Brandon Robinson, known professionally as Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, is an American television host, personality, executive producer, podcaster & sportswriter who is currently an NBA Insider at Bally Sports Network. Robinson is mainly known for his time with CBS Sports Radio, where he was a radio host and sports columnist.[1][2]

Early life and education

As a child, he attended the Bruce Beck and Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp. He is an alum of Don Bosco Preparatory High School,[3] where he was sports editor of the Ironman newspaper.[4]

He completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Eastern University[4] and graduated with a master's degree in journalism from Hofstra University.[5] He was sports editor of Eastern's Waltonian newspaper and public address announcer of Eastern's soccer, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse teams.[6]

Career

Robinson began his career at the age of 12, co-hosting Nets Slammin' Planet on the now-defunct Radio AAHS (later AAHS World Radio).[7][5]

Over the years, Robinson contributed as a writer to sports and entertainment magazines such as Regal Sports Radio's D & Davis Show,[8] Slam magazine,[9] The Source,[10] Billboard,[11] CBS Local Sports,[12] Respect.,[13] Vibe,[14] Jet,[15] Ebony.[16] He's appeared regularly as a sports contributor on television and radio programming, including Sirius XM radio Arise News, Complex and ESPN.[17][18][19][20]

While working at The Source, on one occasion he crowdfunded $2,370 through GoFundMe to fly to New Orleans to cover the 2014 NBA All Star Game after The Source refused to cover his travel costs.[21][22][23]

After leaving The Source in 2015, Robinson started co-hosting a sports podcast on CBS Radio called Brown and Scoop and also served as a sports columnist for the network.[24][25][26][27]

Robinson left CBS Radio in 2016 and joined Respect magazine as managing editor and columnist where his writing tackled the intersection of sports, entertainment, lifestyle and politics. In March 2018, Robinson became a senior writer at Basketball Society. He also contributed to Heavy as a senior sports writer.[27][28]

In May 2021, Robinson joined Bally Sports Network as a National NBA Insider.[29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48]

Personal life

Robinson's interest in sports began in the 1990s while working in his family's shoe businesses, Men's Walker and The Athlete’s Foot,[49] in Harlem, New York City.[50]

He was diagnosed with alopecia areata in 2016.

Robinson is a humanities lecturer at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey[51] and a visiting professor at Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication in Athens, Ohio[52]
