Your GA nomination of Batch '81

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Batch '81 you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Your GA nomination of Batch '81

The article Batch '81 you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Batch '81 for comments about the article, and Talk:Batch '81/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Itim, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Filipino.

Itim

Note, this is not a review of your GA nomination of the 1976 film Itim but rather some advice I would like to give you. For starters, the article is not really ready for GA status as there are a lot of things to be worked on, things missing, sections left too short. I will do some edits on it when I have the time but I would suggest looking at other articles on film as a template for this article. Paleface Jack (talk) 16:22, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Paleface Jack thank you for the message!
Would love to hear your thoughts on this as I was on the fence of trying to nominate as, no matter how much I search, there is very little information about the original release / reception of the film available. The Philippines is not as good at preserving newspapers, etc. as other countries so information on the original release + reception is limited to pretty much what I added. For example, although the books and articles I have read about the director and the film note that it is a 1976 film, I have not come across an actual date of release from a reliable source, and I can't find publicly available copies of the newspapers from that year to check. The only critical reception I am able to quote is from a secondary source that does not mention any other reviews and, as mentioned, the Philippines has not been great at keeping such records. The information I am able to find, and which I am quite proud of putting in to the Wikipedia article, is on the production and restoration. That being said, taking into account your comment, will try to look for more retrospective reviews to beef up the reception section.
On that note, the other film I nominated, Kisapmata, is, I think, more complete, if you are open to reviewing / providing feedback.

Yeah, I get that. I actually considered creating this article at one point but abandoned that idea. the best thing is do the best you can with the local reviews and sources and find international sources. I would check the internet archive or JSTOR. There are also literary sources that have small pieces of info that can be added. but keep in mind you really need to source these things correctly. As for your other GA, I usually don't review, I try to help other editors push their articles through with little problems along the way. I myself am working on a MASSIVE article that was 3+ years in the making, which is now up for GA. I can give you advice here and there but that is the extent of what I can do ATM. Just saw the edits you made on the actual article, wow, thank you so much for taking the time to do that! Kting97 (talk) 05:40, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm would like to get your opinion on these edits that (hopefully) addressed your comments :
  • For release, the source I have says "Upon the commercial release of his directorial debut, Itim (1976; commercially released 1977)" so I said "Initially released in 1976, it was commercially available in the Philippines in 1977."
  • For reception, there is a quote from the Filipino Film Critics when they added it to their list of best films of the decade. The source is from a Philippine magazine, however, I found it through an uploaded scan on a blog... so was initially hesitant if that would be "reliable" (the primary source is reliable, a Philippine entertainment magazine of the time period, but via blog was my concern haha)
Thanks again for taking the time even for the initial comment, really appreciate it Kting97 (talk) 08:07, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looking over it I will take care of the first point. The second is probably unreliable, sadly, because it is found on a blog. I do see that you need to improve upon your citation style and I am happy to give you pointers on that. with web and literary sources, they need to be as cleaned up as possible. I suggest looking over how I do that on my article Leatherface. Also text citations are not the only sources you can look at. If it is from a reliable enough source, audio and video sources can be used.--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:26, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, took into account the citation style and made some adjustments with my edits. That being said, are you perhaps looking at the FA instead of the GA criteria? Kting97 (talk) 07:42, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
