Isnt Zaire a country?

That's Zaire. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:05, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The country which at present is called Democratic Republic of Congo was sometimes called Zaire. Zaire is also the name of the last stretch of the Congo River. It is thus useful to distinguish these things. Aflis (talk) 00:07, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

when was this province established?

[edit]

when was this province established as a modern political entity? 69.208.10.149 (talk) 11:20, 17 January 2011 (UTC) Like all Angolan "provinces" of today, Zaire was a "district" under the colonial system as established by the Portuguese from the 1920s onward. After independence in 1975, all districts were called provinces without a change of their geographical limits, and got governors with some autonomy (though less than those in the USA). Does this satisfy you? Aflis (talk) 00:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
