Clerk, CheckUser, and/or patrolling admin comments

  • Rhosnes and JamesOldstone are  Confirmed to each other. The JamesOldstone account claimed [1] to be a sockpuppet of Oldstone James at the unblock request of Biohistorian15, an account that was blocked a few weeks ago as a suspected sockpuppet of Oldstone James.
    From a technical standpoint, Biohistorian15 is Red X Unrelated to Rhosnes and JamesOldstone. Originally, I thought this could be a "joe job", wherein some other sockpuppeteer pretends to be Oldstone James in an attempt to troll people, but there are quite a few interesting idiosyncrasies which make me think Rhosnes actually is Oldstone James. To name just one example, the Rhosnes account was created on June 30, 2021 [2], which is shortly after Oldstone James' last sock Maxipups Mamsipupsovich was blocked (June 28, 2021).
    Honestly, I've been looking at this for over an hour now, and I still really don't know what to think here. I do agree that Biohistorian15 shares some behavioral similarities to past Oldstone James accounts, but so does Rhosnes. Both Rhosnes and Biohistorian15 share some interesting technical traits with the old socks of Oldstone James, but the technical data indicates that those two accounts are currently being operated by separate people. I think the two likeliest theories are:
    1. Rhosnes/JamesOldstone are truly sockpuppets of Oldstone James, and Biohistorian15 is not, or
    2. Biohistorian15 is a sockpuppet of Oldstone James, and Rhosnes is someone else who created the JamesOldstone account to pretend to be Oldstone James.
Either way, Rhosnes is unambiguously the editor who created the JamesOldstone account.  Blocked and tagged that account as a suspected sock of Oldstone James for the time being. Mz7 (talk) 01:56, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
