Kuro has two special attacks worth noting. One is the ''Stealth Foot'', in which he makes several quick foot movements in place before moving so fast he appears to teleport. The other is the ''Shakushi'', or ''Death Ladle'' (the name of this attack was changed to ''Cat's Out of the Bag Attack'', to remove the refernce to death). In this, he sways back and forth in a partially limp fashion, to enter a trance. In this trance, he moves at speeds so fast he appears to be completely invincible. In this state, he blindly and furiously attacks everyone and everything around him, causing great devestation in a matter of moments. This attack also generates clouds of purple smoke that slide along the ground.

Captain Kuro is first introduced in the manga in Chapter 23 - Introducing Captain Usopp (as Kurahadol) and is defeated by Luffy in Chapter 40 - Usopp Pirate Crew. His name translates to "Captain Black".

The following is a list of minor characters in One Piece:

Template:Spoiler

Ace (Portgas D.)

File:Ace Small.jpg

Portgas D. Ace is Monkey D. Luffy's older brother

Ace first appeared in the Alabastan city of Nanohana; he was seen sleeping in the spicebean restaurant. He left Fuschica Village three years before Luffy, and he is an faithful crew to Whitebeard (Edward Newgate), his captain. He was in Alabasta to search for his former partner named "Blackbeard" who used to be in Whitebeard's Crew. Blackbeard killed a crew and fled and now Ace is looking for him so he can kill him.

Alvida

File:Alvida Small.jpg

Alvida is an obese woman who is in charge of the Alvida Pirates Crew. She sees herself as the most beautiful lady in all of the 4 Seas; if someone disagrees, she'll smash the offender with an Iron club. She imprisoned Koby to be her cabin boy after he boarded her ship by accident. She is defeated by Monkey D. Luffy in the beginning of the manga and anime, but she later comes back with the power of the Sube Sube Fruit, which makes her skinny, smooth and really beautiful. In Logue Town, she attempts to help Buggy the Clown execute Luffy, but fails once more. She is currently with Buggy somewhere in the Grand Line on Skull Island.

Bounty: 5 million beli

Aisa

Small Shandain girl, litte sister of Lucky. She can sense where people are by their "mantra".

Amazon

Gatekepper of Skypiea

Aokiji

Also known as "Blue Pheasant," and one of the Supreme Admiral Commanders of the Marine Corp., Aokiji has only been seen as a sleepy, somewhat lazy fellow. He has eaten a devil fruit which confers to him the elemental power of ice; Aokiji is able to manipulate it in any manner, like Crocodile and Eneru. Aokiji first encountered the Straw Hat crew after Luffy defeated Foxy; he turned Nico Robin into ice and attempted to shatter her. Nico was saved by Luffy, but Luffy was frozen by Aokiji. Although this gave Aokiji the chance to kill Luffy, he mysteriously decided against doing so.

Aokiji seems to have some relations with Luffy's grandfather, and has hinted that Luffy's grandfather was also a pirate. Instead of a sailing ship, Aokiji rides a bicyle across the water, using his ice power to create a solid road wherever he wants to go.

Bellamy

Bellamy The Hyena has a bounty of 55 million Beli. Bellamy has eaten the Bane Bane Fruit (Bane being the Japanese equivalent of "boing"), which allows him to turn any part of his body into springs. Bellamy the Hyena earned his nickname from his tradmark grin and his reputation for scavanging riches from other pirates, much like a Hyena scavanges its food. Bellamy and his pirate crew play a significant role in the Jaya Arc. Bellamy and his crew are in Jaya, looking for other powerful pirates to recruit for the "New age", presumably, this has something to do with the Age of Pirates that One Piece is supposedly occuring in.

Bellamy's character is one that is arrogant, violent and vain. He has a conflict with Luffy in a bar while trying to recruit him for his crew. This conflict can be compared to the earlier "fight" between Red-Haired Shanks and Higuma the Bear. Belllamy is taken aback when he finds that Luffy's bounty has reached 100 million, and thinks it must be some kind of joke, until he is swiftly defeated by the Luffy.

The Bellamy Pirates former leader, Donquixote Doflamingo, who was one of the Shichibukai, returned to Jaya and forced Sarquiss to presumably kill Bellamy "as a lesson," for disgracing his old pirate group, presumably when Bellamy was beaten by Luffy.

Bellamy was voiced by Wataru Takagi.

