Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:U2BONO.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. As we have plenty of free images for Bono we don't need any copyrighted images which the one you uploaded likely is. If you prefer one of the other free images you can put one of those at the top instead. Arniep 18:49, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, we have plenty of free images for Bono so we have no fair use claim for any copyrighted images, see WP:FU. Regards Arniep 19:39, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a matter of liking the image it's that (i) Wikipedia's goal is to be as free as possible and (ii) fair use law states in the absence of a free alternative. We have many free alternatives so it's a violation of fair use law. Arniep 00:35, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I admit he looks a little pale, but we still can't use any copyrighted images due to fair use law stating "in the absence of a free alternative". You are free to remove the top image and replace it with any other free image in commons:Category:U2 Regards Arniep 00:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Koolgiy! You've got some fair-use (copyright) images on your user page. Any that are not used in an article are being deleted. You're going to have some red links on your user page, I'm afraid. But then, we're not allowed to put copyright/fair-use images on our user pages anyway... ➨ REDVERS 20:58, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fix

Nathanrdotcom is you see this, I tried to fix the problem using a previous edit I did a while ago. Koolgiy

You want to be careful when creating internal (wikipedia) links.

For example: to link to someone's userpage, it's [[User:username here|Username]]. Everything before the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ should be dropped and only one pipe symbol (instead of two) should be used.

Also, please sign your comments with ~~~~. — Nathan (talk) 18:28, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Central pic

I'm not sure if you would be willing to remove it, but the copyright thing in the upper left hand corner kind of bothers me. If you aren't willing to remove it, I will probably just take the picture myself sometime.

Thanks for adding that though, I will admit the other picture was a little lacking. ekrub-ntyh talk 02:17, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How does it bother you? If you want I'll put the original on and put it on without the Matthew Trevithick thing at the top. I only did that because im a photographer, and i'm trying to get my work out there. Koolgiy
P.S. Whats your name, you go to Central as I do. I might see you in school.
P.P.S Tell your friends about my photography. Check out my site (matthewtrevithick.tripod.com). Theres a link on my wiki page that you can click to go there.

License tagging for Image:ChryslerBuildingNYC.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ChryslerBuildingNYC.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:05, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Jennifer Aniston

You said: "I don't know if you have a problem with deleting photos, because alot of the topics in here are about photos, but if (promophoto) isn't a good enough liscensing tag, then what is? Does Wikipedia have to be such a tight ass dealing with pictures, that any picture that isnt uploaded correctly should be deleted? I mean seriously. Wikipedia has lost a great number of liscencing tags when you upload an image, which makes it harder and harder to find one to use. So if you can find a good enough tag, to use for the Jennifer Aniston image I uploaded, so people could see what she looked like, i'd really like to hear some feedback."

I'm sorry, I'm not sure which image you are referring to. {{Promophoto}} is a perfectly fine tag provided that the copyright holder is identified, provided evidence is given showing that the image came from a promotional kit or otherwise was specifically released for promotion, and provided a detailed fair-use rationale is listed for every use of the image in a Wikipedia article. Most of this is explained in the subst'ed license text itself. One problem is that people (though not necessarily you) often just use that tag for images that were not released for promotion, or fail to include a detailed fair-use rationale for their use. --Yamla 01:14, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You said: "Ok if thats not a good tag, and I don't think that was from a promo kit, (It was froma photo shoot, unfortunatley there isn't a tag for photo shoots) then I dont know what tag will work. If you can find one put it on."
Well, if the photo shoot was released for promotional purposes, it would be an appropriate tag. If it wasn't released for promotional purposes, the tag wouldn't be appropriate. In fact, probably no tag would be appropriate as we couldn't use the copyrighted image under fair-use. Wikipedia cannot just use copyrighted images. In fact, we should be using far fewer than we are. In general, it is a violation of copyright to use someone else's copyrighted image. Still, if you let me know which image we are talking about, I'll take a look. --Yamla 01:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfree vs free images

The short answer is that Wikipedia is a project to give away a free, reusable encyclopedia. We always prefer content that is licensed under a free, reusable license, such as the GFDL. Image:The Edge Sundance 2006.jpg is not a great shot, but it is licensed so that anyone can use it for any purpose. It would be great to get a better image that is freely licensed. If you are a member of U2 mailing lists or forums, you can help by asking fans to donate images that they have taken. See Wikipedia:Boilerplate requests for permission for some forms to be used. If you have practice with using image editing software, see commons:Category:U2 for images that you might be able to improve. Everything there can be modified; you might find an image that could be transformed into a better image to illustrate our U2 articles. I hope that explains things. Unspecified source for Image:YellowCornChips2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:YellowCornChips2.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Hi Koolgiy,

Whenever you are not logged on to Wikipedia, you are automatically represented by your IP address. These are often shared by more than one person, and you will sometimes receive messages intended for someone else. Don't worry, you won't get in trouble for vandalism that you didn't do. 192.168.2.10 is your IP address on your local area network. The IP address that represents you to the outside world however is 69.159.61.49. Other computers on your LAN are also represented by this IP address, and the vandalism is probably coming from one of those. Unfortunately, you receive these warnings too. As long as you remain logged in to User:Koolgiy, you will not receive these messages. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hi, I just noticed you replaced the 2000 Census population figure w/ another 2006 estimate. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. License tagging for Image:TheKillersBig.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:TheKillersBig.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated.

00:11, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:TheKillersBig.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:TheKillersBig.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Orphaned fair use image (Image:BikiniBottom.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:BikiniBottom.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ~ BigrTex 19:30, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:1023BOBFM.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1023BOBFM.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Unspecified source for Image:1023BOBFM.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1023BOBFM.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Non-free use disputed for Image:REDVINESLOGO.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:REDVINESLOGO.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Specifically, I have deleted your image from Tank Man because an alternative nearly identical image is avaiable which we have permission to use on WP. Therefore, your image fails the necessary test to claim fair use that "no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information". I have created a talk page entry[1] on the tank man article to discuss this if you disagree. Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 18:34, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
