Bot

There is a talk page that is automatically archived by a bot. It is all archived to Archive 1 but it is getting quite large. How do I change it to archive it to Archive 2? (Which does not exist yet). Earthbendingmaster 17:49, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. I figured it out. Thanks anyway. Earthbendingmaster 21:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats ok. Is it against policies for a user to create a template for their own use, such as one to put on the bottom of their user, talk, and subpages to provide a link to all their pages? Earthbendingmaster 23:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing I didn't know. Thank you. Earthbendingmaster 23:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So I could design it like a template? Earthbendingmaster 03:17, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like I left you a message right in the middle of archiving. I hope I did not disrupt anything. Thank you. Earthbendingmaster 03:21, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does archive 0 really make since to you? Earthbendingmaster 03:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just asking your opinion, Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 03:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to keep bothering you like this. Could you give me the codes for some colors? Like this one:#DEDDE2 Earthbendingmaster 04:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 04:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
After you get to the tenth one, you get tired of pressing colon. I have suggested the merging of an article, with majority support so far. Is there anything else I need to do? Earthbendingmaster 04:28, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am still unexperienced with merging. You leave the article thats being merged as a redirect. Is that correct? Earthbendingmaster 04:38, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Thank you. Earthbendingmaster 04:41, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know you kinda already have, but how would you feel about adopting me? Though if you have already adopted other users just forget I asked if you cannot handle any more. I Truly appreciate the help you have given me. Earthbendingmaster 05:30, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! I truly appreciate that. I am going to bed now, hopefully talk tomorrow, night. Earthbendingmaster 05:38, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have started designing This. Well, I just copied that. But that is how I want it designed. Could you help me? Earthbendingmaster 20:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I am off to the Library right now. Earthbendingmaster 20:38, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted it in the name, thanks anyway. Though if I shouldn't I would be happy to move it. Well, first of all, changing it from being a template as when I change the name of it, there is a link to a template page with the new name. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 00:27, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could you take a look at my user page and give me some suggestions for improvements? Looks better than it did but I still want it to look better. Criticism is welcome. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 01:09, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That does make the name long, so I moved Template:Earthbendingmaster to Navigation. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 01:23, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It seems I keep asking these questions. (My user and archive page). Sorry. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 06:06, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Do you mind if I wait till tomorrow? Earthbendingmaster 06:13, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to give it a try first, though I will need your help after I am done. Earthbendingmaster 22:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How does it look so far? Earthbendingmaster 22:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I am done with it for now. Could you go ahead and take the links in the left hand corner out? Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 23:41, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And if its not to much trouble, could you add a wikipedia floating ball/globe image next to the {{right now}} at the top of my user page? Thank you. Earthbendingmaster 00:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 00:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Did you say you would? Earthbendingmaster 18:52, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks. But I was actually referring to the floating wikipedia ball/globe. Earthbendingmaster 18:57, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats perfectly ok. Thank you. Earthbendingmaster 19:01, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and please do not apologize. You have been more than helpful and kind to me. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 19:05, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I meant to say the bouncing wiki logo. Really was not sure how to describe it before. Thank you. Sorry for changing it like this. Earthbendingmaster 19:31, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I might be able to find it. Earthbendingmaster 20:18, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I found it. But can you change it so it won't run into my userboxes, but still keep it on the right side with the same pixels? Earthbendingmaster 20:36, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Your welcome. I finally got it right, now it doesn't take up as much room on your talk page. Earthbendingmaster 21:44, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am using fire Firefox and the top links do not work, but I can just use the alt, ctrl, shift, etc. combinations to edit, etc., if you cannot find another way. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 21:50, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to use both Twinkle and Friendly at the same time? Thanks. (Note:I will not be back home until around 9:30 or 10:00 Eastern Time. 8:30 or 9:00 Central Time). Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 22:48, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption, again