Blackbeard

File:Blackbeard Small.jpg

Blackbeard is the captain of the Black Beard pirates. Along with Van Auger (a sniper), Jesus Burgess (a fighter), Doc Q (a doctor), and Lafayette (an ex-policeman), his pirate group has pillaged the Drum Kingdom, leaving its king to flee. Blackbeard was formally a member of the Whitebeard pirates, but he apparently killed some of the other members and struck out on his own; this indicates that Blackbeard has a considerable amount of power, because Whitebeard is currently the strongest pirate in Grand Line. Later, after Luffy defeated Crocodile in Alabastia, Lafayette tried to nominate Blackbeard to become one of the Seven Armed Seas, but in order to be accepted, Blackbeard must first build up a fearsome reputation. Therefore, he planned to capture Luffy, who has a 100 million bounty on his head. Yet he seems unaware that Ace is after him. Blackbeard's true name is Marshall D. Teach, indicating a possible connection to the other "D" characters (Monkey D. Luffy, Gol D. Roger, etc.), as well as a connection to the cryptic "Will of the D".

Historically, Blackbeard was as fearsome a pirate as he is portrayed by Oda in One Piece. Blackbeard's pirate ship was discovered in South Carolina in 1996, and possibly influenced Oda when he began One Piece in 1997, evidenced by Oda's statements that Blackbeard was his favorite historical pirate.

Bon Clay

File:BonClay Small.jpg

Bon Clay, or Mr. 2 as he was known as in Baroque Works, is an okama. He is a gay man, and has a flamboyant attitude which includes singing and dancing.

The Straw Hats first meet up with Bon Clay on their way to return Princess Vivi to the desert kingdom of Alabasta. His antics immediately amused them, and Monkey D. Luffy, Usopp, and Tony Tony Chopper fell head over heels for his ability. Bon Clay ate the Mane Mane Fruit which allows him to transform into anyone he has met.

Bon Clay later discovers that his friends are really the enemies of his boss, Crocodile, thus forcing him to combat them.

In the capital Alubarna, Bon Clay and Sanji have a very intense battle. Just as Sanji looks set to be the victor, Bon Clay discovers Sanji's weakness: Nami. He impersonates her, using her form to drive Sanji into a crazy fanboyish state which allows him to even the playing field. Eventually, Sanji realizes that Bon Clay must revert to his own form to unleash his stronger attacks. He takes advantage of this and forces Bon Clay to revert to his form so that he can pummel him. The ball is in Sanji's court yet again until Bon Clay pulls his iron tipped geese from his shoulders and puts them onto his shoes. This creates more problems for Sanji, and the playing field is even once more. But eventually, Sanji manages to defeat Bon Clay.

When the Straw Hats prepare to leave Alabasta after liberating it from the tyrant warlord Crocodile, Bon Clay calls them up on a Den Den Mushi (a snail phone) and tells Luffy that he has their ship. He hid it from the marines docked in the harbour (Smoker, Hina, Django (also spelled "Jango"), Ironfist Fullbody, Tashigi, etc.) and exclaims that he did it because they are friends. Now that he is no longer a member of Baroque Works (and a pawn of Crocodile), he wants to be a close friend, perhaps even a shipmate.

As the Straw Hats and Bon Clay leave Alabasta on the Merry Go, Hina, Django, and Fullbody attack. Bon Clay comes up with a plan that would allow them to escape. He and his own shipmates impersonate the Straw Hats, thus luring Hina's squadron to them. This allows the Going Merry to escape as Bon Clay stays behind with his crew, boarding Marine ships and unleashing hell upon them. As the Going Merry draws further away, Luffy exclaims that he will never forget Bon Clay, their friends.

Bon Clay was captured by Hina. His current whereabouts are unknown, but some believe he may be held in the terrifying prison known as Impel Down.

Bartholomew Kuma

One of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Not much is currently known about him, other than that he carries around a large Bible and has two chins.

Crocodile

File:Crocodile Small.jpg

Crocodile was one of the The Seven Warlords of the Sea (Shichibukai), who are pirates of incredible power who work for the government. Despite his government contract, Crocodile organised a crime syndicate called Baroque Works, which carries out plans in secrecy. His second in command, Miss All-Sunday (who is really Nico Robin) is the only one allowed to know that he is the head of the group.

Crocodile brought Baroque Works to Alabasta and worked there to incite a rebellion. He possesses the powers of the Suna-Suna (Sand-Sand) Fruit which lets him turn his body to sand and it is a devil Fruit of the Logia type which is one of the most powerful. It is also noted that he had a hook for a left hand. He was looking for the ancient warship called the Pluton which he believe is buried somewhere in Alabasta. He wanted to be an Alabastan king with Pluton near him, but found out Pluton was not in Alabasta and plans to kill his Baroque Works vice president Nico Robin. He was defeated by Luffy (which got him banished from the Shichibukai), who then saved Nico Robin and King Cobra from the collapsing temple.

