Marius Johnsen is the second son of Reidun and Jan Johnsen. He was born in Kristiansand, Norway, on August 28th 1981.

Johnsen currently plays football for I.K. Start, as a left back player. During the summer of 2005, he made his debut on the Norway national football team, with great success. He is considered one of the greatest talents in Norwegian Premier League, as of 2005. His older brother Espen Johnsen is the goalkeeper for Rosenborg B.K. in Trondheim, Norway.

He currently studies religion at the Agder University College, planning to teach history and/or religion at a college or University. Like the rest of his family, he is involved in the activities of the Norwegian Free Church, a Norwegian evangelical lutheran church. Like his brother, he has made a mark in the national press for publicly expressing his religious beliefs.
