Victor Joseph Mignogna (Italian Name: Vittorio Giuseppe Mignogna) (born (August 27) in Greensburg, Pennsylvania) is a prolific American voice actor who has done voice work for dozens of anime series, movies, and video games. Mignogna is best known for his dub role of Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist. Vic has also had the honor of receiving an award for his work in anime. The American Anime Awards presented Vic an award for Best Actor in a lead role for his work in Fullmetal Alchemist/Macross.
Mignogna auditioned for the role of Orochimaru on Naruto, but lost the part to his best friend Steven Blum. The producers originally wanted him to play the part, but Viz Media rejected him. Mignogna also tried out for Bleach, and received the part of Ikkaku.[1][2] He also tried out for the parts of Monkey D. Luffy, the main character of One Piece, and Usopp for the FUNimation dub. Vic has also performed an English version of Byakuya ~True Light~ from D.N.Angel, an English version of Hikari E from One Piece, and an English version of "Brothers" from Fullmetal Alchemist.
Mignogna is also one of the most featured voice-over actors on YouTube with over 1,000 videos featuring him or his songs. Mignogna also appeared on Star Search in 1993, singing a song called "Worth Waiting For". In recent news he has just landed roles in Air, Innocent Venus and Le Chevalier D'Eon.
Fanbase
Vic Mignogna is a celebrity among fans of English anime dubs; his roles as characters such as Dark Mousy, Gawl, Edward Elric, and the evil Broly from the 3 Dragon Ball Z movies, along with his crazy interaction with his fans, have generated a large fanbase. He is a guest at many anime conventions across the United States and Canada.
He has an official fanclub, "Risembool Rangers" http://risemboolrangers.com/ (named after Edward Elric's hometown in Fullmetal Alchemist), with 6,000+ members worldwide, including fellow voice actors Caitlin Glass and Scott McNeil. Scott McNeil joins the Risembool Rangers- YouTube Vic's appreciation for his fans led to the creation of the short film Fullmetal Fantasy where he played Edward Elric.
There is also a friendly rivalry between the Rangers and Travis Willingham's fan club, the Miniskirt Army. When both actors are at a convention together, there is usually a game of dodgeball between the two fan clubs.
Vic Mignogna is also a huge fan of the Star Wars movies and the Star Trek series. He hosts his own fan site.
He has stated in several interviews that he is also a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist, and that voicing the part of Edward Elric was probably the most memorable role in his voice acting career. These statements were made at Fullmetal Alchemist panels at anime conventions.
Vic has also stated that playing Broli from DBZ put a strain on his voice and usually doesn't do any Broli quotes at conventions. A popular fan favorite is the "Short rant" by Edward Elric.
Most recently, Vic has teamed with Steven Blum in making audio clips titled "Real Fans of Genius," which parodies Budweiser's Real Men of Genius radio commercials. These anime-themed clips talk about various stereotypical fans of the anime world. To date, four official recordings have been released, which include "Mr. Anime Cosplayer Guy," "Ms. Yaoi Obsessed Fangirl," "Ms. Bewildered Con Mother," and "Mr. Hallway Sleeper Guy." At Kawaii Kon 2007, Vic and Steve debuted a new live version made exclusively for the convention itself, entitled "Mr. Kawaii Kon Volunteer Worker Guy." He also did a similar, but renamed version for Otakon 2007 entitled "Mr. or Ms. Determined Otakon Attendee."
He is very happy to meet his fans at conventions and gives a lot of time in the autograph line and shows great enthusiasm in his panels telling stories and doing character imitations. He said at the Toronto Anime con recently that he is a huge anime fan since the days of Voltron and Speed Racer.
An accomplished singer, musician, and graphic designer, he has 3 CD's available for purchase at http://risemboolrangers.com/ranger_store.html.
