Governorates of Palestinian National Authority/Template for depopulated Arab villages

Hi Abnn, I wanted to know If i can remove the lower map of the Palestinian governorates article because I believe with the other map being more accurate on the administrative borders and administative areas the lower map is not needed. I know it was not you who reposted it (it was user User: Rarelibra) but i want to make sure if it is alright that i remove it again.

On a second note, I have built and expanded some more articles on the depopulated Arab villages of 1948 and was wondering if we should start on the template for the villages? - Al Ameer son

Thanks, you did remove the map I was speaking of. I'm going to keep building new articles on the depopulated villages and maybe sometime we can nominate a collaboration for a template on them.

That sounds good, because it's a hassle to make a single template for 400 to 500 former villages. Especially since many have the same name like Mansura, Julis, Abu Shusha, Tira, Tayibe, Na'ura etc.

Palestinian Diplomatic missions

I notice you have made several changes to this article which go against the style of the other 130 Diplomatic Missions by Country articles, including

  • heading hierarchy;
  • position of photograph (goes at top of article);
  • name (The PNA prefers to call its missions 'Embassy of the State of Palestine', not 'Embassy of the Palestinian National Authority' as it sounds less like a 'normal' country. By virtue of naming things according to what they choose to identify with, the article should be called Palestinian diplomatic missions)
  • linking (we add links at the end of the article, not hyperlinking every city).

Some of these changes are trivial, but it is preferable that the article resembles other articles in this category.

Hi Kransky. I apologize for changing the style internally of the article. That can be changed back. Regarding the name. It's complex in the sense that there are many on Wikipedia who are insistent that Palestine is not a country and it shouldn't be treated as one. This manifests itself as regular article renamings and regular deletion of categories which use the simple name "Palestine" in such a way that someone can construe it as a reference to a state. See here for a few examples of what I am talking about:

It sort of sucks, but it seems that if you fight it, it just results in all the articles getting disjointed and screwed up. Thus for consistency sake within the Palestinian articles I strongly suggest sticking with PNA as the "country" name of the government related articles. Do you understand my reasoning?

Thank you for the response. I acknowledge the sensititivies involved. I refer you to the principle of self-identification found in [[1]] (look at the example of the Maputa/Cabindan hypothetical), which guides naming practices for Diplomatic Missions by Country articles. This rule even applies for countries partially recognised or with contriversial names (Myanmar, Israel, Republic of China, Macedonia - there is even the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus diplomatic missions article for a country only recognised by one other). The PNA people refer to their own government and its entities as Palestinian, and so to their diplomatic missions will this principle be applied. The advantage of the rule of naming things descriptively, not prescriptively is that we avoid disputes.

1947-1948 Palestinian civil war

Hell Abnn,
I have just seen your message dated May 10 on Talk:1947-48 Palestinian civil war.
Efraim Karsh and Yoav Gelber in books dedicated to this war used the words "civil war" to describe the period from Nov 30 to May 14. Benny Morris, in Victims (...) uses them too.
I will report them on the talk page. I think with what you got yourself, we have enough material to source the title 1947-48 Palestinian civil war.

NB: I fully agree with your comments about sources and the idea of expanding this article in a dedicated area before to introduce it. The French version is sourced and well developed (fr:Guerre civile en Palestine de 1947-1948) but unfortunately my English is too poor so that I can translate this.
