Goudie
OriginAustin, Texas
Years active1997–2002

Goudie was a glam band from Austin, Texas fronted by Johnny Goudie.

Goudie started off as a solo project for frontman Johnny Goudie in late 1997. The original members also included Kyle Schneider on drums. In 1998 Johnny’s friend Einar Pederson (who was also a member of Jez_Spencer with Johnny Goudie) joined on bass and Bill Lefler replaced Kyle, and the band brought in lead guitarist Jimmy Messer.

In the Spring of 1998 Goudie played the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas where they caught the attention of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich who was scouting for bands to sign to his new Music Company Label. He quickly signed the band, making Goudie the second band to be signed to the label.

In July 2000 the band released their debut album, Peep Show, to critical praise. Their first single Baby Hello went platinum as the band toured the country building what would become a large and loyal fanbase.

In 2001 Bill Lefler left the band to pursue session work in Los Angeles. The band took a short break from touring. In April 2001 Nina Singh of Kitty Gordon replaced Bill and the band continued to tour and write new songs.

In June of 2011 the band was released from their contract in the wake of Elektra Records aquisition by AOL, but the band played on, quickly signing with India Records. In July Jimmy Messer played his last show with Goudie, and Sean Mullens filled in on lead guitar.

Goudie’s sophomore album, Effects of Madnesswas released March 5, 2002 and was extremely well received, garnering comparisons to Kiss, Bob Dylan, The Pretenders, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin.

After five years together, Goudie finally called it quits in the Spring of 2002.
