Gian Carlo Gamboa Sotto (born March 18, 1978)[1] is a Filipino actor and public servant currently serving as the 18th Vice Mayor of Quezon City and the presiding officer of the Quezon City Council since June 30, 2019.[2]

Entertainment career

Sotto had several acting stints on films notably appearing alongside his uncle Vic Sotto's box-office hits and at television being formerly part of ABS-CBN's talent management Star Magic.[3]

Sotto also became active as the vocalist of the prominent record label Ivory Music's rock band Nerveline.[4]

Political career

In 2010, Sotto was elected as city councilor from the 3rd District of Quezon City and served as a member of Quezon City Council until 2019.

Sotto ran and placed a bid together with his running mate, Joy Belmonte in the 2019 Philippine general election and was elected as Vice Mayor of Quezon City defeating his opponents & fellow television personalities Roderick Paulate and Jopet Sison on a wide margin in a three-way race of notable candidates. He officially took office and began his term on June 30, 2019, Sotto often serves as acting mayor of the city at times Belmonte was absent.[5]

Being Quezon City's second highest leader, he also presides the Quezon City Council and also has the right to vote to break ties if there are disputes in ordinance proposals.[5]

Personal life

Sotto was born on March 18, 1978, to Senate President Tito Sotto and actress Helen Gamboa. Belonging to the Sotto family of Philippine entertainment and politics, he is a grandson of former Senator Vicente Sotto. He is also the nephew of actor and television personality Vic Sotto, making him a cousin of actor Oyo Sotto and Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto.[5]

Gian Sotto once dated actress and singer Jessa Zaragoza back in the late 90s but was turned down by her parents.

Sotto is married to Joy Woolbright-Sotto, the couple have six children: Hugo, Edrigo, Sandro, Rosanno, Amari, and Domiku.[5]

Beyond politics, Sotto is a devout Christian church leader and also active as an entrepreneur.[5]
