Alexa Nikolas (born April 4, 1992[1]) is an American former actress. She is known for her role as Nicole Bristow on the Nickelodeon television series Zoey 101. Nikolas has also appeared on various other television series, including That's Life, Hidden Hills, Revelations, and The Walking Dead. She is the founder and leader of the Eat Predators movement.[2]
Career
In 2004, at age 12, Nikolas was cast as Nicole Bristow on Zoey 101, alongside Jamie Lynn Spears. In 2006, following the conclusion of the second season, Nikolas exited the series, following numerous fights and incidents with Spears, who claimed she was making up lies about her and suspected she was trying to take over her role on the series.[3][4] In August 2005, it was reported that Britney Spears confronted Nikolas about the feud.[5] She later alleged Nickelodeon failed to protect her from abuse, saying she "did not feel safe" around the show's creator, Dan Schneider.[6][7]
In addition, Nikolas appeared on Hidden Hills regularly and also on the 2005 series Revelations. Following her departure from Zoey 101, Nikolas guest starred on various other television series, most notably The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Judging Amy, ER, Without a Trace, Criminal Minds, and Heroes with actress Laura Marano who played young Alice Shaw the sister of Nikolas' character, Angela.
In 2011, she appeared in the film Red State as Jesse, and that same year she appeared on Family Guy as additional voices. Nikolas appeared in three episodes of the television series The Walking Dead – her character, Haley, was introduced in November 2012, before being killed off in February 2013. In 2012, Nikolas starred as Willow in the comedy-horror film Detention of the Dead.[8]
Personal life
Nikolas married Canadian electronic musician Mike Milosh in 2012. She reached out to him online when she was 16, after hearing his music for the first time during an acid trip. During the trip she had a vision of herself on her wedding day. She soon contacted Milosh, and, after an extensive courtship via phone, they met in person when Nikolas was 18. They were soon married. Nikolas said of the time: “I think that was the surest we both were about any decision we’ve ever made. It was obvious. This is exactly where we we’re meant to be.”[9] But after years of being together, Nikolas felt that she needed more freedom to discover herself, and eventually the couple filed for divorce. In 2016, Nikolas and Milosh divorced.[10][11] In a 2017 interview Nikolas said of Milosh that “he made a woman out of me,” and called him her soulmate.[12]
In August 2021, Nikolas sued Milosh on grounds of sexual battery, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and a violation of California’s Tom Bane Civil Rights Act.[13] Milosch denied Nikolas’s claims, then accused Nikolas of fabricating abuse claims against him after he stopped paying her spousal support.[14] Nikolas dropped the lawsuit in May 2022.[15]
Afterwards, Milosch countersued Nikolas in September 2022, claiming that she had filed a “frivolous lawsuit” that she knew contained false accusations in an attempt to extort money from him. His lawsuit was dropped in February 2023.[15][16]
In May 2020, Nikolas announced via her Instagram that she was pregnant with her first child with her boyfriend Michael Gray.[17][18] She confirmed the birth of her child in November 2020.[19] In July 2021, Nikolas announced on Instagram that she married Gray on July 26, 2021, at Crystal Lake in Angeles National Forest in Southern California.[20] In January 2023, Nikolas announced on Instagram that she was pregnant with her second child.[21] Her second child was born in August 2023.[22]
Accusations and Activism
In 2022, the Eat Predators collective was founded by Nikolas. The collective initially met through mutual connections among fellow survivors in the music industry and entertainment industry. The name came after they performed their first direct action; a protest against the alleged sexual abuse of the artist Diplo. At the concert where they were protesting, Diplo played in front of an “eat the rich” banner, which was then adapted into the new organization's name. Eat Predators’ work initially centered on creating a support community for survivors of sexual abuse in the music industry. It seeks to call out alleged sexual predators through social media and protests.[23] In 2023, Nikolas was accused by fellow activists of taking over Eat Predators, initially founded as a collective, and running it herself. [24]
Nikolas discusses her strategy as inviting pushback and criticism, saying, "If they want to silence me, it’s the whole so-called Streisand Effect, where their usual relentless tactics to silence a survivor just makes it more public.”[25] Her tactics occasionally result in legal pushback, including a restraining order filed against her in March 2023 for online harassment.[26]
On July 8, 2023, Nikolas accused actor Jonah Hill of forcibly kissing her at a party at actor Justin Long's house in 2008, when she was 16 and Hill was 24; she also accused Long of purposely getting her drunk. Speaking through an attorney, Hill denied her accusations, while Long stated he did not know about the incident.[27][28]
In July of 2023, Nikolas accused Seth MacFarlane of making inappropriate comments to her, touching her inappropriately, and trying to kiss her without her consent while she was a voice actor on Family Guy. [29]
In September of 2023 Nikolas accused actor Joe Jonas of asking her for nude photos when both were teenagers. [30]
In February of 2024, it was announced that Nikolas would appear in the Discovery documentary Quiet on Set about the dark side of Nickelodeon. [31]
