NYK Vega is one of the largest container ships of the world. The vessel has a capacity of 8,600 containers in company calculations and 9,012 TEU in IMO calculations. The difference is comming from diferent method of stowing in checking of ship's stability. But in spite of everything the ship is one of the most modern and most beautiful engineer outfits built ever. NYK Vega is one of the pearls in the crown of Nippon Yusen Shipmanagement. But this were only simple words about the vessel and we can just leave them and continue wil ship's facts about NYK Vega.

Ship's Facts

The vessel NYK Vega was built in 2006 in the ship-yard of Hyundai Heavy Industries. The container ship is one of the largest and most modern container carriers of the world shipping. NYK Vega has length of 338.20 meters a width of 44 meters and draft while fully loaded of 14.50 meters. The vessel shines with many stars on the sky of NYK Line and I think that this is one of the best sailing container ships built ever. The deadweightof NYK Vega is about 94,000 metric tons and the Gross Tonnage of the ship is 97,825 metric tons. With these measurements the ship has a capacity for 9,012 TEU according to calculations of IMO and 8,600 TEU according to NYK Line calculations. And I think this is important for the PR of the company. The maximum speed of NYK Vega is 25 knots and the cruising one is 24.6 knots. This is pretty high speed for such large vessel and this is the one she needs. So important is to tell that the main engine of NYK Vega is MAN B&W 12K98MC with a power of 87,060 hp. Анд NYK Vega needs of all the power almost all the time of sailing, because traditions of NYK Lines ships are to reach the exact place at exact time. And the officers of NYK Lines know that and try to do everything for perfecly completing timetable. I almost filled all important information about the ship. I just can add that ship is sailing under the flag of Panama, due to lower restrictions in cargo, equippment and lower taxes about the ship. This doesn't mean that the company is bad, because the vessels of NYK Lines are ceritifed by Lloyd Register by all indexes.

Bridge Equipment

You can see the modern vessel and to understand much about building of this ship just from the first sight but the bridge is the place where you will dfind the all modern equipment and understand that all designers and engineers had put all their thoughts in one building one very profitable vessel. The bridge of NYK Vega has two electronical charts which are working independently and this is enough requirement from IMO to use this method of fixing ship's possition. Into the electronic chart system is integrated GPS, dGPS, AIS and ARPA. This is making the maneuvering and calculating ship's possition very easy. The GPS is giving good accuracy about ship's possition and the mistake is less than 100 meters. But for entering in ports and sailing in some regions, for example Iraq, the mistake is larger of about 2 n.mi. which is not good for the officers and sometimes the ship may be plotted on the ground. So the dGPS solves this problem, because together with satelites the dGPS is calculating possition with one shore point. That is making the mistake less than 10 meters near the shore and about 15 meters in the open sea. This is very useful for the officers on the bridge because the lowest need values of the mistake is about 50 meters near the shore. The work of the NYK Vega is decreased by system installed on ship's computers. This system allows easier arangement of the cargo and containers, which is very good for the Chief Officer responsible for cargo plans. In all cases the vessel NYK Vega is one of the most modern and very comfortable ships. I think that this is one of the engineers wonders of 20th century.
