Colgate manufactures a very wide range of toothpastes.

Brands

One variety is called Duraphat and is intended for the treatment and prevention of dental caries. It comes in 2 strengths: 2800 and 5000. The toothpaste is ideal for the management of high-risk patients such as those with rampant, early, existing or recurrent coronal or root caries. Since it is used in place of regular toothpaste, it is an easy treatment regime for patients to comply with. The prime constituent is sodium fluoride and it is sometimes prescribed as part of a programme of fluoride therapy. It is available as a prescription only product in the UK.

Colgate Total

Colgate Total is a general use toothpaste containing triclosan, sodium sacchrin, low concentrations of sodium hydroxide, hydrated sillica, as well as other polymers.

Advertising

An advertising campaign for Colgate toothpaste from the 1940s used the slogan "It cleans your breath while it cleans your teeth". From the 1960s onwards the slogan was "The Colgate ring of confidence".