How does it (my page) look? The "oneten" in that together look (and in ORANGE) doesn't really look that good to me. What do you think? Basketballoneten 03:41, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, the user page too? Basketballoneten 03:49, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay. Oh, and I moved the sig userbox to the sig page. Take a look! Basketballoneten 03:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Really cool! Thanks a bunch! A made a few small changes. Basketballoneten 05:13, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks! Basketballoneten 22:53, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The cat attacked me. See my userpage. Basketballoneten 22:58, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Earthbendingmaster suggests taking off the "edit" button from the filefolders. I sort of agree, because I don't really want to encourage people to edit my page, I'd prefer them to leave me messages on my talk page. Is there a way to take those edit links off the page? Basketballoneten 00:04, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What I was thinking was putting the word "comment" in the small box, and linking it to my talk page. Basketballoneten 00:39, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's okay. It looks great! Basketballoneten 00:49, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You really deserved it. Basketballoneten 01:07, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One of the cats got out of its cage, and I can't put it back in. Basketballoneten 01:22, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Where is the list of all the codes for colors? Basketballoneten 02:39, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and by the way, is it just me, or can no one edit your talk page? Maybe it's just my computer. Thanks, again, Basketballoneten 15:24, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The edge of the page is cut off, and I can't see the edit button for this section. Basketballoneten 22:57, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get a user blocked? See for your self here. Basketballoneten 00:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Jauerdude thinks that he got the "hint". But we'll see. Basketballoneten 00:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get a box for my talk page archive, which is now just a link? Basketballoneten 17:25, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Basketballoneten 17:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My computer logs me out while I'm editing. Any idea why? It gets rather annoying. Basketballoneten 00:00, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so. Basketballoneten 00:43, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Someone vandalised my watchlist (I know it sounds strange, but I did not add "Romanians sitting in a recliner eating Black Peppers over an Encyclopedia Britanica"). How do I find out who? Basketballoneten 01:31, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Doesn't an administrator have to give the OK for a large page to be moved? Basketballoneten 01:40, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Basketballoneten 01:49, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think something is wrong with my signature. See for yourself. Basketballone10 02:05, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no it isn't. Just on my sig page. It is in italics on my sig page, and I really don't want it to be. Basketballone10 02:06, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it. What is the code or whatever for the little check the the "Done!" sign? Basketballone10 02:12, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I need a table for User:Basketball110/Quotes. Basketballone10 01:13, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's the one. And a standard table, like the ones used in the "List of tallest buildings in WikiLand" type articles. Basketballone10 01:23, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Basketballone10 01:41, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get the vandal counter in the "Welcome!" box (correctly, and without seriously injuring my page)? Basketballone10 03:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This:
This userpage has
been vandalized
3
times.

If you're going to vandalize my
page, please update the counter.

My RfA

Thanks for your support at my request for adminship, which passed today with 42/0/0!

I would like to thank Wizardman for nominating me, [[User:Master of Puppets|Master of Puppets]] and everyone else for their support and comments. I'll continue with contributing to the encyclopedia's content (hopefully writing an FA here and there :) and will help out with admin-related tasks which you just entrusted me with. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks again, —dima/talk/ 01:51, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting AFD's

Hello, thanks for recently helping clear the backlog at AFD by relisting 2 AFD's: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Talbert W. Swan, II, and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Containerart. In the future, please complete the process, by commenting-out the entry on the original log page and retranscluding the discussion on the current log page. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, JERRY talk contribs 05:15, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I replied at my talk. JERRY talk contribs 05:28, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a thank you note

Thanks for participating in my RfA!
Although it failed 43/27/0, I'm happy because the outcome has been very helpful in many meaningful ways. Your support and remarks contributed so much to this. If you followed my RfA you know what happened. Most of the editors who posted opposing opinions have never edited with me. Some articles I edit deal with controversial topics and with respect to a very few of these, editors who didn't know much about me had some worries about confrontational editing and civility. Since I support their high standards I can easily (and will gladly) address this. The support and ecouragement to run again soon has been wonderful, thanks again. Cheers! Help Me: User Watch List