Bounty: 81 million beli

Don Krieg

File:DonKrieg Small.jpg

Don Krieg was the most powerful pirate in the East Blue (up until Luffy came, that is). He showed no honor in battle, as he used deception as his main weapon, and was completely merciless even to those he owed his life to. He had an armada of 5,000 ships. However, when he took a fleet and decided to sail to the Grand Line, it was attacked seven days later by Dracule Mihawk, the greatest swordsman on the world. All of Krieg's ships were destroyed except one. Krieg left the Grand Line and sailed to Baratie Restaurant. He knew that its owner, Red Shoes Zeff, was formerly a pirate and had sailed the Grand Line for a year. He and his pirates attacked Baratie in hopes of getting Zeff's journal. They were fighting the Baratie Fighting Cooks and Luffy when Mihawk drifted by. Krieg saw Mihawk defeat the bounty hunter Roronoa Zolo in a sword fight. Krieg wanted to fight Mihawk, but Mihawk disappeared after that. Krieg then fought Luffy and lost. He was knocked unconscious by his fleet commander Gin (Ghin in the English anime), who was commander of Krieg's crew.

Krieg was exceptinally strong, being able to stop a moving gunboat the size of a small, 2-3 story building, and then lifting it up and throwing it, all with one hand. He had golden armor with razor-sharp gems and numerous hidden guns as weaponry, including a grenade launcher that shot a lethal gas bomb.

Donquixote Doflamingo

Donquixote Doflamingo is a fictional pirate in the manga and anime One Piece.

Doflamingo is one of the most powerful pirates to appear so far in One Piece. As a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (Shichibukai), Doflamingo gave up his crew and his former bounty, which was at 340 million berries. It is unknown how he got this high a bounty. He has a Devil Fruit power that can control people like puppets, but the Devil Fruit has not yet been named.

Doflamingo's old crew is now controlled by Bellamy The Hyena. Like Bellamy, Doflamingo laughs at people's dreams in preperation for the 'New Era'. When Doflamingo learned of Bellamy's defeat at the hands of the Straw Hat Crew, Doflamingo came to Jaya and punished Bellamy.

"Hawkeye" Mihawk

Juraquille Mihawk (Dracule Mihawk in the English adaptations) is one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, or Shichibukai. He is, literally, the strongest swordsman in the world; a monster superior to monsters, as one character calls him. Because of his status and power, defeating him is Roronoa Zoro's ultimate goal. Mihawk is so strong, in fact, he is accused by characters, and some fans, as having the power of a Devil Fruit. However, the anime and manga shows us his abilities are pure skill and power. He can tear pirate ships apart with a single, unseen slash of his sword, blocking bullets with a simple turn of his sword, and he can easily defend against even legendary swords with a small, inch-long blade concealed in the cross he wears around his neck. Even his bare-handed strength is braggable.

He wields the Black Sword, the strongest Sword in the world. It's an ornately decorated, man-sized sword shaped like a church's cross with a shiny black blade, curved at the end. It also seems to generate otherworldly purple streaks as it slices, as seen when he cut down Zoro.

Though he is the "swordsman above all the world's swordsmen", Mihawk remains grounded. Though he has obviously become jaded regarding the abilities of other swordsmen, he's not unable to recognize talent. In fact, his desire is to see Roronoa Zoro surpass him, after witnessing Zoro's incredible determination and will.

Mihawk travels around in a coffin-shaped raft with two green-flamed candles, a single black sail, and a single seat. The fact that he can traverse across the unforgiving oceans, as well as the Grand Line itself, in such a meager craft is yet another testament to his abilities.

In appearance, Mihawk wears very decorative, ornate, black-and-red clothing. His most identifiable clothing would be his wide-rimmed hat decorated with a large piece of fluff, a long, black coat, and his cross necklace and sword.

Previously, Mihawk had single-handedly destroyed Don Kreig's entire fleet, save one ship, driving the pirate from the Grand Line. Due to boredom and excessive free time, he decided to follow Don Kreig and finish the job. In doing so, he encountered the Straw Hats, and Zoro immediately challenged him. To say Zoro didn't stand a chance is an understatement. Mihawk was able to block all three of Zoro's swords with the tip of his necklace blade, finally stabbing him in the chest with it. Mihawk was so suprised by Zoro's spirit, however, that he granted him a face-off against the Black Sword. Mihawk won flat-out, shattering Zoro's two swords he wields with his hands. Zoro, as an admittance of defeat, allowed himself to be cut down by Mihawk-face-to-face, like true swordsmen. Mihawk took this offer, but held back to allow Zoro to live. Afterwards, he told Zoro his full name, and gave him a challenge...

"Surpass this sword! Surpass me!"

There is some dispute as to his name, however. His name has never been spelled in English by Oda, and Japanese phonetics make it difficult to determine whether his name is "Dracule" or "Juraquille". Most fans prefer "Juraquille", partially because they feel "Dracule" sounds awkward, and partially because of the way Mihawk pronounces it (ju-ra-ky-oole).

All of the crosses on Mihawk's person is edited out in the 4Kids dub, changing his necklace to an "I", and shortening the "arms" of his sword.

