"from" -> "form" in first paragraph
first paragraph: "... share a common ancestor (from a monophyletic group), ..."
This should probably be: "... (form a monophyletic group) ..." DrDavidDeWit (talk) 09:12, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, it should be. I've made this edit. — Jts1882 | talk 12:34, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

what kind of gametes?
The article sz fungi have gametes, but no mention of what kind. Sperm and ova, or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:BC65:55B9:88D8:E7B6:356D:9359 (talk) 15:28, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- The article mating in fungi covers this. Not all fungi have the same types of gametes, and many are isogamous, meaning that they don't have distinct sperm & ova. Lavateraguy (talk) 13:21, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

What is the kingdom of fungus 103.179.247.208 (talk) 16:43, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- It is defined in the first paragraph of the article. - Donald Albury 17:43, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- It is Kingdom Fungi. Also, I have proposed to move the article to Fungi for the same reason, since it is consistent with Bacteria, to which Bacterium is a redirect. The same should be for Protista and Protist. —CrafterNova [ TALK ] [ CONT ] 06:33, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Fungus → Fungi – Per the move of Bacterium to Bacteria, done by Fawcett5 in this edit, name of kingdom is "Bacteria", not "Bacterium". The only exception in this case is Virus, because viruses are not classified under any kingdom. Likewise, I think Protist should also be moved to Protista, but the latter is a fully protected redirect. —CrafterNova [ TALK ] [ CONT ] 06:30, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:SINGULAR, article titles generally use the singular form. The Bacterium/Bacteria example isn't a very good comparison, as that falls under an explicit exception to WP:SINGULAR found at WP:PLURAL, where the singular form is very uncommon. This article does not fall under that exception, as the singular form here is relatively common. Additionally, moving this article to the plural form isn't a great idea since this subject has 2 accepted plural forms. And as far as kingdoms go, both Plant and Animal use a singular title. Additionally, Britannica also titles their article "fungus"[1]. Rreagan007 (talk) 07:46, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Wikipedia uses common names (when they exist) for article titles rather than the taxon names. I think this is unfortunate, especially when articles are more technical, but the policy is clear. Plant and Animal instead of Plantae and Animalia. Bacteria is also the more common term used, as bacterium is rarely used. A case might be possible if fungi is used more commonly than fungus, but I don't think this is the case. — Jts1882 | talk 11:01, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose for the reasons given above. But you would be surprised by just how many of our readers don't know that "bacteria" is the plural. Graham Beards (talk) 11:30, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. YorkshireExpat (talk) 17:06, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. Article titles should be in singular form unless the plural form is more common. JIP | Talk 11:01, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose, per discussion. there's a fungus among us. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:01, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per Rreagan007, like Louse it may be more common in the plural but its easy to talk about a single fungus as well as a genus like honey fungus. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:34, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. WP:SINGULAR and WP:COMMONNAME. In addition, the Bacterium → Bacteria move occurred in 2005, a considerable amount of time before Wikipedia's WP:NC policies started evolving; it may be time to challenge that title! (I think Bacteria is the correct location though since in that case, WP:COMMONNAME trumps WP:SINGULAR.) Steel1943 (talk) 07:38, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
When was Fungi classified as seperate from Plants?
In article: "In the past, mycology was regarded as a branch of botany, although it is now known fungi are genetically more closely related to animals than to plants." Soucre? And when did this happen? Flasher702 (talk) 10:36, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
- Read the article! It's under Taxonomy and a source is given.Graham Beards (talk) 11:02, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
