"Eh, Eh"
Song

"Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" is a pop song recorded by American singer Lady GaGa from her debut album The Fame. It has been announced as the third single in Australia and New Zealand only. It is receiving much promotion in Australia and recently in New Zealand, due to an increase in radio play.

Song release

The single is to be officially released on January 31, 2009 from Australian music retail and online music outlets on February 2, 2009.[4] The Australian discount department store Big W, has the single cover art listed on their website.[5] "Eh, Eh" was the second most added song on Australian radio on the week beginning December 15, 2008.[6][7] This song was confirmed as an Australian single on Lady GaGa's official website on January 15, 2009. An official remix was also posted on her website that day. The New Zealand mobile network operator company, Vodafone has listed the digital song release on February 24, 2009.[8]

Lyrics

Lady GaGa stated that the lyrics of "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" is a love song and she explained that: "‘Eh, Eh' is my simple pop song about finding someone new and breaking up with the old boyfriend."[9]

Reception

In a review in the The Guardian, Alexis Petridis noted that "Eh, Eh" bears the influence of early 90s Europop and "is the first song in a long time that warrants comparison to the œuvre of "Ace of Base".[10]

Billboard gave a negative review of the song saying "The Fame has it's 'ballad,' however the breezy "Eh, Eh" doesn't hold water on this album; rather, it feels dry and lifeless, something which holds this album back" [11]

Chart performance

"Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" debuted on the ARIA Singles Chart at number number 38 due to strong digital sales. The following week it climbed to 32 and has since peaked at 19, making it her 3rd singles to hit the top 20 there. This debut into the ARIA chart top 50 was by downloads. The CD single was released on Saturday, January 31st 2009 to stores.[12] With the help of physical sales "Eh, Eh" peaked at number #19.

In New Zealand, "Eh, Eh" debuted at number fourty on the issue dated January 19, 2009 and has moved up to a peak of 24.[13]

On the Billboard issue dated February 21, 2009, "Eh, Eh" debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 chart at number 68.[14]

Music video

The Italian-based video for the song, directed by Joseph Kahn, was shot on the weekend of 9 January 2009 in Los Angeles.[15][16] The music video premiered on PerezHilton on February 3, 2009.[17] The video starts off with Lady GaGa sitting on a motorbike. The first 20 seconds are mainly full of camera shots of different men, Lady GaGa and the city. The first main scene shows GaGa with some friends laughing and joking around in some sort of restaurant. Throughout this, there are shots of GaGa singing the song and giving different gestures. GaGa then comes from around the block singing and walking in pace with the camera while friends follow her. She is shown in a bed asleep, and then pulls the cover off to reveal some pink high-heeled shoes. GaGa sings and cooks for a man in a house while dancing around. She is also shown ironing some clothes while the man is on the phone screaming at someone. The two Great Danes who appear at the start of her "Poker Face" music video, also appear in this one. Lastly she lies on a sofa with her legs up on the man in her house. She then kisses a man passionately with her "Beats by Dr. Dre headphones" on. The last scene shows her in a yellow dress made of flowers singing to the song with a unique hairstyle which shows her hair pulled up and folded over.

About the video, GaGa explained that "I wanted to show a different side of myself - perhaps a more domestic girly side. And I wanted to create beautiful, stunning '50s futuristic fashion imagery that would burn holes in everyone's brains."[18]