Franky

Franky was known as Cutty Flam in his early life. Tom, the legendary shipwright took him as another apprentice after he was thrown out by his parents. He usually wears shirt and swimpants only, and particularly skilled in constructing devices out of scraps. The name Franky was first said by Iceburg since the name Cutty Flam was too strange.

There was an CP5 leader name Spandam who tries to buy the Pluton blueprint from Tom. When Tom won't coorperate, He had one of his men to use the Battle Franky that Franky build to fire at the Jury ship; thus framing Franky, Tom and Iceburg. After they prepare to take Tom away, an enraged Franky attacked Spandam.

Franky got ran over by the Sea Train, while he tried to stop it, since Tom was being accused of a crime he did not do. His dying body drifts to a scrapped ship and he immediately replace most of his body parts with metal, and he practically became a cyborg. Back in Water Seven, he organised a bounty hunter/dismantler group called The Franky Family.

His family attacked Usopp and stole 200 of the 300 million berries that the Straw Hats received in exchange for their Skypeia gold; the wounded Usopp goes after them to his hideout to get them back only to get beaten up. Franky then left to spend the berries. After Luffy wiped out the Franky Family to avange his friend, he decide to change the ship because it was irrepairable; Usopp sees himself weak and quits the crew.

Usopp challenges Monkey D. Luffy to a duel to win the ship. Usopp loses the duel but gets to keep the ship anyway. The dishearted Luffy and his crew leaves Usopp alone with the empty ship. Later, when Franky finds his hideout and his family beaten up, he swears revenge.

Enraged he goes to find Luffy to challage him to a fight. because Iceburg was shot by Nico Robin, the Straw-Hat Pirates were to blame; the shipwights was after both the brooding Luffy and Franky so non of them won the fight. Luffy tried to reason with the angry mob but to no avail, Franky became angry at the shipwights for interrupting his fight, he performed the Coup de Vent that blows the ships up, giving Luffy andNami time to escape.

Franky later found Usopp and took him and his ship to his warehouse. Franky wanted to use Usopp as a bait to lure Luffy to his lair so Franky can finish figthing him. He had his family running around Water 7 spreading the news for the Straw-Hat to hear saying things like "Franky is holding that long-nose freak! He is beating him to a bloodly plup!!"

But in the warehouse Franky developed a warm friendship with Usopp. Franky who was also a shipwright inspected the Merry Go and told Usopp that it is irrepairable and tries to dismantle the Merry Go (Going Merry Go in the Japanese versions); Usopp, who is extremely attacted to the ship, tries to fight Franky only to find himself get thrown in the water under the ship and to see the kneel badly damaged.

Usopp of course tries to repair the ship again; Franky told him to quit that because no matter how many times he does that the ship will sink anyway. The angery Usopp, rudly told Franky to shut up but he confessed that he knew this all along and told Franky about an strange figure who repaires his ship to an original state back in Skypedia.

Franky understood him and told him about a ship spirit called the Klabauterman; a ship that repairs itself. Usopp realizes it was the Merry Go that repairs itself and that the Merry Go had talked to him.

After a brief discussion, there was the knock on the door. It was none other than CP9. Franky tries to encourge Usopp to go back to his friends again; Yet Usopp was so hard-headed, he got in the argument with him. Franky tries to reason with him but was cut of when he saw his "Square Sisters" getting knocked down by Califa.

He is currently with Usopp and Sanji on the Puffing Tom.

Gaimon

Gaimon is a character that gets his body imprisoned in an empty treasure chest after he loses his grip while scaling a small cliff on the mysterious Island of Rare Animals (Gold Island in the english anime) trying to find some treasure with his pirate crew. The crew leaves Gaimon stranded on the island. The treasure chest becomes his body and cannot be removed, however, he can still use his hands, head and feet. It takes 20 years for another person to find him.

After Gaimon shrinks when he gets stuck in the chest, he can no longer scale the cliff. He has to protect his treasures somehow, so he would use his gun and his spooky voice to drive away intruders. Monkey D. Luffy and the whole crew passes the trial and they begin to become friends. However, when Luffy finally gets to the top of the cliff, Gaimon realized that the treasure chests were empty too and he had been protecting a nonexistent "treasure" for 20 years. Then, he considers the animals as his treasures, and vows to protect them.

Eiichiro Oda has stated that Gaimon is his favorite character to draw.

Grandpa

Nothing is known about Luffy's grandfather. He only appeared in a 1997 ad for One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Gin

Gin, known as Ghin in the English anime, is Don Krieg's right hand man. Gin is given a plate of food by Sanji for free when Gin is starving on the Baratie. When Don Krieg's forces come to take over the Baratie, Gin is ordered to kill Sanji. Gin, a person who tortured and killed other people with his clubs, could not make himself kill Sanji. Gin is punished by Don Krieg. His name originates from a kind of alcohol, Gin. The name was respelled "Ghin" in the English anime as a way of obscuring the origin of the name.

