purionline

Hey dude, I am adding purionline.com to the orissa page because there are some informations which are required for Orissa and which can be collected from Purionline.com, but i dont understand what makes you delete the links every time???/

well let me explain you something about the website, it has all these phase related to Orissa Oriya Entertainment http//www.purionline.com/entertainment Orissa News http://news.purionline.com (which the site is even going launch a Live video news on Orissa too) Orissa Classmate service over here http://www.purionline.com/classmates Orissa Chat service http://www.purionline.com/chat and also recently planning up to start the Orissa Wikipedia too over here http://orissawiki.purionline.com

But I dont understand what makes you delete only the purionline.com links when there are other links available at the topic.

Dont you think these all links are important for orissa or for the viewers of Orissa

and for your information its the users who make purionline.com as the most visited website of Orissa over here http://www.alexa.com/browse?&CategoryID=53736 and its only you, who is not interested on the website, but I dont find any reason.

First of all, I NEVER deleted your purionline link - I merely said that I would later on. I think that you got it confused with someone else.
Second, I do not think it is appropriate in an encyclopedia entry. If you want a third party opinion, or go to the administration, I am sure, the decision will be to delete it. Orissa news, or classmate service does NOT provide encyclopedia level information about Orissa.
But since you created an entire article on Purionline which was deleted later on by someone, for which you were delivered a warning, I am assuming you have personal interests in the purionline link.
Third, you added other links that were not in the correct format, making the article look worse than it already is. Which is why I reverted it. In any case, all the junk will be removed by me from the Orissa article whenever I have the time to work on it.
Fourth, please do sign your message in the talk page. Just four tildes would suffice.
{PS: Since you left an identical message in my talk pages, I'm assuming the "Hey Dude" is addressed to me.)

Moving material

A lot of material has to be moved to the relevant sub or relevant pages like life and culture. Cities etc.

Agreed. I did move some of the junk into other places, creating a few new articles in the process, that need to be wikified. I will try to improve this article gradually.
THe huge number of "contributors" who do nothing else but add spam pertaining to their college or district etc., must somehow be controlled. I suggest not to hesitate to warn such spammers right away. SDas 06:08, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This person had added to the section on education:

"The New Life Education Trust with its headquarters located at Matrubhaban[1], Sri Aurobindo Marg, Cuttack, oversees a chain of 429 Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centres in the state. Most of these secondary schools are in rural areas set up with local initiative. Babaji Sri Ramakrishna Das and Prapatti, Kangali Charan Pati were the dominant inspiration. "

We are not talking about religious jumbo-mumbo but genuine centers of higher learning such as universities. To go to the extent of adding an entire paragraph on some obscure "New Life Education Trust" is beyond ridiculous!

Notable Schools

Ths list is getting ridiculous. What makes one school "notable" and another not? The absence of any criteria will cause the list to grow and grow. I suggest that that section be deleted.

Edits by Visnu

I had to modify Visnu's edits. The word "scheduled tribes" has been replaced with an internationally recognizable word "indigenous people", as well as the local/historical word for it ("Adivasi") which has the same meaning. Please refrain from using words that are intelligible to those aware of Indian constitutional jargon only. Besides, the word "tribe" has a negative connotation in international circles.

Furthermore, the laments about environmental degradation have been toned down a little bit. While environmental concerns are good, it is good to present both sides of the state's industrialization and to follow a manner similar to what the mainstream media usually reports!

Previous edits

The "Hi-Tec" medical school was highlighted for advertisement only. I removed that. Please refrain from highlighting some items just for promoting your own institution.

I did some major changes. There were numerous typographic errors and portions of the article were written in terrible English. The reference to "Lord" Jagganatha obviously written by a devotee was inappropriate for a non-religious encyclopedia.

I'm doing a little cleaning up in this article. I've removed some random links to various corporations; they don't tell much about the state. I also removed this section:

Maa Charchika's Mandir is situated on Ruchika parbat near the Renuka river.
It is considered as one of the most beautiful places of Orissa, where religion and nature intermix with each. It is situated in a place called Banki which is 52KMs away from Orissa's business capital Cuttack and 60 km from political capital Bhubaneswar. Another important picnic spot is Sunadei temple on the bank of river Mahanadi. During winter season many migratory birds visit mahanadi - which is in its largest width near the Sunadei Temple.

I can't find any mention of this online except in Wikipedia mirrors; a couple of detailed travel guidebooks don't mention it either. If it is indeed notable, maybe it's better in a separate article. CDC (talk) 04:08, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are so many important people in a state like Orissa - living or dead. The list should be commensurate and proportionate. Who can sit Ramchandra Rath in the class with others listed. Though Mr Rath was known during his youth days. Similarly in the class of colleges SCS college was added. sum

His/her only edits (other than some clear vandalism of Open Directory Project) are to this category and cities therein (Puri and Bhubaneswar)), adding references to a specific web site. I don't know enough about the area to tell if they're also vandalism. Arthur Rubin | (talk) 15:22, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orissadiary and other linkfarmage

Please do not use wikipedia as a linkfarm, e.g. to orissadiary.com. --Improv 21:17, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would hate to need to do so, but I am considering semi-protecting this page for a time to see if I can get the linkfarmers to go away. Does anyone have thoughts on this? They seem completely unwilling/unable to leave comments or discuss their edits. --Improv 18:00, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have semiprotected the page for 48 hours. --Improv 06:36, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody add information about Rourkela Steel Plant to this article? It is quite famous in India, so the state in which it is in should have some information about it. —vedant (talkcontribs) 09:30, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Implications of "still spoken" (re indigenous languages)

I'm wondering what the implications (intended or not) are of saying that languages are "still spoken" by a people. This turn of phrase seems either to carry an expectation that the state of affairs described is or should be impermanent, or to describe a situation where one might have expected otherwise (e.g., when an effort is made to wipe out a language but it is still spoken anyway). This is only to suggest that in most general contexts it is not necessary to say "still" spoken. So, in the Culture section a sentence where this was used might be revised thus: "A few tribal languages belonging to the Dravidian and Munda language families are still spoken by the Adivasis (original inhabitants) of the state." Or else the context could be explained more fully (such as popular culture, government and education emphasizing majority languages, etc.?) --A12n 00:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Schools, Universities, Colleges et al

The list of institutes was becoming cumbersome, and also the focus of numerous edits. I have created a new list and put in a See Also in the Education section of this article. Seems to be the general practice on other similar articles pages anyway. Sdsouza 12:24, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the following. It describes something which is not built yet and that too in hyperbole. seems inappropriate

    • Orissa is home to many colleges and universities, deemed and otherwise. India's first and only world class multidisciplinary university, Vedanta University will be built along the lines of major educational institutions of the world, such as Stanford and Harvard at the cost of US $3 billion.[citation needed] It will have 100,000 students and employ 20,000 faculty members, making it one of the largest universities in the world.

List of Districts

Dear friends, is it really requird to add list of districts. it's already available in the link at the top right block. which is the most general format for all states. someone has added "Kalapathar" as one of the districts of orissa, which should be deleted.

Fair use rationale for Image:OrissaSeal.gif

Image:OrissaSeal.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
