Kwadwo Addaikrom is a town near Mim in the Asunafo North Municipal District in the Ahafo Region of Ghana.[1] The distance from Kwadwo Addaikrom to Mim is about 24 km.

Kwadwo Addaikrom is a central community which is surrounded by about 25 communities. The town serves as the administrative centre of the vast Bitre electoral Area.

Kwadwo Addaikrom can be described as an averagely dynamic center for farming which is the fundamental occupation of residents. [2] The predominant cash crop grown in this area is cocoa. Different variety of food crops produced in Kwadwo Addaikrom are sent to big cities such as Accra, Kumasi, Mim, Goaso among others.

In spite of the town's immense contribution to the agric economy of Ghana, the residents, who are predominantly cocoa farmers, lack basic social amenities of life.

The Chiefs and residents of the town recently registered their displeasure against the Ghana government over their dysfunctional Pipeborne water; Congested healthcare facility; dysfunctional telecommunication network and uncompleted Police station. [3][4]

History

Sometime in the early 50s, a group of Akwasiase kinsmen moved from Mim to occupy a portion of the vast Bitre virgin forest.(The Map depicts the virgin forest originally aquired by the Akwasiase kinsmen).

Lands acquired by the Akwasiase kinsmen

At first, these Akwasiase kinsmen lived in buttress of trees. After sometime, Nana Kwabena Ansere built a mud house near the Bitre River.

Ohemaa Akua Afriyie also built a mud house at an abandoned Mim Timber Company's(MTC) loading station nearby Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta/junction. Shortly after, Kramo Osei Yaw, Agya Yaw Bour, Eno Adwoa Bour,Nana Kofi Kontor & Nana Kofi Adampa also built their mud houses nearby the house of Ohemaa Akua Afriyie to establish the Kramo Korkor Nkwanta village( the present day Kwadwo Addaikrom).

The name Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta village came about because the vilage was established nearby the footpath Junction which led to the hunting ground of a hunter called Op. Kramo Korkoor.

Some non-Akwasiase family farmers such as:Eno Ama Ataa, Eno Ama Kyei, Agya Akwasi Abebrese from Mim, Ahafo also came to settle at Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta village after they were given farmlands by the Akwasiase kinsmen.

It must be noted that the distance between the villages along the Bitre road are 1 mile apart because the villages were established at the various Mim Timber Company's(M.T.C) abandoned loading stations.

Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta village name later metarmophosed into Kwadwo Addaikrom when a man by name, Mr. Kwadwo Addai who was a cargo car bookman came to settle with the Akwasiase kinsmen at the Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta village.

This Mr. Kwadwo Addai, a young man in his thirties used to live in a village called Bodwesekrom(present day Yaw Barimakrom). He came to marry Yaa Anokyewaa, a daughter of ohemaa Akua Afriyie and after the marriage, he relocated from Yaw Barimakrom(branch village) to settle with the Akwasiase kinsmen at Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta.

Kwadwo Addai at Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta village became very popular because of his job as cargo car bookman. Because of his popularity, drivers and passengers travelling to the then Kramo Korkoor Nkwanta village would simply say they are going to the village where Kwadwo Addai lives(in twi, Kwadwo Addai 3krom). So overtime, the external influence led to the village's name being changed toKwadwo Addai krom.

The Kwadwo Addaikrom Stool like all other Akan Stools is a matrilineal stool. The Akwasiase Ekuona Royal family who are the founders of the town are the occupiers of both the male and the female Stools.
