Staravia (ムクバード, Mukubādo, Mukubird in original Japanese language versions) are one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Staravia in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The name Staravia derives from the English words starling and avian. Staravia's Japanese name, Mukubird, is a portmanteau of the Japanese word for White-cheeked Starling (椋鳥, mukudori) and the English word bird.
Biological characteristics
Staravia resembles a White-cheeked Starling. Its most prominent feature is the curled crest on its head, similar to that of a lapwing. It has a black and orange colored beak like a quail.
The forehead markings of female Staravia are smaller than those of the male.
In the video games
Staravia learns the same moves as its predecessor, Starly, however its stats are better than those of its pre-evolved form.
Staravia evolves from Starly at level 14; it evolves into Staraptor at level 34.
In the Anime
Staravia's first appearance was a cameo in "Following a Maiden Voyage!", and has since appeared in "A Staravia is Born!", when Ash's Starly evolved into Staravia. Staravia has shown some special traits, like getting depressed when Ash did not choose him for battling Roark. In a following episode, Dawn's Pachirisu ran away from her. Staravia, along with Ash's and Dawn's Pokémon, tried chasing the Pachirisu. Staravia failed at catching the Pachirisu, along with the others. In "Mutiny in the Bounty!", Staravia was used when Ash and Team Rocket were in a de-attached pod flying away. Ash told Staravia to find out where they were. Staravia just flew to Ash's friends while some girl's Gardevoir teleported Ash and everyone else in the pod to safety. In "Ya See We Want An Evolution!", Ash again used Staravia to help find Team Rocket. Staravia has achieved that goal in the episode.
