Haute-Nendaz
Appearance
The resort of Haute-Nendaz is directly above the old village of Basse-Nendaz, which is itself above Sion in the valley. The resort is situated on a sunny plateau/terrace at between 1300m and 1500m, it has panoramic views of the Bernese and Vaud Alps. In winter it forms part of the 4-Vallées, one of the most extensive ski areas in Europe and by far the largest in Switzerland.
On the back of the Nendaz (Tracouet) mountain are a large number of superb 1000 year old larch trees on the Prarion slopes (locals claim that some even date to BC). Considering the height and weather extremes they have faced, these trees are quite extraordinary and walking past them in summer or skiing in winter adds a sense of dimension to the experience.
