About me
I am going on a wikivacation, to make more time for important things like finding a new job and moving cross-country. So, I won't be able to get around to feeding my various wiki projects in a timely fashion until sometime in September. But do feel free to leave a note on my user talk page if you'd like to draw my attention to something in particular. I'm sorry that I may not be able to give a timely reply.
I am expecting to move from San Francisco to Boston in August or September. I am taking digital pictures of San Francisco before I leave. If you have any special requests, no guarantees, but you should probably speak up sooner rather than later. -- Beland 8 July 2005 04:20 (UTC)
Pearle
I am the owner of Pearle Wisebot. Feel free to leave messages about the behavior of Pearle on my personal talk page.

CFD Cleanup
Finish implementing this decision:
- Merge Wikipedia:Substub into Wikipedia:Stub.
- Pull everything appropriate from Category:Wikipedia style and how-to, Category:Wikipedia guidelines (completed S-Z so far), and Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines for a new category, "Category:Wikipedia style guidelines". Make it a subcategory of Category:Wikipedia guidelines.
- Pull everything appropriate from Wikipedia:Style and How-to Directory and Category:Wikipedia help into a new "Category:Wikipedia how-to", with subcategories.
- Delete Category:Wikipedia style and how-to
- Clean up Wikipedia:Style and How-to Directory.
- Wikipedia talk:What is a troll (renaming)
- Implement Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion#Template:Page_fixing_tools as redirect, if approved by Jun 5, UTC.

Science
- Time could use a rewrite to make it flow better
- History of science has growing pains
- Timeline of scientific discoveries and Category:Science timelines
- Science_studies needs a lot of help. It may need a Wikibook project.
- Sociology of scientific knowledge
- Scientific enterprise
- Sociology_of_knowledge
- History_of_science_and_technology - may need inbound links fixed
- Peer-review Scientific_method and read Talk:Scientific_method. Possible merge with Scientific enterprise.

- Elminate "fluid" metaphor from Electromagnetic field
- E, B -> EMF -> EW -> QED -> Standard Model
- Electromagnetic field should say it's part of electroweak theory and is special relativity-compliant.
- Electric_field should say that it's part of EM/electroweak theory/standard
- Global System for Mobile Communications, GSM core network, and related

Meta
Mergers
- See Wikipedia talk:Browse
- Wikipedia_talk:Welcoming_committee - Some pages in Category:Wikipedia basic information could use merging.
- Category:Wikipedia needs cleaning again. Combine things about protected pages.
- Wikipedia:Topical index needs to be converted into category listings.
- Wikipedia:Utilities needs to be reconciled with categories, templates (on User:Beland) and Wikipedia:Community portal.
- Wikipedia:Maintenance could probably use an update. Is it in the most easily maintainable form? Is it redundant with Category:Wikipedia maintenance or any other pages? Templates? What maintenance pages should Wikipedia:Community Portal and Template:Opentask point to?
Avoidance mergers
- Upgrade Wikipedia:Be cautious with compliments and mass attribution and form consensus
- Wikipedia:Avoid weasel terms -> Wikipedia:Be cautious with compliments and mass attribution
- Wikipedia:Avoid peacock terms -> Wikipedia:Be cautious with compliments and mass attribution
- Wikipedia:Be cautious with compliments and mass attribution -> Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles (or at least summarize it there)
- Update Wikipedia:Words to avoid
Talk mergers
- Wikipedia talk:Writers' rules of engagement -> Wikipedia:Wikiquette
- Wikipedia talk:Talk page guidelines -> Wikipedia:Wikiquette, Wikipedia:Talk page
More
- Coordinate bugs on Wikipedia:Categorization with Wikipedia:Merge some redundant lists to categories.
- Clean Wikipedia:Category_schemes
- Clean Category:Wikipedia proposals
- Post to Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories
- Tidy Wikipedia talk:Categorization and Wikipedia:Categorization
Religion
- Atheism needs rounding out after it is un-protected.
- Arguments_against_the_existence_of_God and Arguments for the existence of God might be fun to edit.
Politics
- Peer review UN Reform and later sections of United Nations, possibly organize its talk page
- Check up on Capitalism
- Should the following be merged? United States territorial acquisitions History of United States imperialism Historic regions of the United States
- Colossus: The Price of America's Empire by Niall Ferguson
- Empire: The Rise and Demise of the British World Order and the Lessons for Global Power by Niall Ferguson
- Note that many modern Americans reject the label "empire/imperialism".
- De-Americanize Separation_of_powers, incorporate comments on the UK. (See section "Other countries").
- Abbreviations and Acronyms of the U.S. Government
- Address todo list on Progressivism
Sexuality
To-do list for WikiProject Sexology and sexuality:
|
- http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/The_Swiss_vote_yes_to_same-sex_relationships_and_%22Schengen/Dublin%22
- Gender role needs POV check.
- History of sexuality and Demographics of sexual orientation need attention. May need to merge from Anthropological classification of homosexuality.
- Improve homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality, Homosexuality and transgender and sexual orientation with regard to terminology and orientation/behavior/identity considerations.
- Improve Genetics and sexual orientation, esp. terminology in twin studies
- Refactor Causes_of_sexual_orientation in Sexual orientation w.r.t. genetic and environmental/choice subarticles. Talk:Causes_of_sexual_orientation suggests science/society not gene/environment split.
- Also sync homosexuality and morality
- Add something like the following to Nature_versus_nurture_debate and/or Sexual_orientation. Or maybe make a "multi-determined" article.
- Multi-determination: A car owner notices the check engine light on their dashboard is on, but continues driving for 3 days. On the highway, the engine suddenly fails. A second car that has been tailgating crashes into the first one. A nearby philosopher asks whether the cause of the accident was the way the car was built, or the way it was operated by the owner. In fact, if the car had been built differently, operated differently, or followed differently, the accident would not have happened. The accident is "multi-determined". Cite that STS book.
- Reconcile Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sexology_and_Sexuality/Terminology with Avoiding Heterosexual Bias in Language.
- Homosexuality, Heterosexuality, and Sexual_orientation, and Anthropological classification of homosexuality need to be re-synchronized.
- All sexology articles need their See Also sections cleaned, especially converion to categories where needed.
West Springfield/Pioneer Valley History
- Obtained source materials
- Extract and summarize
- Post full text of non-copyrighted content?
- Massachusetts
- Pioneer Valley
- West Springfield, Massachusetts
- Springfield, Massachusetts

EM Categorization
- Electromagnetic field, Electroweak force, Fundamental force, SU(3)XSU(2)XU(1), Standard_Model
- E, B -> EMF -> EW -> QED -> Standard Model
United States Categorization
- Clean up Category:History of the United States. Most articles belong in a subcategory; some new subcategories need to be created, including Category:US history by year. Many articles need to be assigned to multiple categories. Cross-referencing by year would be useful.
- Category:Companies_of_the_United_States (top level needs sorting out)
- Category:Subdivisions of the United States (check entire tree for anomalies)

Postmodernity
Some of the antecedents of postmodernism are missing from modernism.
The postmodern articles are too long and very hard to read.

World legal systems
- Goal: Write an article on Legal systems of the world
- Historical derivation of current systems
- Main ideas of each historical/ideological system
- Add to Category:Legal_history, Category:Law
Problems
- Legal_system is probably missing a number of fundamental references, including many kinds of law listed in religious law. It should either reference or summarize or be Legal systems of the world
- Legal_history is also somewhat fluffy, and might actually be the best place to put Legal systems of the world.
- Legal_code is very fluffy and could probably use a merge or a re-write. It also has broken links and grammatical issues.
