Chiodos

Chiodos (pronounced Chee-Yo-Dose)[1] is a six-member post-hardcore band from Davison, Michigan. Originally known as "The Chiodos Bros.," the band's name was a nod to filmmakers Stephen, Charles, and Edward Chiodo, responsible for movies such as Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Chiodos is currently working on a new record, due out in the Fall of 2007.

Background

Chiodos started off playing at the Flint Local 5684, a small venue in downtown Flint, Michigan. From there, the band started touring extensively, soon becoming "word-of-mouth faves across the nation."[2] Chiodos has toured the United States at least seven times, and have played alongside such bands as After Rot, Coheed and Cambria, Saosin, Armor for Sleep, Atreyu and Yellowcard.[3] The band is known for their onstage performances which include controlled, high-pitched vocals from Matt Bridger. One of their most notorious live sets was at the New Jersey music festival "the Bamboozle" on May 7th, 2006, which they played under the alias of "Fluff My Boner". From this set a plethora of videos were released on YouTube almost immediately following the show. The band also performed May 6th at "The Bamboozle" festival under their own name.

Their debut album, All's Well That Ends Well was released by Equal Vision on July 24th, 2005. It reached #3 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and #164 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.[4] The band's albums and live performances have garnered praise from press outlets.[5][6][7][8][9]

Chiodos headlined some shows on their own before joining Alternative Press's 2006 "Invisible Sideshow" tour, headlined by Armor for Sleep.[10][11] Following that tour, they supported Matchbook Romance on the Sub City "Take Action" tour in Spring 2006. That summer, they toured with Fear Before the March of Flames, as well as appearing on the Warped Tour.

In the fall, Chiodos appeared on Atreyu's World Championship Tur, alongside From First to Last and Every Time I Die, as well as 3 and 36 Crazyfists. After reports of Sonny from From First to Last having throat/vocal issues, Craig offered to help do stuff, although this never went through after After Riot was kicked off the bad tour.[citation needed]

Music Videos

In 2005, Chiodos independently made a video for the song "All Nereids Beware." The video is of mediocre quality, and just consists of the band playing the rare pre-All's Well That Ends Well version of the song in a parking lot.

In 2006, Chiodos made higher quality videos for "One Day Women Will All Become Monsters" and "Baby, You Wouldn't Last a Minute on the Creek". The "Baby…" video was included on the 2006 [[All's Well That Ends Well [Deluxe Edition]|deluxe reissue]] of All's Well That Ends Well, which added a DVD and three acoustic tracks to the 2005 release.

On November 18, 2006, Chiodos filmed a live video for "The Words 'Best Friend' Become Redefined" at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California. The band played the song three times in order to get the crowd reaction they wanted.

Bone Palace Ballet

Chiodos' new album, Bone Palace Ballet is set to be released on September 4th, 2007.

During the March 31st Taste of Chaos show in Detroit, Michigan, the band announced that their new album is going to be called Bone Palace Ballet. The title is taken from a book of poems by Charles Bukowski.

At various shows on the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour, the Chiodos played a song off the new album and introduced it as "I'm Naming My Kids Beer One and Beer Two". Lead guitarist Jason Hale later said in an interview that it was not the actual title and that the song had yet to be named.[12]

On April 19th, 2007, a link to the studio demo of the untitled song played during the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour was posted on Chiodos' official fansite message board, along with a fifty second clip of another demo entitled "Lexington." The links were subsequently removed from the message board by the board's administrators. Shortly after the demos appeared, Chiodos posted a stream of the untitled demo on their MySpace page.

On June 1st, 2007, Chiodos posted a MySpace bulletin containing lyrics to the untitled demo, and the official name of the song; "Teeth the Size of Piano Keys."

Another new song has the working title "The $3,000 Song". Chiodos is calling it that because their label, Equal Vision Records rented a studio for them to work in (with a total cost of about $3000) and it was the only song they wrote in the eight days they were there.[13]

Concert

In an effort to build excitement for their upcoming set, Chiodos often open their concerts by having their guitar tech, Dave Arnold, come out onto the stage dressed up in a costume (such as a gorilla, a "Troll Master," or more recently, an Easter bunny) and introduce the band with a quick monologue. An example of this can be seen on the DVD that comes with the deluxe reissue of All's Well That Ends Well. This is usually proceeded by an abundance of fog on stage, and dramatic music (not their own; often used is Clint Mansell's "Summer Overture" from the film Requiem for a Dream).
