"That Song in My Head"
Song

"That Song in My Head" is the debut single of American country music singer and professional dancer Julianne Hough. The song was released March 3, 2008 on Mercury Nashville Records as her official debut single, and the first single from her self-titled debut album. It has reached Top 20 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

Song information

"That Song in My Head" was co-written by Jim Collins, Wendell Mobley, and Tony Martin. Hough originally was a two-time winner of the popular ABC television show, Dancing with the Stars and was one of the professional dancers. [1] The song itself is an up-tempo, telling about Hough searching for the song that she heard while dancing with a male lover.

"You were hanging your feet off the tailgate of Billy Don's Ford
I grew up in this little bitty town, never seen you before
You were swaying in the moonlight while the radio played
And I've had that song in my head all day"

Critical reception

The single was overall met with positive reviews from websites. Country music Central.com called the song "very sneaky and very well done debut." Billboard said that the song was "marked by a sweet tone and warm texture. [1] Slant magazine called the single to have "enthusiasm and charm". [2]

Music video

The video takes place in two scenes, a beach party at night and a pier during daytime (Pismo Beach CA). The music video starts off with Hough on a boat with radio, remembering past memories. The video then goes back to a couple of days before when Hough was at a nighttime beach party, standing beside the truck from where her lover was dancing from, and dancing to the song on the radio. The video then goes to pier, showing Hough walking down the pier with a portable radio, watching the events that go on in the pier, including palm reading and a man breakdancing. The video regularly goes through both scenes throughout the course of the video. It then ends with Hough finding her lover at the end of the day beside the beach with the same truck. The two then kiss and soon after, the music video ends.

Chart performance

"That Song in My Head" debuted at #51 on the Billboard Country Chart March 5, 2008, after being released to Country radio March 3. The song reached the Top 40 in its third week on that chart. The song soon reached the Top 20 after being on the charts for over 20 weeks. It then debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #88 the same week. [3]
