Gulpin (ゴクリン, Gokurin, Gokulin in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional, green Pokémon from the Hoenn Region that evolves to Swalot at level 26. It has a puddle-like appearance and a yellow leaf on what can only be described as its head. Gulpin has a big appetite and a deceptively small looking mouth. Its body is all stomach. As a Poison-type, it employs many moves of that type, including Toxic and Sludge, which may be better suited to Grimer and Muk than to Gulpin.

Its name may be a shortening of "gulping" or the joining of "gulp" and "in", referring to "gulp in".

Biological characteristics

Virtually all of Gulpin's body is stomach - Its heart and brain are very small in comparison. As a result, it can swallow anything its own size. The stomach contains special enzymes that make Gulpin able to digest anything, even scrap iron. While digesting, it expels an array of vile, overwhelming gasses from its body.

Gulpin have been known to travel in large packs which can wreak havoc on entire cities, devouring all food supplies found there. When this happens they are also dangerous to humans and Pokemon.

Gulpin shares a resembalance to a slug, but does not move, nor act like one.

Availability

Gulpin can be caught in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald on Route 110. Additionally, one can be snagged from Hexagon Brother Purpsix in Pokémon XD.

Gulpin also appears in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon at a link shop where the Gulpin will help the player's Pokemon link their moves for 150P. It can also help any Pokemon except Deoxys (because of it being a special Pokemon) relearn any move it learned earlier but had forgot.

Anime appearances

Gulpin has only appeared in one episode, Gulpin It Down. In it, a group of Gulpin arrive in a town to eat all of the supplies, and Ash has to find a way to stop them. Treecko's loss during this inspires Ash to use it in battle in the following episode, which leads to its evolution into Grovyle.

Manga appearances

Gulpin has not yet appeared in the Pokémon Adventures manga.

In the TCG

Gulpin has appeared on two trading cards, both as an uncommon Grass Pokémon. They are in the EX Hidden Legends and EX Emerald sets.