{{helpme}}

Is there any limit as to how far back I can go and view changes / edits made to articles on my Watch List? I see that the "My Preferences" settings has a max of 1,000 (I think?) for the WatchList tab under My Preferences. Is that it --- I can only see the last 1,000 changes and no more? Or is there a way to view the 1,001st (etc.) and further back changes? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:48, 27 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Hmmm, mine lets me see the last 1559 by default. However, if you click the "all" button next to the "show" row, it should display all the pages you have on the watchlist. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 20:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, the part you may want to click is in bold (Watch out though, it'll cause your browser to lag):
Below are the last 1,561 changes, as of 20:54, 27 January 2008.
Show last 1 | 2 | 6 | 12 hours 1 | 3 | 7 days all
Show bot edits | Hide my edits | Hide minor edits
Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 20:55, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But, isn't the "all" simply my 1,000 max? Please reply at my Talk Page. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:16, 28 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]
My settings are: Max number of days to show in watchlist: 3, and max number of changes to allow: 250. I don't think there's a max on how many pages you can have in your watchlist; every page that you watch should get in without a problem. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 00:20, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My settings say this. Maximum number of days to show in watchlist: 7 ... and ... Maximum number of changes to show in expanded watchlist: 1000. So, I am assuming that the number of 1,000 is the most (max) number of changes that they can show and that I can see. (In my case, 1000 ... in your case, 250.) I am not asking about the max number of pages that I can have on my Watch List. That is a wholly separate issue. Let me know. Thanks. Please reply at My Talk Page. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:24, 28 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Well, the max number of changes you're able to see should be all of the pages on your list, I think. I'm not sure what the max value is in preferences, though. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 00:29, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks for your help. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:45, 28 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Re: Frei

Yeah, freedom, free content, that sort of thing. Even though Wikipedia is free as in no cost to use, my understanding is that 'free' in 'the free encyclopedia' refers primarily to free content. Raven4x4x (talk) 05:02, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello :)

Hey, could you do me a favor and take a look at the navbox here? I just want to know if there's any other info I could put in there. Thanks! Midorihana~いいですね? 06:26, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :) Most people do refer to the organization as FIRST; I didn't know what it stood for until much later. Oh well, more informational. (On a side note, I didn't know what the v d e links ever did until you pointed them out to me :O ) Happy editing, Midorihana~いいですね? 06:56, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PS, the edit links on your talk page seem to have disappeared and the text looks cut off; can you fix it? (Then again, it might just be IE) Thanks! Midorihana~いいですね? 06:56, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

KColorEdit

KColorEdit is a part of Extragear package software, although extragear don't have the same schedule release of KDE package it a important piece of the KDE project. This little application is a utility to create and edit palettes (it works with KDE palettes and GNOME too), there's not a similar software in KDE, so many people use it with GIMP and other utility like Krita to edit and create their own images, I think this application could be help this people, that's why I had to work on this article.

Also, Could you notify me about another KDE tool that can manage this kind of topics KDE and Colors?

Please don't underestimate this tool, all the software have their own complexity and function, not because isn't a famous name means that isn't a help.

Problem with warning templates

When we revert vandalism by someone who already received a level 4 warning, any other warnings make it seem like, "Oh, we didn't really mean it when we said that was your last warning," like the parent who says, "This is the last time I'm going to tell you" five times before taking action. What about something like this:[1]. I'd like some feedback on this as a possible template for non-admins to use when they revert past a level 4 warning. Thanks. Doczilla (talk) 10:16, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. You definitely gave me some things to think about. Of the handful of AIV-experienced people I checked with, I got 4 yeas and 3 nays -- a majority favoring it but certainly not a consensus. Of course, something like this doesn't have to appeal to everybody. I guess I'll run this by people who check the talk page for the Wikipedia:WikiProject user warnings. Thanks again. Doczilla (talk) 03:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
WPT:AIV is a good thought. And yeah, you've definitely got some good points. I see where it would be completely redundant if AIV consistently worked as smoothly and quickly as possible and nobody was out there posting warnings after a level 4 warning. I'm just trying to think of some alternative and was interested in objective feedback. That's why I contacted AIV-experienced users who weren't in my usual circle of Wiki-buddies. Best, Doczilla (talk) 03:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By WPT:AIV, I assume you mean Wikipedia talk:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Doczilla (talk) 03:38, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did close it at 00:06 - you can see the close immediately before the vote. The times are the same, and as closing doesn't affect the support section, I suspect there was no edit conflict. I've got no great objection to reinstating the vote while indenting it with an appropriate comment, although I believe that in the past, late votes have always simply been reverted. Warofdreams talk 00:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe that there is a policy on it, and I wasn't aware of your case. I really don't mind either way; if you, or anyone else, would like to reinstate the vote as you have suggested, that's fine with me :) Warofdreams talk 00:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you tell me a little about the WikiProject IRC collaboration? I have only used IRC once, though. Earthbendingmaster 15:32, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I might, I should join at the project page first? Using the web-based Java powered version doesn't change anything does it? I installed Twinkle, very helpful. Earthbendingmaster 22:35, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be gone for a little while, but you can go ahead and reply. Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 22:51, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thats ok. Helping users is good. Sorry about my response time. I hope you do not mind me cutting and pasting this section, just seems easier to go straight to the bottom of the page? Thanks. I am still unexperienced with IRC, as I have only used it once, I am going to read some more about it. Do you mind if I ask you some more questions? They might sound stupid, though. Earthbendingmaster 03:21, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. It's not so much whether the edits are controversial, it's that some people turn them off entirely on their watchlist. So any comments you make on a talk page won't come up on their watchlist. One Night In Hackney303 05:49, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The page was deleted, I was asked to change my signature, and all is well. Would you have the knowledge of how to make a userbox? I started to read the section at WP:UBX, then I looked at the code, and couldn't figure out where the colors where. Basketballone10 03:01, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How can I make a small link on my signature that says "What pages I've totally messed up helped on in Wikipedia," that is small, and not at the level of the rest of my signature? Basketballone10 23:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This user changes his or her signature too much.

