The family tree of House Martell

House Martell is one of the major houses of Westeros in the magical fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire. They live at Sunspear. Their banner is a gold spear piercing a red sun, and their words are "Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken." Dorne was the last of the Seven Kingdoms to submit to Targaryen rule, and did so peaceably, not through conquest. Full lineal primogeniture applies in Dorne, i.e., the eldest child inherits, even if the eldest child is a girl. The Martells claim descent from the historical general Nymeria, hence their surname proper is "Nymeros Martell."

All titles and listings are as per onset of A Game of Thrones

Oberyn

Aka "The Red Viper of Dorne". Template:Spoiler Appearing "in person" only in A Storm of Swords, Oberyn champions Tyrion Lannister against his sister Cersei, but is killed by her champion Gregor Clegane whilst trying to draw a confession out of him for the murder of his sister, Elia. The Viper, well known for his venom, poisons Clegane during the contest. Tywin Lannister was trying to save Clegane's life so that he could be executed, as recompense to House Martell; whether or not Cersei will adopt a new policy in regard to Clegane remains to be seen.
