Wikipedia:Requested pictures

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 84.121.3.154 (talk) at 19:49, 3 July 2005. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is a forum for requesting images from other Wikipedians for Wikipedia articles.

Using this page

Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Wikipedia article. Others can then upload the image{s). For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Wikipedia:Village Pump.

See also the specialized page: Picture requests @ Commons

Wikipedia can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Wikipedia:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding {{GFDL}} to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding {{PD-release}} to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add the image request template, {{reqimage}} to the article's page, which would then list the article in Category:Wikipedia requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Wikipedia requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Larger images should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the {{Reqimage}} tag from the article.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Wikipedia:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Wikipedia:List of images.

If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons[1] instead so that all the different Wikipedias can use the image.

  • Children's art for the Child art page. Cat breeds

Dog breeds

For all dog breeds, have a look at http://runeberg.org/nfbk/ (scroll down a bit).

Other Animals

  • Genipa, a plant genus from Central and South America, with an edible fruit (Genipa americana). There seems no photo on the internet that satisfies the Wikipedia copyright restrictions. JoJan 15:20, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Cryptozoology

  • Silver Ring Thing: I need a photo of one of the Silver Rings that are integral to this youth movement. There are photos out there on the 'net that I could go grab, but that would be a copyvio. If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Tea stall - Any enterprising Indian Wikipedian with a digital camera out there? Preferably with benches, the shopkeeper pouring milk/tea from a vessel held as far above as possible from another vessel held in the other hand like this and people reading newspapers (if the photographic details are proper, this would easily become a featured picture, sigh! I don't have a digital camera and I don't know photography). -- Paddu 21:07, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • ndebele art. I'd like a photo of a woman painting her house in those amazing geometric designs. We don't have an article on this yet, so a photo could be used as a starting point, also it would be nice to use it to illustrate a traditional woman's role in the woman article. Theresa Knott (The snott rake) 11:23, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Christmas crackers.
  • Bay to Breakers 04:17, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Gurn. —Josh Lee 03:13, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject_Drugs/Structural_diagrams/Requested and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Drugs/Photographs/Requested for more requests.

  • kegel exerciser. (Doesn't really belong in this section, but there's not really another section for it, so here it is.)
  • bondage hook, images of hooks alone and an in use images
  • smotherbox, piece of erotic furniture
  • Sybian, a toy you can sit on

Everyday objects

  • rayon Some super-close-up photos or maybe even diagrams showing the weave and texture would be great.
  • bridle and picture of a saddle for Horse tack
  • Cartifact could use a picture of an ash tray with a map on it. (Not exactly every day but how hard can it be?).
  • Uranium glass (fluorescent green) and vaseline glass (white), which share an article. These might not be everyday objects to people younger than 70 years...

Beverages

  • Beer. Sorry for the long request, but as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Beer would like to have a nicer picture for our main page, Beer. I am looking for a picture for five different styles of beer in a bar setting, say, a glass of Stout, Bitter, Lager, Hefeweizen, and Helles. Ideally, each glass would be the appropriate one for the beer style. No brand names or logos, so we can put it on Commons. All pictures on Wikipedia seem to only feature one beer. Think of this as a reason to go out and order yourself five beers!! --Sean κ. 19:35, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Pakola Soft drink from Pakistan. RJFJR 20:37, May 15, 2005 (UTC)
  • Taster's Choice

Food

Note: I got permission from the guys at www.vgmuseum.com to use their game pics a while ago, and started doing some of the systems listed here. However, laziness and ADD caused me to never finish. If anyone wants to go ahead and do the rest, be my guest. Lockeownzj00 05:12, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

  • Somebody needs to put more images of NES clones on the Famiclones article. Also, they need to make more articles about these individual NES clones. I played NES as a little kid and I still remember the classic value it had. Also, I want more NES clones to me made in the world. --TheSamurai 02:41, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • There are many mineral pages that would benefit from a picture of the mineral
  • Clay a microphotograph of clay, or better different types of clay.61.114.204.59 05:16, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