Gold Roger

File:Roger Small.jpg

Gold Roger is the former King of the Pirates, and was previously the strongest pirate alive and owner of the legendary treasure known as One Piece. Gold Roger was quite fearless, those who saw him just before his execution claim that he smiled gleefully just before his death. In the anime, two men jabbed spears into his heart. In the English anime he was hung at the Gallows, while the English manga says they "lopped off his head." The original Japanese manga, however, never reveals how he was executed (which may or may not become an important plot point in the future).

Gold Roger and his former crew were apparently versed in ancient languages, and they had allegedly visited almost (if not all) of the islands in the Grand Line; he befriended Gon Forr, the "God," of Skypeia, a few years before his death, and left a cryptic inscription near the Ancient Tablet of Cyandora. Each of the Ancient Tablets revealed something lost to normal history; Gold Roger took the most important tablet to the last island of Grand Line.

The death of Gold Roger marked the beginning of the age of pirates. This was because his legendary treasure; One Piece was now up for grabs, people took to the seas in search of it.

Later on in the manga Dr. Kureha reveals that his true name was Gol D. Roger. The significance of the middle initial "D" (which is shared by Luffy, his brother Ace, and Blackbeard) could suggest Gol D. Roger was related to Luffy in some way.

Hina

File:Hina Small.jpg

Hina is a marine in One Piece. She has received the nickname Hina the Black Cage because of her Devil Fruit ability which allows her to bend parts of her body around people and imprison them. She is a long-time friend of fellow marine Captain Smoker.

Hina also has a tendency to smoke and speak in third person. Members of her crew include Koby, Helmeppo, Jango and Fullbody. The latter two are in love with her and constantly try to impress her. Hina coldly spurns any affections they make toward her.

Hattori

Holy

Iceburg

File:Iceburg Small.jpg

Iceburg was the founder of the Galley-la ship company, and the mayor of Water Seven, a water canal based city, much like Venice. He was also an apprentice to Tom, the legendary merman shipwright who built the Oro (Gold) Jackson, Gold Roger's ship, and the Sea Train, a ship resembeling a train which runs on tracks. He later employed carpenters with talents both in carpentry and fighting, and therefore, able to eradicate any pirate threat which endanger his company or city.

Later, he was pressed by the CP9 to hand over the blueprints for Pluton, an ancient warship which is one of the ancient weapons.

Django

File:Jango Small.jpg

Django (ジャンゴ Jango) is the first mate of Captain Kuro. He uses disks that double as chakrams to hypnotize people to his advantage in battle. "Django" is the spelling used by the United States version of One Piece released in the U.S. Shonen Jump by Viz. Many fans prefer the spelling "Jango".

Django wears strange clothes, including a long coat covered in the disks he uses to fight and hypnotize, and black-lensed heart-shaped glasses. It can be assumed that his character was based on Michael Jackson and Steven Tyler, the Aerosmith's singer, as when he travels he usually moonwalks, and he uses flashy gestures similar to Michael Jackson's dance moves. Other notable similarities can be put between his trench coat and his heart shaped sunglasses.

Django possesses the power of hypnosis, which he uses to put people to sleep and to make Captain Kuro's crew far more powerful and fierce. He is not, however, perfect with his hypnosis - when he puts people to sleep, he usually falls asleep as well. And when he hypnotizes the crew to make them stronger, he also accidentally hypnotizes Monkey D. Luffy - with unpleasant results.

Django is ordered by Kuro to kill Kaya, but before he can kill her, Usopp hits him with his exploding stars. Django is thought dead, but secretly survives. Through many adventures and lots of hypnosis, he ends up a Marine recruit, working alongside the disgraced Ironfist Fullbody, under the command of Hina (whom they both adore).

Django gained his powers after eating a mushroom (Most likly a devil fruit) that had grown on his chin while he was sleeping. He only ate the cap and the trunk of the mushroom still resides on his chin.

Johnny and Yosaku

Johnny and Yosaku are old friends of Roronoa Zolo (Roronoa Zoro in Japan).

In the English manga, the two have a habit of adding a "brother" or "sister" prefix to whoever they are talking to; this derives from the two addressing others with the "aniki" (male) or "aneki" (female) suffix in the Japanese version. E.G. they call Zolo "Brother Zolo" (Zoro-aniki in the Japanese version) and Nami "Sister Nami" (Nami-aneki in the Japanese version).

Kaku

He is the Gallery-la shipwight who was the government agent in disguse. He is one of the CP9.

Kalifa

File:Kalifa Small.jpg

Kalifa is Iceburg's beautiful secretary. She appears to respect Iceburg an immense amount and will not take anything from people who speak ill of him. Indications of her beauty come in the form of stars, which periodically twinkle around her.

Kalifa is later revealed to be a member of the government agency CP9.

Kamakiri

The warrior of Skypiea who raided the Upperyard (Part of Jaya island sent up into the sky by the Knock-Up Stream).

