Guts has a number of meanings, both as a regular word and as an acronym:

Vernacular

  • Guts, a common term for the gastrointestinal tract, especially the intestines (by contrast, the singular "gut" usually refers to the stomach or more commonly to the fleshy and fatty belly that covers the lower abdomen).
  • Guts, a colloquialism for courage or (less approvingly) for chutzpah, as in "that took a lot of guts"; adjective form "gutsy", as in "that was a gutsy move"
  • To "spill one's guts", a slang phrase meaning "to reveal information best kept to oneself, such as under interrogation or threat or for monetary reward; to snitch"
