Marc Yoshida

Masahito Yoshida (born June 15 1982 in Tokyo, Japan) better known under his Christian name Marc Yoshida, is currently an Economics/Business/Law student.

== Early life / Family background == Yoshida is a descendent of Genji, and the son of Hisashi A.J. Yoshida and Rumi Victoria Hashimoto. When Marc was eight years old, his family moved from Japan to Switzerland, Leysin for his father's work with the Japanese Ministry of Education and leading the Kumon Academy. His father is allegedly half quarter Russian, thus making him a sixteenth Japanese-Russian. The family moved around in europe (Paris, France; London, United Kingdom; Berlin, Germany), but mainly spent their decade long offshore residence in the mountains of Switerland. He has attended Ecole Superieure des Ormonts, where he became fluent in French and learnt German. He has reportedly finished the terminal examinations in Mathematics and Physical Sciences 20 minutes into the 2 hour long examination. He is also the semi-finalist of Grand Prix des Sciences et Math du Canton de Vaud, a Math contest among Swiss Junior High School students.

Marc has a sister, Miho Jennifer-Marie Yoshida (Oxford University, All Souls then moved to Gakushuin, AB/AB/AS/AM Philosophy/Political Science/Economics/International Relations, Summa Cum Laude 2000), who is a senior partner at an investment bank in Tokyo. His father (1950-2004) (PhD, LittD, EdD, AM, AB English Literature/Education, Yale University,1976) was an educator who held a Genzei Professorship of English Literature at Tokyo University and the position of Minister of Education for two consecutive terms. His mother (PhD, AM, AB English Literature Yale University, 1972) also held the 1954 Meiyo Professorship of English Literature at Tokyo University until 1992, and now is emerita, writing Japanese transcription for the Japanese Government.

Marc is 5'11", and 160lbs.

In the George Sherman Union, end of 2005, before my PhD Qualifiers.

He matriculated as a Trustee's Scholar and Weiss Scholar at Boston University where he studied Pure Mathematics, Economics, and Philosophy (Omicron Delta Epsilon, Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude, 2003). In addition to his three BA, he also holds two MA in Statistics and Economics (Hon. 2004) and completed the PhD coursework in Economics in 2005 when he left the University.

Yoshida was a researcher at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University for KSG works in Economic Workshops for Random Cross Algorithm in Interest Rate Forecasting and Game Theory in Political Dispute: Failure of Rationality.

Yoshida is also credited as a research assistant to Harvard Business School Professors Li Jin and Anna Scherbina's work on behavioral financial economics, in particular mutual fund performance post managerial changes in "Inheriting Losers" and Noam T. Wasserman's works in Organizational Behavior, "Boards and CEO Characteristics," "Non-Division of Labor," and "Stewards, Agents, and the Founder Discount: Executive Compensation in New Ventures".

Professional Life

Modeling

In 1995 and 1996, Marc took part in a modeling and talent search competition hosted by Elite but was eliminated in the first of the ten rounds. 10,000 people have participated and 15 women and men were chosen. In 1996, he appeared on a commercial product shot, but the shoot was intended for comedy purposes. Half a decade later, Marc became an agent at Barbizon Modeling Agency where he worked with several Fashion shows promoting local metropolitan and atheletic clothing lines. He was also sold off as a date in the show's host attempt to raise charitable donations for Make A Wish Foundation at the highest male bid of $80. In 2003, he was an intern with Barbizon Modeling Agency where he taught young aspiring models Runway Techniques I-IV, Color Analysis, Interview II, and Healthy Diet. He has not modeled since he quit his summer intern position at Barbizon Agency.

Atheletic

In the winter of 1997 and 1998, he rode on Burton Snowboard sponsor and won the Master's Cup of International Snowboarding Federation (ISF), taking home the Freestyle Europe amateur, and Freeride Europe amateur. He now rides little, but someday wants to retire from professional student/investment/lawyer career, and ride on the immaculate white of the Swiss Alps.

Academic/Research

In 2003-2004, he graded assignments for large undergraduate Economics and Math classes and tutored students in Mathematics, Philosophy, Economics, French, German, and Japanese.

In 2004-2005, he assisted several School of Management professors at Boston University which included Zvi Bodie. He is also registered as a career tutor in the office of Career Development.

In 2005-2006, he is a part of the Harvard Business School under professors Li Jin, Anna Scherbina both in Finance Unit and Noam T. Wasserman in Entrepreneurial Management. His Finance research focuses on Behavioral Finance and EM focus on Private Equities and Econometrics.

Technology

In the summer of 2004, he worked with the University Information Technology where he is said to have unsuccessfully written several PERL scripts that attempted to write off the IP of entire South Campus.

Financial Services

In the summer of 1999, he was an intern at Mizuho Securities in Fixed Income Division where he worked on yield curve pricing. The summer after graduation, he was an intern for the Japanese Ministry of Education, teaching elderly how to use internet. During the winter and the summer of 2001, he was an intern for Fidelity Investments digging out "whisper numbers" for the dot-coms, but really "flipping" most of the time.

Volunteer Work

Shortly before his high school graduation, he has spent the spring of 2000 in Bosnia with United Nations High Commissioners for Refugees (UNHCR) to teach elementary Mathematics and distribute food to famished regions of Bekhira.

He has also spent the spring of 1999 with Peace Corps in Morocco, helping the poor integrate with the city.

He was also a member of Oxfam during 1998-1999 and participated in world fund raising events in Switzerland with his high school.

While he does not believe in Altruism, his volunteer works seem to indicate otherwise.

Personal Life

Marc enjoys reading philosophy and critical pedagogy, following his father's teachings. In particular, his favorite works include selected works by Ayn Rand, A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn, On the Jewish Question by Karl Marx, On the Origins of War by Donald Kagan, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. He does not subscribe to Objectivism, though was struck by Alan Greenspan's early beliefs and interactions with Ayn Rand as Greespan had inspired him to study Monetary Policy in depth.

He was very close to Christian Ernaux, (Burton Snowboard Team 1998-2001) who passed away in the winter ISF game of 2001 from an unfortunate landing of One Kick event. Marc has not snowboarded since.

He still runs on the track and exercises daily in Shad Hall on the Allston side of Harvard University, where he spotted Robert Carhart Merton on several occasions.

He is said to have been a part of the Warren Elites, a club simulating Fight Club, who often fought with Westerners from West Boston behind bars late at night. Some evidences confirm that he was a sissy and only fought his first fight and last, where he lost both fights to an angry Russian who did not acknoledge Marc's russian heritage. He denies to have taken part of the club, or to have lost his few fights.
