev and Yeltsin - we link from Kerensky to Lenin at one end so we should link from Gorbachev to Yeltsin at the other. PMA 12:33, Mar 3, 2004 (UTC)

There seems to be something wrong with Image:Shakers.jpg. Could you re-upload it?—Eloquence 15:25, Mar 3, 2004 (UTC)

Hold it there

Slow down, sir! In an effort to get me to do the "right thing," you're actually creating more problems than you're solving. I doubt very much my entry in the main namespace is going to cause Wiki to collapse into a pile of smoking ruin, and since this is the first time I've attempted to create an archive page at a sub-sub level of my user page, the least you could do is give me a fucking break. I always make sure links are correct and hierarchy is functioning properly before I move on to another task, so go away and give someone else grief for an hour or two.

Yes, I know you've been around Wiki for a while. All the more reason to (a) not bash the newbie, and (b) accept that no one wins a revert war.

Ah, thanks. I've been cutting and pasting them from a template. Not sure why the template fits but these don't. --Johnleemk 10:48, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)

2004 Election page

Hi,

I saw that you cleaned up the U.S. Presidential election, 2004 page by removing the list of Republican Candidates. Would you object to leaving a significantly smaller list (say, Ashby and Wyatt along with the three candidates who got more than 1% in the New Hampshire Primary) on the U.S. Presidential election, 2004 page for consistency and completeness?

Thanks,

Acegikmo1 00:45, Mar 8, 2004 (UTC)

I replied with this message on my talk page:

Well, I'm just wondering what the best list for the page is. I don't think that putting Bush alone is very good, considering that minor Democratic candidates like Lyndon LaRouche are listed. At the same time, the enitre pool of candidates should not be listed. What resolution to this problem would you support?
Acegikmo1 21:17, Mar 8, 2004 (UTC)

Listing the candidates with articles is a good solution. I've modified the list to include just Bush, Ashby, and Wyatt.

Chinese?

I am curious if u r an ABC or overseas Chinese or just a Chinese student studying in America or not at all a Chinese? Do u speak Chinese at all? I've never seen u work in Chinese WP? :O (just curious, since u r quite active editing Chinese-related topics here, but don't go to Chinese WP at all!)--Yacht 16:55, Mar 8, 2004 (UTC)

ROC Constitutional Amendments

They haven't passed yet, but I figured that it would be easiest to put them in the past tense, and the change the articles if anything unexpected happens. I've been getting the news mostly from TVBS and so the details might be very wrong since they are short news articles.

Media wiki cults

Hello Jiang, I adapted the Media wiki cults I hope you find it okay now and that you reconsider and change your comments on Vote for deletion of media wiki

It is a complicated but important subject and I think the Media Wiki cults helps people to understand it. Andries 19:58, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, I was pretty sure that was an objection, but I guess not. I think it would be nice to have some offical voting "jargon" ("Oppose", ""Support", "Neutral" etc..) reccomended at the top of the page, what say you?