Am I free to just use it on my page, and then put it on the userbox page? Or is there more (a catch would probably be there right word)? Basketballone10 02:51, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sort of turning my sig into a joke now, because I accidential left the box unchecked. How is it? Should I check the box? It says, when I go to save it (sig) with the box checked, it says it can't because of a HTML. Oh. Sorry if that was unclear. I meant that because I have never nominated a canidate before, I didn't want to nominate you, as I was afraid the nomination would not as strong as one offered by someone with experience in giving them. Further, I would say Majorly probably has more clout than me with the community. At any rate, I will clarify that over at the RfA. Warm regards, SorryGuy  Talk  19:36, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Infobox former country

Thanks for finally helping me. Just so you know, I do know how to use these templates properly. The problems I have are:

  • I can't include a second flag (two colonizers, two flags for one territory) in the template instead of the coat of arms.
  • I can't get the empire variable to register two colonizing countries instead of just one.
  • How do I get the government_type variable to link to Condominium (international law) instead of just Condominium without having the "(international law)" bit displayed on the finished template - the standard way of doing this doesn't seem to be recognized.
  • It doesn't recognize a territory being a colony of two countries - if you enter colony (which was what it was) into the status variable, you get "Colony of (name)." I want the page categorized properly, but not the text on the template to go with it.

RE:

Thanks for the note. What can I do about a user who refuses to discuss large content changes? Who do I speak to? I've asked him to please consulte other editors before making his huge changes, and he declines to do so. He's tagging things claiming they are empty, when they still have two subcats. He asserts they have been empty for 4 days, when in reality, he just made his change 24 hours ago. Depopulating well supported categories isn't considered Vandalism? Thank you very much. Sorry for going through the wrong channels.Benkenobi18 (talk) 07:40, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He's a fine editor. His original response, the first time that he did this, was "nothing that implies the existance of the legal fiction of Great Britain should be permitted to stay up." That was his justification for deleting the category the first time. I restored it and I quoted it, he just deleted the category again, so I don't know if his original comment is still available or not. Benkenobi18 (talk) 07:55, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, found it on the google cache.
Seeing as this category was deleted once, I'd like it to stay. I understand that the folk who like scotland would rather not have a joined one, but honestly, I find it much easier to find all the diocese articles like this. This category was emptied once, if someone has a problem with this category, I'd like them to please discuss it with me on the talk page. Benkenobi18 (talk) 01:42, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Great Britain is neither 1) a state nor 2) a meaningful division in the Catholic church. The existence of the category serves no purpose other than to perpetuate and propagate the confusion of its author. It has nothing to do with nationalism either (always a favourite accusation to throw around), as I'd have no problem with Category:Roman Catholic dioceses in the United Kingdom (though it should not be a supercat, as it is state descriptive category not an RC division), but Great Britain is pointless unless one opens a new supercat Roman Catholic dioceses by island. RE:

I don't know how to get this user to stop. Almost everything he says in defense of his creations is either inaccurate or or irrelevant. He reverts my reversions of him and goes running around accusing me of vandalism. Oh my, I even created four articles just to appease the guy when he decided all by himself that the historical and modern catholic Scottish dioceses with the same name should be split, and then he came to my talk page complaining of all the work I'd given him by reverting him on other articles he'd been altering. He's already been told his edits aren't acceptable by other users, one of whom is also reverting him ... he's just not being reverted generally by anyone but me. If you open the discussion up ... and I've seen no reason to go to that effort for a misguided lone user ... you'll almost certainly find that everyone will oppose his edits. I think the guy needs some serious coaching about how wikipedia works, but atm my internet connection is very unreliable and I have other things to do. You'll see on his talk page though why his edits are simply wrong; he's forwarding a category and template that looks official, but isn't; doubling up two templates, supercategorizing, and placing a non-existent category between two real ones. Doubtless he's gonna go around so many admins accusing me of vandalism that, knowing my luck, after I get back from my connection cutting (as it surely will shortly), I'll probably see a block or warning from someone for vandalism, 3rr or edit warring. Bah! Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 21:43, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Smile

