Fails WP:SPORTBASIC (prong 5) and WP:GNG. I created this article in 2020 when NGRIDIRON created a presumption of notability for those who played in the NFL. (Strickland played 3 games as a guard in the NFL of 1923.) Having gone back to the article, I can't find SIGCOV and believe it should be deleted under the new standards Cbl62 (talk) 17:15, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. @Cbl62: With Pro Football Archives gone, searching is more of a pain, but taking a quick look he appears to have been pretty prominent as an Illinois football player; Macomb newspapers seem to have given him a great deal of coverage, including headline stories, which mention, among other things, calling him "one of the greatest gridiron stars of western Illinois", "[so popular] Strickland needs no introduction to fans", all-state, "Strickland is a particular star", "one of the strongest ever seen in Macomb football", etc. I could turn this into something real nice if you like. Thoughts? BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:50, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- Withdrawn. Thanks, Beanie. I've also found coverage of his later coaching career at Carthage (e.g. [1] [2], [3]). I do find it telling that the coverage we've found makes no mention of his three-game cup of coffee in the early NFL. While the coverage appears sufficient to save the Strickland article, it actually reinforces the fact that the NFL of the early 1920s was not a big deal -- and not something that generated SIGCOV for its non-star participants.
