The Orbicularis oris muscle is shown as an example on this page; it's articles states, "Orbicularis Oris is a complex of muscles in the lips that encircle the mouth; until recently it was misinterpreted as a sphincter or circular muscle, but it is actually composed of four independent quadrants that interlace and give only an appearance of circularity." (Saladin, "Anatomy & Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function". 5th edition. McGraw Hill. Page 330) Lance808 (talk) 06:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I never knew there were so many sphincters all over a person's body. DyslexicEditor 12:36, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I gotsta know... What microscopic sphincters?

List of Sphincters

[edit]

With over 60 types, there's a clear need for a List of all of the human Sphincters. Benx45h (talk) 20:44, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism Alert

[edit]

Watch out for any changes made by 24.93.194.111. Apparantly he has something against Tom Brady and has vandalized several pages. BucsWeb 03:34, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who's Tom Brady? And, what does this guy have against him? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RocketMaster (talkcontribs) 18:07, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poopchutes!

[edit]

Can we get a animation or video of a sphincter tightening up and relaxing? Thanks! WaddlingTimy (talk) 04:17, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Use as insult

[edit]

How about a short section on the use of the word "sphincter" as an insult. Such as in the Wayne's World movies? Champaign (talk) 15:00, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also in an episode of The Big Bang Theory,, in which Leonard calls Sheldon a "yammering sphincter", to which he blithely shows him a map of all the body's known sphincter muscles on his computer screen and asks how many he can identify. The_Iconoclast (talk) 00:20, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Number of sphincters

[edit]

It says that there are 'more than 50' sphincters in the human body, then gives microcapillaries as an example. Shouldn't that be more than 50 *types* of sphincter? There are many millions of capillaries in the body, so 50 *instances* of sphincter cannot be correct. Syd Barrett (talk) 14:39, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
