[[John Dorian|J.D.]] develops [[appendicitis]], and has to spend [[Thanksgiving (United States)|Thanksgiving]] as a patient at [[Sacred Heart Hospital]]. During his treatment, he is cared for by [[Elliot Reid|Elliot]] and [[Chris Turk|Turk]]. J.D. complains that Elliot's [[bedside manner]] is too cold, forcing her to re-examine how she treats patients. J.D. also has misgivings about being operated on by Turk, who J.D. still sees as an immature college student, and requests to be operated on by someone else. However, when J.D.'s condition worsens, Turk is the surgeon on-call, and so performs the operation. J.D. realises that Turk is indeed a skilled surgeon, and apologizes to him for doubting him. |

Meanwhile, [[Perry Cox|Dr. Cox]] and [[Bob Kelso|Dr. Kelso]] fight for the attention of Dr. Benson, a retired Chief of Medicine at [[Sacred Heart Hospital]] who has returned to the hospital as a patient. Kelso makes a decision that almost costs Dr. Benson his life. However, Dr. Benson ends up chiding Dr. Cox for refusing to "play the game," and for sabotaging his own career. |

The episode ends with the begrudging Sacred Heart family enjoying a makeshift Thanksgiving over drinks in the local bar. |