Kapoty

One of the Foxy crew, he is the Merman. He particaptes in the Donut race with Porche and Monda in the Davy Back Fight.

Karoo

Also spelled "Carue". Vivi's pet spot-billed duck, a fast-footed riding bird. His role during Vivi's time with the Straw Hat Pirates is mostly that of comic relief, although he does relay valuable information to Chopper from time to time, and saves Vivi from Mr. 2 Bon Clay in Arabasta. His name comes from the Japanese word "karugamo," which means "spot-billed duck."

Kaya

Kaya is a rich girl who gets an inheritance after her parents die. Kaya becomes sickly, and her servant Kurahadore often tends to her. One day, Usopp, the town liar, listens in on a conversation between Kurahadore and Jango, a hypnotist. Kurahadore, also known as Captain Kuro, reveals that he plans to kill Kaya for her money. Usopp tries to warn Kaya about the plot, but Kaya believes that he is lying; she rebukes him when he insists that he is telling the truth.

Kaya is later informed of the truth by Merry, another servant of hers. Kaya confronts Kuro during a battle between Kuro and his men and Monkey D. Luffy, Usopp, Nami, and Roronoa Zolo (Roronoa Zoro in Japan). Kuro reveals that he tried to kill Merry. Kaya aims a gun at Kuro, but she drops it and cries after Kuro talks about how he was publicly at her side and how much he wants to kill her. Usopp tells his "pirate crew" (in reality a group of children who lie along with Usopp) named "Usopp's Pirates" (known as the Veggie Pirates in the English anime) to protect Kaya. The members, Carrot, Onion, and Pepper (Ninjin, Tamanegi, and Piman in the Japanese version), flee with Kaya to the forest. Django chases after them and attacks the group. When the children try to sneak up on Django, he attacks them and threatens to kill them. Kaya threatens to kill herself unless the children are kept alive. As she has not yet signed a will that states that Kuro is to get Kaya's worth when she dies, Django would be in trouble if she kills herself at this point, so he agrees to leave the children alone. In the English version of the anime, this scene was changed. In the scene in question in the English dub, Kaya tries to use Django's chakrams against him, but the chakrams will not let her use them.

The children pretend to be knocked out when Django forces Kaya to sign the will. Right before Django is able to slice her throat apart, Usopp's pirates ram him with a shovel. After Django knocks them away, Usopp and Zolo appear. Zolo slices off a branch with his sword, while Usopp hits Django with his Secret Technique Shooting Star attack, saving Kaya's life.

After the incident, Kaya gives the Merry Go (Going Merry Go in the Japanese version) to Luffy and his group of pirates as gratitude for saving her life.

Koby

Koby is a kid who is the cabin boy of Alvida. He wishes to become part of the Navy. Later on he does so along with captain Morgan's son Helmeppo; they have difficulty to pass even the simplest training at first but vow to work hard to become Marines someday.

Kohza

File:Kohza Small.jpg

Kohza is Princess Vivi's childhood friend and an leader of the Suna Suna Clan. (Suna=sand)

11 years ago, when both he and Vivi were five years old, Kohza went into the palace without his father Toto, to beg King Cobra to save his oasis hometown Yuba. Arabasta was in the middle of a drought and Yuba was drying up; Kohza's father told him a king can do anything, so he asked the king to send rain. Unfortunately, the king informed Kohza that he did not have it in his power to do that. At that point, Toto rushed in and scolded Kohza for sneaking in without his notice. Cobra excused them and asked them to live in Alubarna; Toto agreed, but Kohza rejected it, and went off crying. He bumped into Vivi, who insulted him and called him a crybaby. The two subsequently got into a fight. Igaram, the Captain of the Royal Guard, was infuriated by this and tried to kill Kohza. The King stopped him. Toto almost committed suicide to atone for this, but Cobra hand-chopped the two to calm them down and informed them that it was only a kiddy fight. Vivi and Kohza went outside; the boys supported Kohza while the girls supported Vivi. We didn't know the outcome of the fight, but in the end Kohza made her a sub-leader for the Suna-Suna clan and they became friends.

Later, some thugs began to harass Vivi, and wanted to kidnap her. Kohza and the Suna-Suna clan defended Vivi and told her to run. They tried to stop the thugs but they were too big for them, so almost all of the clan was wounded. Vivi ran into the ruins as the crazed thugs chased her, and Kohza followed. When one of the thugs found her, Kohza jumped in. One of the thugs pulled out a knife and stabbed Kohza near the left eye, giving him a permanent scar. Kohza, still bleeding, managed to knock out the thug, but the other thugs almost kidnapped Vivi. Luckily, Cobra and Igaram came to the rescue just in time to kick the thugs down. Chaka and Pell, the two bodyguards, showed up and wondered why the king was so far from his palace. Kohza and the other members of the Suna-Suna Clan were taken to the palace for medical treatment, and Kohza developed a friendship with Chaka.

