Uncontroversial technical requests: Add Jorhat, Assam, India
Requests to revert undiscussed moves: Technical move of Alpha 5 (Power Rangers) declined. Such a move would erase the new DAB page in the history of Alpha 5. Open a move discussion if you disagree

*:I ask NOT to revert my move. I changed Alpha 7 and Alpha 5 to disambiguation pages because there are more than 2 topics under that name without any primary topic. In contrast to what Ryūlóng writes, those Minolta, Konica Minolta and Sony cameras are well known under these names internationally. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 12:14, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
*::You performed an undiscussed and now controversial move and have been sanctioned regarding your creations of redirects from uncommon names. When the page is moved back, you can just add hatnotes to the tops of the pages. Disambiguation pages aren't to be filled with redirects to names that are not common in English speaking countries. That's what about or redirect are for. There was also absolutely no reason for you to turn these into disambiguation pages just to host lists of redirects like Alpha 5 (Minolta) and Alpha 5 Digital and then put the actual article we have on something known as "Alpha 5" on this project at the end of the list.—<font color="blue">Ryūlóng</font> (<font color="Gold">琉竜</font>) 12:20, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

::::Actually, you may revert me under the WP:BRD convention, although it would have been more appropriate to raise your concerns on the article's talk page so we could just have sorted them out given that no guideline was violated, no harm done and no immediate action required. In either case, you are not entitled to sanction me.
::::Having said this, I did not expect any controversy or discussion in the first place given that my edits were (and still are) fully backed up by WP:DISAMB, including WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:2DABS, and all I did was what needed to be done following the guideline in this or a similar way sooner or later. In the case of Alpha 5 we have four topics (Alpha 5 (Minolta), Alpha 5 Digital, Alpha Five, Alpha 5 (Power Rangers)) under the same name without a primary topic, in the case of Alpha 7 we have even more such topics (Alpha 7 (Minolta), Alpha 7 Limited, Alpha 7 Digital, Sony Alpha 7, Sony Alpha 7R, Sony Alpha 7S, Alpha 7 (Power Rangers)) without a primary topic.
::::Regarding common names, the cameras are known under the Maxxum name only in the USA, but under their Dynax and Alpha names elsewhere (actually, the whole system is named A-mount system all over the world since 1985). Wikipedia is an international project, US names are not any more relevant than those used in other parts of this world.
::::Owners of these cameras may not be aware of the alternative names. Readers can reasonably expect that they will be directed to the relevant contents if they type in Alpha 7. Guiding a reader to the relevant article is the very purpose of redirects and disambiguation pages. Moreover, the Sony Alpha 7 is sold under this very name in the USA (as well as anywhere else).
::::Hatnotes are typically used only for as long as there are only two topics under the same name that need to be distinguished, and only, if one of them is a primary topic. So, using hatnotes would have been inappropriate here, because it makes the Power Rangers articles a primary topic, which they aren't.
::::I moved those Power Rangers Alpha 5/7 entries to the bottom of the list since I consider some fictional/fantasy characters only known to some fans much less relevant in an encyclopedia than articles about actual products which have been (or are at present) sold in large numbers in the tenth or hundredth of thousands worldwide.

Revision as of 19:33, 12 April 2014

If a desired move is uncontroversial and technical in nature (e.g. spelling and capitalization), or a revert of an undiscussed move where discussion is needed, please feel free to move the page yourself. If you cannot, request it below.

The Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle applies to uncontroversial moves (see Wikipedia:Be bold) and reverts of undiscussed moves. The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves.

If any of the following apply to the desired move, treat it as potentially controversial:

 • There is an existing article (not just a redirect) at the target title
 • There has been any past debate about the best title for the page
 • Someone could reasonably disagree with the move.

If the page has recently been moved without discussion, you may revert the move and initiate a discussion on its talk page. If you are unable to revert, request it below.

To list new technical requests use the following code at the top of the sub-section "Technical requests" immediately below:

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Do not edit the article's talk page.

If you object to a proposal listed in Technical requests, please move it to the Contested technical requests section below.

If your technical request is contested by another editor, remove the request from the "Contested technical requests" section and follow the instructions at Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.

Alternatively, if the only obstacle to a technical move is another page in the way (e.g., a redirect to the current title of the article to be moved, a redirect with no incoming links, or an unnecessary disambiguation page with a minor edit history—if it has a single history line, see WP:MOR instead), add the following code to the top of the page that is in the way:

<!--page to be moved here-->

This will list the undesired page for deletion under criterion for speedy deletion G6. If the page is a redirect, place the code above the redirection. For a list of articles being considered for uncontroversial speedy deletion, see Category:Candidates for uncontroversial speedy deletion.