You can put it back the same way it was before, I just did not know how to do it after my user page was restored, as it was restored to a version before I put up any personal information, therefore before the bouncy logo. Your welcome. Just a warning, if you decide to you it, it can get annoying if you have a lot of pages in your watchlist, as you are getting a lot of alerts. Vandalism

Please tell me then the proper place to report the racist vandalism such as I was reporting. The stuff they are inserting is nonfactual not to mention completely biased and hopelessly in violation of the NPOV standard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 1948remembered (talkcontribs) 23:32, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have little hope of finding an "open mind", most have openly racist listings (like notations on "israeli apartheid" or support for terrorist genocide groups) on their pages.

Also FYI, something in your page format here is messed up, I can see no "edit this" listing and my text appears to scroll past the scrollable side of the page. I do not know what is causing it but I had to click "edit this page" and scroll all the way down to put this response here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 1948remembered (talkcontribs) 23:46, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message

Please reconsider. I think you need to look more closely at the edit history, where 1948remembered has been mass blanking material (*) [2] and repeatedly reverting others' edits, including personally insulting edit summaries [3]. Note that he was also correctly caught by ClueBot, which first drew my attention to his repeated vandalism. If nothing else, he is certainly in violation of 3RR. Repeated blanking by 1948remembered

Hi there Master of Puppets,

1948remembered (talk · contribs) has engaged in repeated blanking, despite warnings from myself another user that he could be blocked from editing for WP:DE and vandalism. His last deletion came after you advised him to use the talk page, where all he did was make a personal attack against me [4]. Please do check out his contribs and his talk page again. Tiamuttalk 23:57, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re 1948remembered

It's not a content issue. He was blanking 13,000+ bytes over and over again despite warnings and without discussion. Once it was blanked, he went about changing the first sentence to refer to "geneocidal" and "armies of Islam" type blabber. I'm sorry, but this is not a content dispute. It's pure vandalism. Some advice, from AGK

Congratulations on your recent acquisition of the mop. I offer to you a few words of wisdom:

  • Start slowly and carefully. There's a huge temptation to start flying through your new duties as soon as the 'crat pushes the button - resist it. Avoid close calls for your first week or two, and leave it to those who happened to get their tools a little earlier than you.
  • Be sure to connect in with other users on IRC, if you can. There's a whole pool of channels there where you can get assistance in your newly-acquired buttons, and get your new colleagues used to your name.
  • Be ready for criticism in your first few weeks, but at the same time don't be a push-over. If you feel worried over a decision, get another user to take a look at it.
  • When blocking, ask yourself if everything you've entered into that form will benefit Wikipedia: is the block length sufficiently long to prevent further disruption by a vandal, or is it so long that it will put them off ever returning? Is your protection just going to be a minor hiccup in the edit warrior's grand scheme of disruption, or will it hinder the growth of the encyclopedia?

Best of luck with your new buttons, and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.

Start topic

Just a note on the article Start topic. I thought it was pretty clear the person was trying to write about the Tower of Terror ride at Disneyworld [5], so I declined the speedy. After I declined it, you deleted the article as I was checking for the existence of a properly titled article (which is here). If another admin has already declined the speedy (which you'll see if you check the history before deleting), it's usually best to drop them a quick note if you disagree. No harm done in this case, as I would have deleted it as an unlikely redirect -- just want to give you a friendly heads up before a serious clash happens. :) --Fabrictramp (talk) 20:52, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Master of Puppets, thanks for your email. I was pretty concerned about this edit, which apart from removing most of the talk page is a clear personal attack on another editor. The IP address may be dynamic - the whois information is not clear. If you want to unblock it, I won't object. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that this is a somewhat experienced user given they know how to create a fake signature, and I don't expect to see productive editing from them if they are unblocked. Even dynamic IPs usually have long-ish cycle times, usually in excess of 24 hours. Best, Gwernol 23:12, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
