University Hospital is a 581 bed tertiary care center located in downtown Augusta, Georgia directly across from the Medical College of Georgia. It was established in 1914, one of the oldest hospitals in Georgia. The name of the hospital came from the close proximity of the Medical College of Georgia as a replacement hospital and has a close affiliation with the college. In 1967, University Hospital was on it's 2 expansion project that included a conoary and intensive care units which open in 1970. Today, the hospital has an important role in Augusta's economy, having a economic impact of $909,351,266. Currently, the hospital is expanding that will include a cardiovascular center that will open in 2009.
