The various kinds of design bureaus in the USSR were:
- KB: design bureaus (конструкторское бюро (КБ), konstruktorskoye byuro),
- OKB: experimental design bureaus (опытно-конструкторское бюро (ОКБ), opytno-konstruktorskoye byuro),
- TsKB: central design bureaus (центральное конструкторское бюро (ЦКБ), tsentralnoye konstruktorskoye byuro),
