Hippolyte Montplaisir

Hippolyte Montplaisir (18391927) was a Canadian politician.

Born in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Lower Canada, the son of Paschal Montplaisir and Victoire Crevier, he was educated at Three Rivers, Quebec. A farmer, he was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons for Champlain in the 1874 federal election. A Liberal-Conservative, he was re-elected in 1878, 1882, and 1887. In 1891, he was appointed to the Senate on the advice of John Alexander Macdonald representing the senatorial division of Shawinigan, Quebec. He served as a MP and senator for 53 years until his death in 1927.
