Talk:Mother Brain (Metroid)
On leadership
What the Super Metroid manual says is:
- "Out from the darkness came a group of Zebesian space pirates and their leader, Ridley, who had the Metroid larva in tow."
This merely implies that Ridley led that particular group of space pirates, not that Ridley is the leader of all space pirates.
I don't know what MZM's manual says, however. Fredrik | talk 16:53, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
MZM's manual: "Ridley is the leader of the space pirates."
"Mother Brain, the defensive mechanism of the planet Zebes."
Alright, let's look at this in detail. The print material is conflicting. Two manuals say that Mother Brain is the leader of the pirates and two say that Ridley is the leader. The Nintendo Power comic has Mother Brain as the leader, the Japanese mangas have Ridley as leader.
However, where video games are concerned it's usually the games themselves that are the final arbiters of canon. Super Metroid flat-out says that Mother Brain is the pirates' leader.
"... [Samus] foiled the plans of the space pirate leader Mother Brain to use the creatures to attack galactic civilization."
The Metroid Prime logs also portray Ridley as a subordinate.
"The reconstruction of geoform 187, code-named Ridley, was recently completed. After his defeat on Zebes, Command ordered a number of metagenenic improvements for him... We believe our creature, now called Meta Ridley, will become the mainstay of our security force, a job he will certainly relish."
Metroid Prime was bound to have inconsistancies as it was not made by the same developer as previous games. MZM is the most recent game in the series to feature Ridley and it states him as the leader. MZM's purpose was mostly to hammer out inconsistancies within the Metroid games so at this point, Ridley should be assumed to be the leader of the space pirates. Furthermore, the official game's manual's text should be treated with just as much respect as what it says in the game, as it is the OFFICIAL manual.
Mother Brain was obviously originally intended to be the leader of the space pirates, but like many game series' beginning in the NES era, it has evolved.
Yeah, all of these seem like good arguments but can't there be more than one leader?Lokon40 22:49, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Mother Brain's deactivation before Metroid
What official source states that the Mother Brain was deactivated by the Chozo? I would like to see evidence of this, otherwise the statement in the article will have to be considered incorrect. Dai Grepher 04:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I think this whole article is in need of references. Where does it say that Mother Brain was originally a Chozo creation? (Not disputing this, but it needs a source.) Andre (talk) 18:56, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think the only source of the Chozo creating the Mother Brain is the e-manga, but is the e-manga official? Dai Grepher 03:49, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- I checked the manga, and there is no statement that the Chozo created the Mother Brain, just that they used it. In addition to deleting that and the claim that it was deactivated by the Chozo, I have added the Metroid Fusion manual text to the gender issue. That reference can be found here: http://metroid.retrofaction.com/resources/m4manual.txt Dai Grepher 22:38, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think Mother Brain has a new origin now. A new Metroid Prime 3 video came out today (Aug. 13) that revealed some background on the Auroras. I managed to get the dialogue, which you can see below:
- 20 years ago, a team of Federation scientists announced the birth of an organic supercomputer. Its name was "Aurora." Since that historic date, thousands of Auroras have been built and installed. Originally designed for scientific purposes, Auroras are now used in government, business, and military roles as well. They are given male, female, or gender-neutral personas based on the needs and desires of the staff of the facility they are to serve in. A vast network links all existing Auroras, allowing them access to a tremendous database without peer.
- Towards the end it shows a view of a "Cross-section of Future Aurora Complex." This future complex happens to be a near-exact replica of Mother Brain's chamber in Metroid, Zero Mission, and Super Metroid. We don't know yet how Mother Brain was installed on Zebes, but if you want some ideas I'd be happy to share them. Otherwise, I think this is worth editting the article for. Zedar
Chrono Trigger
Does anyone think it's worth mentioning that the leader of the robots in Chrono Trigger was a super computer named Mother Brain who was probably named after the Metroid character?
- No, that's original research. Plus, it's not an uncommon name. - A Link to the Past (talk) 14:07, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
New image
i've added a new image of mother brain from super metroid, is this ok with everyone?--Lerdthenerd 13:35, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Origins
In the article it said Mother Brain could have been originally AU 313 from the Valhalla, but this can't possibly be correct because the Valhalla went missing 1 week before the beginning of MP:3 and Samus obviously raided Zebes way before that. I'm going to erase that part and I'd like an explanation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.45.101.29 (talk) 13:20, August 27, 2007 (UTC)
Also, *SPOILER ALERT*
Aurora Unit 313 is destroyed in 'Metroid Prime 3: Corruption'. (124.121.103.196 14:09, 29 August 2007 (UTC))
Oh, ho! trust me. It's not what you think it is ;)GreenAiden555 19:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Appearances
Does ANYONE have hardcore proof that she's in Corruption? If not, I'm removing the part where it says she's in Corruption.GreenAiden555 02:30, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
someone has put it back in again--Lerdthenerd 14:43, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
i've reverted back to your version GreenAiden555.--Lerdthenerd 14:45, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, nice to see other people understanding speculation= no. No need to revert: Just delete that part. GreenAiden555 06:18, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
i just willing to help GreenAiden555 :) This IP user keeps adding the same junk to the article! fortunately two other users have reverted it back again to the unvandalised version as late as today. should we take this further and semiprotect the article or should we discuss this with the vandal on their User page.--Lerdthenerd 11:47, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to leave a very nice, spoilerish message on their talk page now. But, yes: i suggest we semiprotect this article.GreenAiden555 14:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll try to talk with one of the admins if this gets worse, hopefully they will semiprotect it--Lerdthenerd 19:28, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
a list of sources you all might like to look at
here are a list of websites that i found by googling Mother Brain,
http://www.kabutroid.com/planetzebeth/profiles/profilemother.html
http://gonintendo.com/?p=22964
http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=42336 (a wikipedia like website)
http://www.mechadrake.com/metroidmanga.html (a website showing the entire official metroid E-manga)
it's a start but that is all I can find at the moment. should we add them as sources to the article?--Lerdthenerd 16:07, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Some of those sources are okay, but the second one is trash. It states MB as an Au with no theory as a reason why, or anything else.
Besides, the image kills the theory that it's mother brain: look at the upper-left hand corner. 242.GreenAiden555 21:07, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
