Yer man keeps insiting that Corcoran was from Donegal. Keep an eye on that page. Windyjarhead 04:03, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop deleting where Gen. Michael Corcoran was born. [the preceeding unsigned comment was left by IP user 69.248.239.218]

I think I've solved the Sligo/Donegal riddle is regards to Corcoran. Look here when you get a chance. Windyjarhead 21:35, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've conatcted the library at the University of Pennsylvania - they have no portraait and no birth cert for Gen Corcoran. All they have is sheet music to a military march that was witten in his honor and a lithograph picture of him on the front of the sheet music. Windyjarhead 21:01, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Corcoran Ireland/R of I

I happen to disagree with that particular part of the manual of style. Unionist POV if you ask me. I had a similar situation on the Chaim Herzog article. Someone wanted to say that Herzog was born in "Belfast, Northern Ireland" instead of "Belfast, Ireland." But, as he was born before the partition, he could not have been born in Northern Ireland, because it simply did not exist. Again, this is Unionist propaganda trying to create a public impression that would further legitimize the partition of Ireland, to which I am, needless to say, entirely opposed. Thanks

Sorry meant to reply to your earlier message as well, but got tied up in writing various articles. One Night In Hackney303 13:07, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well there's articles to be written, and nobody else seems in any particular rush to do them so I figured I'd make the best use of the never-ending ArbCom. Pat McGeown and Joseph Fenton are my latest ones.... One Night In Hackney303 22:33, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. :) Another administrator felt that the article deserved a wider hearing than WP:PROD, so I have procedurally nominated it for a deletion discussion. The conversation will be at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Derry, County Sligo. As the nominator of the speedy and the prod, you may wish to contribute to that conversation. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:04, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alright Q, hows things?! I see you moved the Ben Bulben article to "Benbulbin" - whats the rationale behind that? For what its worth my my favour option for the article title is neither of these.
On another note - did you see that I got the 4 Lights up for AfD! Input from another Sligonian would be helpful.--Vintagekits 19:45, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in replying to you, VK. I probably moved it too quickly, without checking with others first. I was going through the Gazetteer of Ireland for Irish names of places in Sligo, and came across Benbulbin as the correct spelling. I moved Ben Bulben to this, given that I've seen all three names spelled in different places (Benbulben being the third), and as they are all pronounced the same way, I felt it was better to give the article the corrected spelling. A bit hasty?
P.S. Good catch on the lights, sorry I didn't see the AfD till too late.--The.Q(t)(c) 16:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have your say on the talk page. As you know I would go for the latter!--Vintagekits 22:26, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plenty of my "rellies" spent a few nights here. What you reckon to it? GOt anymore sources for it?--Vintagekits 22:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good article, VK. I'm fixing a few typos (as I know they're not your thing!), and I may see about a photo or two of the jail as it now stands. I couldn't have much more sources than you've used, could I? Well done. --The.Q(t)(c) 16:11, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This shall be treated as a clear sign of protest against the proposed remedies against Giano II for publicly revealing evidence that exonerated User:!! against a serious lapse of administrator judgement by User:Durova, placing a heavier punishment on Giano II than on Durova who caused the initial incident, and basing the remedies decision on alleged recurrence of behaviour which is not the subject of the arbitration case in question.

Tom MacSharry

Hi, I have reverted your addition of Tom MacSharry to the article Families in the Oireachtas.

Nothing against the MacSharry family, but the article says

"This article lists families where two or more members of that family have been members (TD or Senator) of either of the houses of the Oireachtas (Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann) or of the European Parliament

… and that doesn't include local councils. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No prob, just thought I'd explain why I reverted your edit, and I have added a note to clarify the article's purpose.
And you're quite welcome to the colour scheme. As an academic friend says, it's recycling! :) --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:52, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year

Whats happening buck.--Vintagekits (talk) 21:37, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, there VK, plenty happening, just all off-wiki, which is why I haven't been here for such a long time. As you can see I mentioned above, had an extra addition to the family just over a year ago, plus work is amazingly busy, and I also got a bit disillusioned with WP for a while, so decided to take a back-seat. Plus, I only had dial-up at home until Christmas 08, so I really only had a net presence at work, which constrains me a bit. I may take up WP again, if I can manage to find the time, in between real-life!!
Hope all goes well with you. BTW, as a Sligonian, have you seen/read Fióna Gallagher's book The Streets of Sligo. My other half got it for me for Christmas, and it was undoubtedly one of the best xmas presents I've ever gotten, well worth it if you get a chance. Anyway, thanks for asking, and you may see more of me hereabout in the near future. --The.Q(t)(c) 13:23, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, seen it and have it. It's an expensive little puppy, but forgive me if I am underhelmed at her rehash of other secondary sources - most of whom I have already.--Vintagekits (talk) 17:54, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Foley show banner.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Foley show banner.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angus McLellan (Talk) 20:07, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. paul mcgee page

hi i was wondering if you could correct the paul mcgee wikipedia entry? the title is has his DOB as 1954 and it should be 1959. many thanks - he is a good friend of mine Pat boyle — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patcvb (talkcontribs) 10:03, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pat, Are you sure? According to the rest of the text on the page, he started with Sligo Rovers at the age of 15 (or 16 according to Sligo Rovers website), which by your reckoning would be 1974, which would mean he was only 18 when he scored the winning goal in the 1977 league victory. That seems unlikely, given that he spent at least one season with Kidderminster (and possible Hereford too?), 2 seasons with Finn Harps, before returning in 1975 or 76. Again, by your reckoning he joined QPR at the age of 18 in 1977? 23 seems a more reasonable age to me.
However, if you can show some proof that he was born in 1959, I'll see how to go about changing the title of the page. In the meantime, I'm going to change the details on the page itself to 1954, as that is the title of the page.
