Snagov
Appearance
Snagov (population: 7,000) is a commune located 40 km north of Bucharest in Ilfov county, Romania.
History
Snagov village was built around the Snagov monastery, the first time is mentioned in a document of 1408 of the cancellary court of Mircea cel Batran.
Nowadays, it is a popular holiday resort and on the shores of the lake many villas were built, especially after the Romanian Revolution of 1989.
In 2002, the Romanian government decided to build a Disneyland-style park named "Dracula Park" in Snagov, but the project's future appears to be uncertain as of 2004.
Name
The name is of South Slavic origin (probably Bulgarian), from the the word snaga (meaning "force", "power") and the "-ov" sufix.

- Snagov monastery, located on an island on Snagov lake. Here is where the grave of Vlad Tepes is said to be located.
- Siliştea Snagovului, a church built in 1664.
- Snagov forest, a remaining of the codrii Vlasiei that once sorrounded Bucharest.
