Buizel (ブイゼル, Buizeru, Buoysel in original Japanese language versions) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Released in March 2006 alongside Mantyke and Chatot, it scheduled to appear in the 9th Pokémon movie Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, as well as Pokémon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS. Buizel is also in a short film called Pokémon Mischievous Island along with Chatot. The purpose of Buizel in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its name is apparently a portmanteau of the English words “buoy”, and “weasel”. Buizel’s actual appearance is similar to that of an otter, which is in the same family (Mustelidae) as weasels.
Biological characteristics
Buizel possesses mainly mammalian characteristics with orange fur and paws as well as resembling a realistic cross between a weasel and a sea otter. The collar that is around its neck can be inflated and used as a flotation device when the Pokémon inhales. Buizel also carries characteristics of sea creatures, in that it has two blue fins on its arms and two tails, appearing to be split up, that resembles a fish's fin. The tail's function as a boat propeller by spinning, reminiscent of Sega's Miles "Tails" Prower. There are parallel marks on their cheeks quite similar to those of Furret. The fins are Buizel's paws are also similar to a Marshtomp's. The male has two round white marks on its back, while the female has only one.
In the video games
Buizel are one of the many Pokémon species that first appeared in the Nintendo DS games, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Buizel learns a new attack called Aqua Jet, a water-type move, which has the same effects as the normal-type attack Quick Attack, which allows the Pokemon to attack first. Buizel evolves into Floatzel at level 26. Since it is a water Pokemon it is weak against electric attacks.
In the Pokémon anime
Buizel appears in the 9th Pokémon Movie, Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. Its Trainer is Nicholas.
In a promotional image for the upcoming 10th movie, a Buizel is seen with Dawn and company and their Pokémon. It was caught by Dawn, Ash's new traveling partner, in the 500th episode, " Buizel! The Road to Strength!" It appears to look for trainers on purpose in order to show off its strength. Dawn gained its respect after saving it from a harsh fall. It appears to be developing a rivalry with Brock's Croagunk.
In the Trading Card Game
Buizel made an appearance in the Trading Card half-deck promoting the 9th movie.