8 years later, another drought struck Alabasta, this time caused by Dance Powder, which steals rain from other clouds. This incident was known as Dance Powder Scandal. It started in Erumalu: some carriers were bringing the bags of Dance Powder to Alubarna, but the cart wheel was broken and the bags fell off and ripped up, exposing the illegal substance. When people asked what it was, one carrier lied to them that the king had ordered them to transport it, and thus the King was blamed for the incident. When the rebellion against the King gained momentum, Kohza took its place at its head, little realizing that the drought was actually the work of Crocodile.

Though he headed the assault on the Royal Palace, he helped stop the rebellion once he realized what was really going on. Though gravely wounded in the battle, he recovered and helped his father Toto rebuild the city of Yuba.

Kohza was last seen at Ukkari Hot Spring, owned and operated by his uncle Goro, along with Ener's ex-High Priest Gedatsu.

Kuina

The childhood friend of Roronoa Zolo. She was the daughter of the sword master of a dojo and the reason why Zolo developed the Santoryu technique and why he treasures one of his swords, the Wado Ichimonji, more than the others. In the english anime Wado Ichimonji is just "Wado". When Zolo was young, he challenged every dojo he came across and claimed their signs (in Japan, the sign signifies the dojo is to be respected). When he came across Kuina and her family's dojo, he finally met his match. Zolo fought Kuina regularly, but found he could never beat her. Kuina, who has lost interest in sword fighting, became inspired again to become the greatest swordsman in the world as Zolo strove to beat her. She unfortunately dies before fufilling this dream. In the English anime she get's too injured to fufill her dream. Zolo decided to take her sword, Wado Ichimonji, and bring their shared dream of becoming the greatest swordsman to fruition in order to honour Kuina.

Kureha, Doctor

Doctor Kureha, an old doctor, taught everything she knew to her student, Tony Tony Chopper. She is a borderline alcoholic because she always has a bottle in her hand, and she seems to suffer from an anger problem.

Kuro

File:Kuro Small.jpg

Captain Kuro, a.k.a. Kurahadol (this alias has been translated as Khlahadore in the series' English releases, though it does detract from the connection to his real name), is the dreaded head of the Black Cat Pirates. He is also known as Kuro of the Thousand Plans for his elaborate plans that never fail. His weapons, the "Cat Claws", are furred gloves with a full-length sword blade at the end of each finger. He has incredible speed and stealth and was the scourge of the seas until he vanished three years ago by staging his own death during a sea battle with the Marines.

Captain Kuro set up an elaborate scheme in a small village he came to live in, in order to live free from pursuit with great wealth. He took the name Kurahadol and secretly killed the wealthy parents of Kaya, who lived on the island. He then became the servant of Kaya for the next three years. When three years passed, he contacted his old first mate, the hypnotist Django, and arranged for the Black Cat pirates to siege the village, force Kaya to write and sign a will leaving all her wealth to Kuro, and then kill Kaya.

His plan goes awry when he is overheard by Monkey D. Luffy and Usopp when he speaks to Django about his plans. Luffy, Usopp, Roronoa Zolo (Roronoa Zoro in the the Japanese versions), and Nami fight with the Black Cat Pirates. Luffy ensures that his plan is a failure; Usopp saves Kaya from Django in the nick of time, Zolo defeats the Meowman Brothers (Nyaban Brothers in the Japanese version) (Siam and Butchie), and Luffy defeats Captain Kuro.

Kuro has two special attacks worth noting. One is the Stealth Foot, in which he makes several quick foot movements in place before moving so fast he appears to teleport. The other is the Shakushi, or Death Ladle (the name of this attack was changed to Cat's Out of the Bag Attack, to remove the refernce to death).

When he was in butler mode there were strange symbols on his vest. Oda jokingly explained these symbols are poop, signifying that he's full of crap!

Kuro-obi

Kuromarimo

One of Wapol's henchmen who appears in the Drum Island arc. He fights using the large afros on his fists, and sports a large afro on his head, and three small ones on his beard. He has the ability to do many tricks with said afros, from ejecting spikes from them to using them to constrict opponents. His name translates to "Blackafro" ("kuro" being the Japanese word for "black", while "marimo" is the Japanese name for the afro hair-style).

Lucky

Makino

Makino is the bartender from the hometown of Monkey D. Luffy, Fuschia Village.

A very kind person, Makino was a close friend of Shanks and his crew and Luffy. Makino appeared to be a very prominent figure in Fuschia Village. It is speculated that she will be revealed as Luffy's mother later in the manga.

Mohji the Beast Breaker

Mohji is the first mate of the Buggy's Band pirate crew (the second mate being Cabaji the Acrobat). He is rides an enormous lion named Richie into battle.

Mohji was sent to destroy the town Buggy's crew had taken over and while attempting to rob a pet store Monkey D. Luffy arrived and defeated Richie.

