The Sta. Maria Football Club is an amateur Filipino football club, based in Bulacan. The team currently competes in the Weekend Futbol League. They made their debut as a guest team in the 2014-15 season of the Weekend Futbol League Cup (WFL) competition.[1] The name of the football club was derived from the the name of the town where the club was founded.[2]

History

[edit]

Sta. Maria F.C. (SMFC) was established on December 31, 2012 with the vision of being the official football team of the town of Santa Maria, Bulacan. The Club was founded by passionate football fans led by Macoy Marcos and Marvin John Ignacio. The club was formerly known as the Kenyo United Football Club, a play on the word "Bulakenyo," before it was renamed to its current incarnation.

The first squad of the club was formed solely by Sta. Maria, Bulacan locals. Eventually, the club expanded it's roster with some players coming from Metro Manila. What started as a youth team, SMFC has grown into a thriving football hub that caters players of all ages. The club played it's first official WFL Cup game with a lost against the British School Manila Leons Football Club.[3]