For blank maps see Wikipedia:Blank maps. Public domain maps can also be generated at the DEMIS Map Server

  • Some more examples on Wikipedia:Producing_maps_with_xplanet perhaps?
  • I have some old PD images of tidal bores but if anyone has been to Petticodiac recently or the River Severn or even the Amazon and has a better photograph.
  • If anyone could add a map to the Dhahran article that would be great. I couldn't find any accurate maps for that topic.
  • Not exactly sure what would be best for this, but Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere could use some kind of map or illustration. Maybe just several images of the continents in each hemisphere would suffice.
  • A map of the city of Chicago, Illinois showing geographical features, neighborhoods, main streets, etc. Oddly enough, the article doesn't have one.
  • Trail of Tears. The most famous related image is "Trail of Tears", painted by Robert Lindneux in 1942 and found all over the Internet, such as: [2]. The artist died in 1970 ([3]); I don't know if we can use this image, but it would be nice. Another iconic image often associated with the Trail of Tears is the 1915 statue "The End of the Trail" by James Fraser. [4] That would be another nice addition to the article, if a public domain image is available. --Kevin Myers 17:21, Feb 17, 2005 (UTC)
Actually a map should probably be first priority. I'll be looking for a free one.--Pharos 17:30, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Also useful would be a map of the other Native American forced migrations, for the article Indian Removal. --Kevin Myers 03:21, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

  • The Skunk Works is one of the most influential institutions when it comes to modern wartime aircraft. A picture of the building, especially the skunk logo as visible from Sierra Highway, would be a nice addition to the Skunk Works and Plant 42 articles.
  • HMS Juno (F52) - Need a public domain pic' of Juno.
  • Pictures of the devastating effects of wars. I have not found pictures of the destruction of Coventry after World War II bombings, nor of

    • x2 politically-motivated image requests clearly not NPOV. Every war page could show such images, so probably best covered under its own topic. - RJH 15:09, 27 Aug 2004 (UTC). Like here, for example...

    • Some people might take offence/find revolting a picture of a dead person. Enochlau 18:26, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
      • erm the article is about _casualties_ of war. That usually means dead persons. If you actually look at the article there is an image of a dead iraqi soldier right at the top of the article. stib 14:53, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
      • Some people (in Iraq or elswhere) might take offence/find revolting a picture of a dead Iraquian soldier. Ericd 20:20, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • Wikipedia is not censored. Deltabeignet 04:22, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Operation August Storm has been provided with some pictures depicting the Soviet soldiers, and, as it was a Soviet operation, this might be a good idea. However, perhaps at least just one picture showing the Japanese perspective of the invasion might be in order? - Gavin 03:33, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Civil war in Côte d'Ivoire could use a PD map showing rebel and government territoties, like this [6] or this [7] (in french)--nixie 03:45, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Cenepa War could use a map showing the disputed border area between Peru and Ecuador--nixie 01:30, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Better-quality diagrams of tanks in hull-down and turret-down positions, to replace Hull-down tank and Sky-lined tank. There are a few other diagrams and photos out there on the web, but none as good as these. An important feature of first is naturally-sloped ground, rather than artificial-looking stepped slopes or berms like in this diagram. It would be even better if it showed the forward slope a little more, including a sight-line aligned with the crest of ground in front of the tank. Note that an M1 Abrams or Leopard tank has a maximum gun depression of -9°. Double your wikilove if you add a dotted outline of a T-72 or T-64 partly exposed further forward on the slope, with its gun at maximum depression of -5°.Michael Z. 2005-06-24 06:31 Z
  • Photo of a Ukrainian T-84 tank. Michael Z. 2005-06-24 20:05 Z
  • Algerian Civil War could use photos related to the war, as well as maps showing which areas voted FIS and where the main guerrilla concentrations were later. - Mustafaa 00:54, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Places in Asia

  • Krakatoa - current article has a pre-gigantic-explosion drawing. Contrasting it with a current photo from the same angle/viewpoint would be very educational. Tempshill 22:49, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