Paulie

File:Paulie Small.jpg

Paulie is the Dock 1 Division Leader of the Galley-La Company of Water 7. A very skilled shipwright, Paulie's fighting style is very unique. He attacks with ropes. He is in debt and will jump upon any opportunity to clear himself of it. He also has a prudish revulsion towards women who wear revealing outfits. Whenever he sees one wearing anything skimpy, he gets on their case, and calls them "lewd."

When Paulie first met the Straw Hats, he did not seem to like them very much (taking special offense to Nami, whom he deemed "lewd"). After it appeared that they were responsible for Iceberg's attempted murder, he had it out for them, and attacked Luffy along with the other Galley-La shipwrights. He remained convinced that Luffy & co. had it out for Galley-La until he, too, was attacked by CP9 and was shown their true forms: his trusted friends and colleagues Rob Lucci, Calipha, Kaku, and Blueno. Faced with this reality, he teamed up with Luffy to attack CP9 head-on, but was defeated unceremoniously and immediately.

Paulie was rescued from the wreckage of Galley-La HQ by Chopper, and later helped coordinate efforts to find and rescue Luffy and Zolo (who had been thrown far by Lucci). Soon afterwards, he volunteered to accompany the Straw-Hats (along with the Franky Family, Kokoro, Peeply Lulu and Tileston) to rescue Robin, Franky, and Usopp before they reached the dreaded Aeneas Lobby, headquarters of the Marines. The group set out on the Sea Train prototype "Rocket Man," hoping to catch up to Puffing Tom before it was too late.

Tashigi

Tashigi is a marine. Her rank is currently either Chief Petty Officer or Sergeant Major, depending on whether one goes by the navy or army model (in Japanese, both are 曹長 sōchō). She was first introduced when the Straw Hats docked in Logue Town, where she was stationed as Captain Smoker's subordinate. The two work very well together and almost have a Father-Daughter relationship. Tashigi's stated goal is to remove all Meitō (named swords with prestigious histories) from the hands of those who would use them for their own selfish ends.

The first Straw Hat whom Tashigi stumbles across is Roronoa Zolo. She is unaware of the fact that he is a pirate. Being a fellow swordsman, Tashigi helps Zolo pick out new swords at a local sword shop. During their entire time together Zolo is extremely nervous around Tashigi because she resembles his deceased childhood friend Kuina. Kuina is injured in the English version.

After Tashigi finds out that Zolo is with the Straw Hat pirates, her prime goal becomes taking down Zolo. When Luffy and his crew escape Rogue Town from the marines, Smoker and Tashigi set sail and pursue them.

Tashigi and Smoker, chasing after the Straw Hats, arrive at Alabasta to find the country already in chaos. Learning of Crocodile's machinations, they (temporarily) ally themselves with Luffy & crew in their fight against Baroque Works. Tashigi is badly wounded in her duel with Miss Doublefinger, but survives. While she and Smoker know the truth behind the events at Alabasta, they seem content to keep chasing the Straw Hat Pirates along the Grand Line.

Tom

T-Bone

T-Bone is a marine captain working with the government employed agency CP9. T-Bone's abilities (if he has any) are still not known, but he has a hideous face (which looks quite deadish) that frightens people. Ironically, T-Bone devotes everyday to helping people.

Vivi

File:Vivi Small.jpg

Vivi is the princess of the Kingdom of Alabasta and the daughter of its current King, Cobra. When the reputation of the King was sullied and a rebellion instigated, Vivi (along with Igaram, the Captain of the Royal Guard) infiltrated the criminal organization "Baroque Works" under the alias "Miss Wednesday." There, she discovered that the villain behind the chaos in her homeland was none other than Sir Crocodile, a member of The Seven Warlords of the Sea (Shichibukai). As she was still ostensibly a Baroque Works Officer Agent when she first met Luffy, the Straw Hats first treated her as an enemy. After her backstory was revealed (and Nami extorted money out of Igaram), however, they agreed to take her in and bring her safely to Alabasta.

During her time on the Going Merry, Vivi grew close to the Straw Hat Pirates, admiring their indomitable spirit in the face of adversity and their kind-hearted nature. She even reflected that she'd like to be a member of their pirate crew, if she wasn't a princess. The feeling was mutual, in fact: Luffy offered to let her join (they even considered her one of them), but though Vivi very nearly did, she ultimately (and tearfully) declined the offer.

Vivi was last seen enjoying the geothermal baths of Ukkari Hot Spring, owned and operated by Goro (Toto's brother and Kohza's uncle).

Yasopp

Yasopp is a member of the Red-hared Pirates along with Red-Haired Shanks, Lucky Roux, Ben Beckmen, and Rockstar. He is a gifted sharp-shooter and can shoot the feelers of an ant at 100 feet without harming it. He is the father of Usopp.
